Abstract:In Co(S1-xSex)2 system, a transition from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic state occurs near x = 0.11. In order to research the physical properties of the samples near this transition, polycrystalline samples of Co(S1-xSex)2 (0.0≤x≤0.16) were prepared. And their structure and resistivity were measured. It is found that the ferromagnetic transition temperature TC is suppressed by Se doping in the relation TC～(1-x)1/2. And the ferromagnetic phase transition goes from the second to the first order. The temperature dependence of resistivity, ρ(T), shows a Fermi-liquid behavior, ρ(T)=ρ0+AT2, in Co(S1-xSex)2 (xρ(T) occurs in the samples near a critical concentration x=0.11. It is suggested that the phase transition near x=0.11 is a quantum phase transition, and the quantum critical spin fluctuation at zero temperature results in non-Fermi liquid behavior.

Abstract:We report the synthesis and electrical resistivity of Zr (Cu, Fe)Se2-delta single crystals with layered hexagonal structure (space group P-3M1, No. 164). Se vacancies are found existed in all pristine samples. Adding Fe into the raw materials results in substitution of Zr and the lattice parameters are found almost unaffected while that with Cu results in intercalation of the van der Waals gap and the lattice parameters are expanded essentially. All compounds display semiconducting behavior, i.e. negative temperature dependence, and the activation energy (Delta) estimated from thermal activation model are in the range of 50-200 meV. We also observe spin-glass-like behavior in the Fe-containing samples.

We present the results of structural and magnetic phase comparisons of the iron oxychalcogenides La2O2Fe2OM2(M=S,Se). Elastic neutron scattering reveals that M=S and Se have similar nuclear structures at room and low temperatures. Our neutron diffraction data reveals that both materials obtain antiferromagnetic ordering at a Neel temperature TN90.1±0.16 K and 107.2±0.06 K for M=Se and S, respectively. The magnetic arrangements for both M=S, Se compounds are obtained through Rietveld refinement. We find the order parameter exponent β to be 0.129±0.006 for M=Se and 0.133±0.007 for M=S. Each of these values is near the Ising symmetry value of 1/8. This suggests that although lattice and electronic structural modifications result from chalcogen replacement, the nature of the magnetic interactions is similar in these materials.

Abstract:A new series of sulfur-substituted iron-oxychalcogenides Nd{sub 2}Fe{sub 2}Se{sub 2−x}S{sub x}O{sub 3} (0≤x≤0.4) was synthesized by solid state reaction method, and investigated by structure, transport, magnetic and specific heat measurements. The compounds crystallize in the layered tetragonal structure with I4/mmm space group, and show semiconducting behavior. The large discrepancy between the activation energies for conductivity, E{sub ρ} (152–202 meV), and thermopower, E{sub S} (15.6–39.8 meV), indicates the polaronic transport mechanism of the carrier. Abstract:By using solid-state reactions, we successfully synthesize new oxyselenides CsV2Se2-x O (x = 0, 0.5). These compounds containing V2O planar layers with a square lattice crystallize in the CeCr2Si2C structure with the space group of P4/mmm. Another new compound, V2Se2O, which crystallizes in space group I4/mmm is fabricated by topochemical deintercalation of cesium from CsV2Se2O powder with iodine in tetrahydrofuran. Resistivity measurements show a semiconducting behavior for CsV2Se2O, while a metallic behavior for CsV2Se1.5O, and an insulating feature for V2Se2O. A charge-or spin-density-wave like anomaly has been observed at 168 K for CsV2Se2O and 150 K for CsV2Se1.5O, respectively. These anomalies are also confirmed by the magnetic susceptibility measurements. The resistivity in V2Se2O exhibits an anomalous log(1/T) temperature dependence, which is similar to the case in parent phase or very underdoped cuprates indicating the involvement of strong correlation. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that the magnetic moment per V site in V2Se2O is much larger than that of CsV2Se2-xO, which again suggests the correlation-induced localization effect in the former.

Abstract:Neutron diffraction has been used to study the lattice and magnetic structures of the insulating and superconducting Rb${}_{y}$Fe${}_{1.6+x}$Se${}_{2}$. For the insulating Rb${}_{y}$Fe${}_{1.6+x}$Se${}_{2}$, neutron polarization analysis and single-crystal neutron diffraction unambiguously confirm the earlier proposed $\sqrt{5}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{5}$ block antiferromagnetic structure. For superconducting samples (${T}_{c}=30$ K), we find that in addition to the tetragonal $\sqrt{5}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{5}$ superlattice structure transition at 513 K, the material develops a separate $\sqrt{2}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{2}$ superlattice structure at a lower temperature of 480 K. These results suggest that superconducting Rb${}_{y}$Fe${}_{1.6+x}$Se${}_{2}$ is phase separated with coexisting $\sqrt{2}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{2}$ and $\sqrt{5}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{5}$ superlattice structures.

