Abstract:The precursors of LiFePO4 were prepared by low heating solid-state coordination method using lithium acetate, ammonium dihydric phosphate, ferrous oxalate and citric acid as raw materials. Olivine phase LiFePO4 as a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries was successfully synthesized by microwave heating in a few minutes. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to characterize its structure and morphology. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and charge–discharge cycling performance were used to characterize its electrochemical properties. The results showed that the grain size of the optimal sample was about 40–50nm, and the as-prepared particles were homogeneous. The nano-sized LiFePO4 obtained has a high electrochemical capacity (125mAhg−1) and stable cycle ability.

Abstract:Electrical energy storage devices of high power and energy densities are of vital importance in a wide range of large applications, including electric and hybrid electric vehicles, military portable energy sources, and civic power stations. Although lithium-ion batteries possess the highest energy density among all types of rechargeable batteries, their power densities fall far below the requirements needed by the high-power applications in which the batteries must be able to charge and discharge in very rapid cycles. Using nanoparticles could significantly increase the shuttling rate of lithium-ion because of the reduced diffusion length and increased surface area. However, nanoparticles of most transition metal oxides suffer from side reactions with electrolytes, resulting in poor electrochemical stability at high voltage. LiFePO4 nanoparticles are more attractive because of their relative low voltage and better electrochemical stability. In applications, LiFePO4 nanoparticles are usually agglomerated with significant distributions in size (a few tens to a few hundred nanometers) and shape (irregular or spherical particles), which may affect the overall electrochemical performance of the resulting cathodes. In addition, an extra carbon coating step is required for improving the electrical conductivity of LiFePO4.

Abstract:LiFePO4 cathode material was synthesized by high temperature sintering of the homogeneous mixture of Li2CO3,sugar and NH4FePO4·H2O precursor,synthesized from FeSO4,H3PO4 and NH3·H2O.The NH4FePO4·H2O and LiFePO4 structures were characterized by XRD and SEM.The effect of the content of carbine on the structure and electrochemical performance of LiFePO4 is discussed.It is found that NH4FePO4·H2O and LiFePO4 have similar crystal structure,causing replacement reaction between NH4FePO4·H2O and Li2CO3 in the process of sintering.As a result,the LiFePO4 cathode material with good electrochemical performance can be obtained.

Abstract:In this study, we report the preparation and electrochemical evaluation of LiFePO4-carbon nanocomposites with carbon aerogels of varied pore size and distribution. In these composites, LiFePO4 nanoparticles smaller than 50nm are confined to a three-dimensional (3D) microporous network that functions as the electronic and ionic conductor. The pore size of carbon aerogel is adjusted to achieve smaller LiFePO4 nanoparticles. The KOH activation treatment of carbon aerogels is used to increase micropores that act as electrolyte reservoirs and is beneficial for ionic conductivity. Additional carbon coating of LiFePO4 particles using glucose further enhances the electrode performance. The resultant composite electrodes exhibit superior rate performance and good cyclic stability due to the optimized nanostructure. The nanocomposites of LiFePO4 and carbon areogels provide good examples of material nano-engineering owing to their tunable nanostructures.

Abstract:The crystal structure of the electrochemical material, such as grain size and crystal lattice defects, influences its character directly. LiFePO4 cathode material was obtained by solid-state reaction of the homogeneous mixture, NH4FePO4 center dot H2O, Li2CO3, and sugar. The influences of the reaction temperature, content of carbon on the structure, and electrochemical performance of LiFePO4 were investigated. The X-ray diffraction characterization, scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical performance measurements were carefully studied. The relationship between grain size and the electrochemical performance is discussed. As a result, the LiFePO4 cathode material with 5% carbon obtained by sintering at 600 degrees C for 12 h has good electrochemical performance. Between 2.5 and 4.2 V vs Li, a reversible capacity is as high as 162 mAh g(-1) at 0.05 C. (c) 2006 The Electrochemical Society.

