Abstract:A green and practical method to construct benzimidazoles, which are ubiquitous structural units in a number of biologically active compounds, has been developed. Abstract:Several aromatic aldehydes and sodium bisulfite were mixed to prepare hydroxyl sulfonates,which were added to o-phenylenediamine or substituted o-phenylenediamine in refluxing ethanol to afford 2-substi-tuted benzimidazoles through oxidation by air directly.One of the fifteen synthesized compounds,2-(4-chlorophyenyl)-6-methoxyl-1H-benzimidazole has not been reported.All the compounds were identified by IR,1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis.The method is simple,mild,eco-friendly and requires no catalyst.

Abstract:An oxidant promoted 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of benzimidazolium ylides to alkenes was developed for the preparation of 4H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]benzimidazole derivatives in moderate yields under mild conditions. In the presence of a suitable oxidant, the most commercially available "normal" alkenes, instead of alkynes or "abnormal" alkenes, could be used as dipolarophiles successfully. Moreover, CrO3/Et3N has been proved to be a more effective dehydrogenating reagent than MnO2 or tetrakispyridine cobalt (II) dichromate (TPCD) in this procedure.

Abstract:Benzimidazolone constitutes the core structure of numerous pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, inhibitors, pigments, herbicides, and fine chemicals. Amination of hydrocarbons is an attractive tool for the creation of nitrogen-containing products. However, the multiple steps, harsh conditions, and low atom efficiencies often present in these reactions remain challenging. We present a multicomponent synthesis of functional benzimidazolones from arylamines, dialkylamines, and alcohols, acting via the sequence of copper-catalyzed oxidative tandem C-H aminations and alkyl deconstructive carbofunctionalization. The catalytic transformation forms multiple bonds in one single operation, uses readily available feedstocks and a naturally abundant Cu/O2 catalyst system, has broad substrate scope, avoids pre-installation of aminating agents and directing groups, and provides high chemo- and regioselectivity, resulting in direct functionalization of inert C-H and C-C bonds via single-electron oxidation-induced activation mode. This platform can be expected to provide structurally diverse products with interesting biological, chemical, and physical properties.

Abstract:An electrochemically promoted coupling of benzoxazoles and amines has been developed, leading directly to the formation of 2-aminobenzoxazoles. The chemistry utilizes catalytic quantities of a tetraalkylammonium halide redox catalyst and is carried out under constant current conditions in a simple undivided cell. The use of excess chemical oxidant or large amounts of supporting electrolyte is avoided. This greatly simplifies the workup and isolation process and leads to a reduction in waste.

Abstract:We have developed an efficient method for the synthesis of benzimidazoles via cascade reactions of o-haloacetoanilide derivatives with amidine hydrochlorides. The protocol uses 10 mol % CuBr as the catalyst, Cs2CO3 as the base, and DMSO as the solvent, and no ligand is required. The procedure proceeds via the sequential coupling of o-haloacetoanilide derivatives with amidines, hydrolysis of the intermediates (amides), and intramolecular cyclization with the loss of NH3 to give 2-substituted 1H-benzimidazoles.

Abstract:Benzazoles, as crucial intermediates, can be synthesized via a superior four-step tandem catalytic process from benzyl alcohols and o-substituted anilines. However, the reported catalysis system needs complex catalysts, toxoneic solvents, and additives; meanwhile, the efficient synthesis of benzimidazoles, benzoxazoles, and benzothiazoles using a single catalyst represents a substantial challenge in the field of synthetic chemistry. Herein, we constructed an amorphous Fe0.8Mn0.2Ox-300 catalyst by a simple coprecipitation method. Fe0.8Mn0.2Ox-300 can efficiently catalyze the four-step tandem synthesis of 2-arylbenzimidazole, 2-arylbenzoxazole, and 2-arylbenzothiazole from benzyl alcohol, o-phenylenediamine, 2-aminophenol, and 2-aminothiophenol, respectively, using O-2 without solvent and additives. Comprehensive characterization revealed that Fe0.8Mn0.2Ox-300 possesses more oxygen vacancies and stronger oxygen capture capability, promoting the oxidation of alcohol and 2-aryl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzimidazole. Due to its high density of acidic sites, Fe0.8Mn0.2Ox-300 effectively boosts the condensation and cyclization of aldehydes and amines while simultaneously inhibiting the formation of diamines, thereby enhancing the overall selectivity. Our work presents an alternative green approach for the industrial synthesis of benzazoles.