Abstract:we have reported the synthesis, electrical resistivity rho(T), Hall coefficient (R-H ) and magnetoresistance (MR) of Bi2O2Se single crystals with layered tetragonal structure (space group I4/mmm). The lattice parameters obtained after Rietveld refinement are a = b = 3.897 angstrom, c = 12.237 a, respectively. rho(T) and R-H measured in the temperature range from 2 K to 300 K show high carrier concentration extrinsic semiconductor behavior. At higher temperatures (130-300 K), the resistivity is dominated by phonon scattering mechanism, as manifested by rho(T) proportional to T-1.5 . The magnetic field dependence of resistivity is positive in the whole temperature range. The MR at 2 K increase monotonically with magnetic field and manifest very weak saturate trend up to 9 T where it reaches its maximum value with Delta rho(xx)/rho(xx) approximate to 100%.

Abstract:The magnetic properties of Sm2Fe17-xSix(x=0, 1, 2, 3) compounds and their hydrides have been systematically investigated. It was found that the Curie temperatures of the hydrides of Sm-2(Fe,Si)(17) measured during heating are higher than those measured during cooling. The difference between the Curie temperatures is denoted by Delta T-c*. The relationships between the structural stability of Sm-2(Fe, Si)(17) compounds and their corresponding hydrides with Delta T-c* are discussed.

Abstract:We studied the atomic and magnetic structures of the two-dimensional (2D) single-layer CrS2 and double-layer MoSe2/CrS2 systems based on the first principles. In this paper, the generalized Bloch condition was used to calculate the dispersion relationship E(q) between the energy of the spin spiral and spin spiral wave vector q. The curve was fitted by the Heisenberg model, and the multiple nearest neighbor Heisenberg interaction (HBI) parameters J(1)-J(6) of the single-layer CrS2 and MoSe2/CrS2 double-layer systems were obtained. The fitted HBI parameters were used to derive the E(q) over the full Brillouin zone. The paper found that the nonmagnetic MoSe2 layer changes the magnetic structure of CrS2 from an intralayer antiferromagnetic arrangement to an intralayer ferromagnetic arrangement. The mechanism can be summarized as follows: the MoSe2 layer expands the density of states of the Cr atoms, and the electron gas in MoSe2/CrS2 is transferred from the metallic CrS2 to the semiconductor MoSe2, resulting in a reduction in the Ruderman-KittelKasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction of the antiferromagnetic effect in CrS2. Finally, MoSe2/CrS2 exhibits ferromagnetism. This article lays the foundation to explore the various interaction mechanisms of 2D magnetic materials, such as double exchange and RKKY exchange, for the design and search for high-Curie-temperature magnetic materials and analysis of various 2D magnetic systems.

Abstract:New intercalation compounds Cr(x)ZrSe(2) were synthesized and thoroughly studied. Cr atoms were found to occupy the positions both tetrahedrally and octahedrally coordinated by the Se atoms in the interlayer gap. Abstract:The new layered manganese oxychalcogenides (LaO)${}_{2}$Mn${}_{2}$Se${}_{2}$O and (BaF)${}_{2}$Mn${}_{2}$Se${}_{2}$O, isostructural to (LaO)${}_{2}$Fe${}_{2}$Se${}_{2}$O, were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The single crystals of the former compound were also successfully grown using fusion method. The polycrystalline samples show the semiconducting behavior with the activation energy gaps of about 278 and 416 meV for (LaO)${}_{2}$Mn${}_{2}$Se${}_{2}$O and (BaF)${}_{2}$Mn${}_{2}$Se${}_{2}$O, respectively. The magnetic susceptibility and specific heat indicate an antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition at around 160 $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}$ 1 K for the former compound and 100 $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}$ 1 K for the latter compound. The strong anisotropic magnetic properties below ${T}_{N}$ of the former compound suggests a long-range canted AFM ordering. A broad maximum of the susceptibility can be observed for the two compounds at high temperatures of 360 and 210 K, respectively, suggesting that strong frustrated magnetic correlation gives rise to low-dimensional AFM or short-range ordering at high temperatures in these rare transition metal oxychalcogenides with an AFM checkerboard spin lattice.
Anisotropic magnetic properties and tunable conductivity in two-dimensional layered NaCrX2 (X=Te,Se,S) single crystals