Preparation and Electrochemical Properties of High-performance LiFePO_4

Abstract:Carbon covered LiFePO4 powders with the microstructure of submicro-particles aggregated 5.01wt% carbon content, and the diameter of aggregated particle of 10μm were synthesized by solid state sintering processing. The capacity and cycle performance were studied at the charge and discharge rate of C/10, C/5, C/2 and 1C. The results show that below the rate of C/2, the voltage platform and capacity is not sensitive to the rate. When the rate is increased to 1C, the capacity is decreased and the voltage platform is increased in charge processing and decreased in discharge processing. Along with the increasing of cycle number, the capacity is increased to its saturate value. After 30 cycles, the capacities are 131.7, 129.1, 123.5 and 114.4 mAh/g, respectively.

Abstract:Monodispersed LiFePO4 [001] nanorods have been successfully synthesized via a conventional hydrothermal route with Li2SO4, FeSO4 and KH2PO4 as precursors. Subsequently, in virtue of the good monodispersibility LiFePO4@C core-shell [001] nanorods are facilely prepared by employing a carbon coating process on the obtained monodispersed LiFePO4 [001] nanorods. On the basis of the experimental results, a possible formation mechanism of the monodispersed LiFePO4 [001] nanorods has been proposed. Due to the full carbon coating, size reducing in [010] and the perfect olivine crystal lattice, the LiFePO4@C core-shell [001] nanorods exhibit excellent rate capacity and stable cycle performance.

Abstract:Plate-like LiFePO4@C nanostructures, in which LiFePO4 nanocrystallites with a size less than 50nm embedded in carbon coating matrix, with excellent high rate capacity and cycle performance have been successfully prepared via a conventional hydrothermal route in virtue of the assistance of the triblock copolymer P123. X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM, and thermogravimetric analysis were employed to characterize the prepared samples. The adsorption of P123 on the surfaces results in the plate-like LiFePO4@P123 nanostructures self-assembled with nanocrystallites. After annealing in inert Ar atmospheres, the plate-like LiFePO4@P123 nanostructures transform to plate-like LiFePO4@C nanostructures due to the carbonization of the adsorbed P123 film matrix. The plate-like LiFePO4@C nanostructures as Li-ion cathode materials deliver excellent high rate capacity and cycle stability, 128mAhg−1 discharge at 10C and 98% retention of the initial discharge capacity (151mAhg−1) at 0.1C after 100 cycles.

Preparation of the Particle Size Controllable LiFePO4/C and Its Electrochemical Profile Characterization

Abstract:We adopted an effective route to prepare the particle size controllable core-shell structure carbon-coated LiFePO 4 from different sized FePO4 precursors, varying from 80 nm, 200 nm and 1 μm by an in situ polymerization method integrated with a surface modification technology. The discharge capacities of the three sized LiFePO4 /C are, respectively, 162 mAh·g-1, 142 mAh·g-1 and 92 mAh·g-1at 0.1C rate. The nano-sized LiFePO4-a/C(80 nm) delivers a discharge capacity at large as 100 mAh·g-1at even at 30C, while the macroscopic LiFePO4-c/C(1 μm) exhibits a much poorer discharge capacity of 54 mAh·g-1under the same current density. The carbon coated LiFePO4(LiFePO4 /C) also shows good chemical stability after the exposure to air atmosphere, in which the uniform carbon layer could prevent the LiFePO4 from reacting with H2 O and O2.

Abstract:Core–shell LiFePO4/C nanocomposite has been prepared by a sol–gel method. The mean size of the spherical core LiFePO4 is about 30nm, and thickness of carbon shell is about 3nm. The bonding character on the interface of core–shell was revealed by soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The as-prepared sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectrum, Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Charge-discharge tests show the core–shell LiFePO4/C demonstrates high rate capability (106mAhg−1 at 20C) and good cycling performance (negligible capacity loss after 250 cycles).

Abstract:Carbon-coated lithium ion phosphate was synthesized from a gel precursor with ferric iron and a carbon source of organic chelating agent via a sol–gel method. The dependence of the microstructure and electrochemical performance of the synthesized LiFePO 4/ C on the pH value of the precursor solution during gel formation and the sintering time was investigated. The obtained LiFePO 4/ C particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and element analysis. The results show that the pH value has little effect on the phase purity. At a sintering temperature of 700°C, the discharge capacity of LiFePO 4/ C under 0.1 C (1 C = 170 mA/g) regime decreased from 152.8 to 62.5 mAh/g with decreasing the sintering time from 12 h to 8 h. Appropriate sintering time can lead to well-crystallized LiFePO 4/ C , which improves the electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Nano FePO4 center dot xH(2)O powders were synthesized by controlled crystallization method, using Fe(II) compound as the iron source. The nano FePO3 center dot xH(2)O powders were pretreated at 500 degrees C for 4 h in air to obtain nano FePO4 precursor. Then the olivine nano LiFePO4/C composites were obtained through carbonthermal reduction process at different temperatures. The structure, morphology, physicochemical properties and electrochemical properties of the nano FePO4 center dot xH(2)O powder, FePO4 precursor and LiFePO4/C composites synthesized at different temperatures were characterized in detail by thermogravimetric/differential scanning calorimeter (TG/DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurement and electrochemical measurement. The result show that the nano LiFePO4/C composite calcined at 700 degrees C for 10 h has fine particle sizes of about 40-100 nm. The BET test shows that the as-prepared nano LiFePO4/C composite has great specific surface area of 79.8 m(2)/g. The nano LiFePO4/C composite cathode material can deliver an initial discharge capacity of 156.5, 134.9, 105.8, 90.3 and 80.9 mAh/g in the voltage range of 2.5-4.2 V, at rate of 0.1C, 1C, 5C, 10C and 15C respectively, which exhibits good rate performance. The nano LiFePO4/C composite also demonstrates excellent cyclic performance.

Abstract:AbstractLiFePO4/graphene-oxide (GNO) composites were prepared by co-precipitation method. Their structure and morphology were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. A low content of GNO can be uniformly dispersed in the matrix of LiFePO4 nano particles, while at a higher content, GNO will aggregate severely and has a negative effect on the electrochemical performance of LiFePO4. Further heat treatment can improve the crystallinity of LiFePO4, and improve the electrochemical performance of LiFePO4 with a relatively low content of GNO.

Preparation and properties of LiFePO4/C composite materials with Fe2O3 as starting reactant

Abstract:LiFePO4 was considered as a new kind of cathode material candidate for lithium ion batteries due to its advantages. LiFePO4/C composites were successfully prepared from Fe2O3 via solid state reaction by a thermal reduction method in Ar + 5% ( volume fraction) H-2 atmosphere. The crystal structure and electrochemical behavior of the materials were investigated using XRD, SEM, CV and charge/discharge cycle measurements. Based on the results of TGA-DTA, LiFePO4/C Composites were synthesized at different temperatures, and it was found that the LiFePO4/C composites synthesized at 700 degrees C with 8.76% mass fraction carbon content presented the initial discharge capacity of 144.8 mA center dot h/g at 0.1 C, and after 160 cycles, the capacity remained as 141.4 mA center dot h/g. The method is available due to the low cost of Fe2O3 instead of using bivalent ferrous compound.

Abstract:The precursors of LiFePO4 were prepared by room-temperature solid-state reaction using CH3COOLi, NH4H2PO4, FeC2O4 center dot 2H(2)O as raw materials. Citric acid was added to reduce the particle size of LiFePO4, and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were adopted to improve the electrical conductivity. The LiFePO4 samples were synthesized for a few minutes by microwave heating. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope were used to characterize their structures and morphologies. The results showed that all samples had the same olivine phase structure. When both citric acid and MWCNTs were added, nanoparticles of LiFePO4 homogeneously coated on the MWCNTs. An electrochemical test showed that LiFePO4, with both citric acid and MWCNTs addition, demonstrated an excellent electrochemical capacity of 145 mAh/g at C/2 and stable cycle ability. Citric acid expansion reduced the particle size, thus reducing the length of diffusion or improving the reversibility of the lithium ion intercalation/deintercalation. MWCNTs functioned as a lead to connect the LiFePO4 particles and enabled active materials to transport lithium ions and electrons at fast rates.