Abstract:Monolayer NaCrX2 (X=Te,Se,S) were theoretically proposed to be two-dimensional intrinsic ferromagnetic semiconductors while their physical properties have not been thoroughly investigated in bulk single crystals. We report the single-crystal growth, structural, magnetic and electronic transport properties of NaCr(Te1-xSex)2 (0 6 x 6 1) and NaCrS2. For NaCr(Te1-xSex)2, the strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of NaCrTe2 can be gradually tuned to be a nearly isotropic one by Se-doping. Meanwhile, a systematic change in the conductivity with increasing x is observed, displaying a doping-induced metal-insulator-like transition. Under magnetic field larger than 30 koe, both NaCrTe2 and NaCrSe2 can be polarized to a ferromagnetic state. While for NaCrS2, robust antiferromagnetism is observed up to 70 kOe and two field-induced metamagnetic transitions are identified along H||ab. These intriguing properties together with the potential to be exfoliated down to few-layer thickness make NaCrX2 (X=Te,Se,S) promising for exploring spintronic applications.

Abstract:Emerging 2D chromium-based dichalcogenides (CrXn (X = S, Se, Te; 0 < n ≤ 2)) have provoked enormous interests due to their abundant structures, intriguing electronic and magnetic properties, excellent environmental stability, and great application potentials in next generation electronics and spintronics devices. Achieving stoichiometry-controlled synthesis of 2D CrXn is of paramount significance for such envisioned investigations. Herein, we report the stoichiometry-controlled syntheses of 2D chromium selenide (CrxSey) materials (rhombohedral Cr2Se3 and monoclinic Cr3Se4) via a Cr-self-intercalation route by designing two typical chemical vapor deposition (CVD) strategies. We have also clarified the different growth mechanisms, distinct chemical compositions, and crystal structures of the two type materials. Intriguingly, we reveal that the ultrathin Cr2Se3 nanosheets exhibit a metallic feature, while the Cr3Se4 nanosheets present a transition from p-type semiconductor to metal upon increasing the flake thickness. Moreover, we have also uncovered the ferromagnetic properties of 2D Cr2Se3 and Cr3Se4 below ∼70 K and ∼270 K, respectively. Briefly, this research should promote the stoichiometric-ratio controllable syntheses of 2D magnetic materials, and the property explorations toward next generation spintronics and magneto-optoelectronics related applications.

Abstract:We report the detail synthesis, single crystal structure characterization and magnetic properties of KLnSe(2) series obtained via solid state molten flux growth method. The crystal structures were characterized using single crystal x-ray diffraction. The overall structure contains two-dimensional (2D) layers made from edged shared LnSe(6)-octahedra. Ln(3+) ions form a perfect triangular magnetic lattice which propagates along ab-plane. These triangular lattices are separated by the K+ ions. The magnetic properties confirm that, Ce, Pr and Nd do not show any long-range ordering down to 0.4 K indicating frustrated magnetism in the KLnSe(2) series.

Abstract:Two iron(ii) mononuclear metal complexes with tris(pyridyl)-phosphine sulfides and Fe(ClO4)2·6H2O have been synthesized and characterized. Detailed structural analyses and magnetic susceptibility measurements confirm no spin transition from low-spin to the high-spin state between 2 and 300 K in these complexes.
Highly sensitive magnetic properties and large linear magnetoresistance in antiferromagnetic CrxSe(0.875\lex\le1)single crystals

Abstract:CrxSe (x\le1) is a class of quasi-layered binary compounds with potential applications in spintronics due to its intriguing antiferromagnetic properties. In this work, CrxSe single crystals with high Cr content (x=0.87, 0.91 and 0.95) were grown, and their magnetic and transport properties were investigated in detail. It is found that with small increase of Cr content, the Néel temperature (TN) of the samples can dramatically increase from 147 K to 257 K, accompanied with obvious changes in the magnetic anisotropy and hysteresis. The phenomena of field-induced spin-flop transitions were unveiled in these alloys, indicating their comparatively low anisotropy. The magnetoresistance (MR) of the three compounds showed positive dependence at low temperatures and particularly, non-saturated linear positive MR was observed in Cr0.91Se and Cr0.95Se, with a large value of 16.2% achieved in Cr0.91Se (10K, 9T). The calculated Fermi surface and MR showed that the quasi-linear MR is a product of carrier compensation. Our work revealed highly sensitive magnetic and transport properties in the Cr-Se compounds, which can lay foundation when constructing further antiferromagnetic spintronic devices based on them.
