Abstract:In this article we study the structure and properties of g-inverse M− of the bordered matrixM=ABC0,which is partitioned conforming with M,M−=D1D2D3D4by applying the multiple quotient singular value decomposition QQ-SVD. From the structure of M−, we discuss the relations among D1,D2,D3 and D4, and derive equivalent conditions for M− to be a bordered matrix. By studying D1 in M−, we obtain some equivalent conditions for D1 to be a g-inverse of A.

Let $\mathcal{R}=M_m(\mathcal{D})$ be a ring of $n\times n$ matrices over $D$, $m\geq 2$. The main theorem in the paper states that the only additive maps $f$ and $g$ satisfying that $f(X)+X^ng(X^{-1})=0$ for all invertible $X\in \mathcal{R}$, are zero maps, which generalizes both a result proved by Dar and Jing and a result proved by Catalano and Merch$\acute{a}$n.

Abstract:For a square matrix A of index 1, the block-rank equationrankABCX=rank(A)is studied. Geometrical conditions are given to characterize the solution of this equation. Further, all matrices B and C are described for the solution X=A#, where A# is the group inverse of A. In addition, we extend these results to reflexive generalized inverses. This contributes to a result recently obtained by Wei [SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 17 (1996) 744] and it is a generalization of a result by Groß [Lin. Alg. Appl. 289 (1999) 127].

Abstract:The inverse of a nonsingular matrix is a continuous function of the elements of the matrix. The continuity of the generalized inverse A+ of a matrix A was also investigated by scholars. In this paper,applying matrices splitting and the expansion of inverse of sum of two matrices,the continuity of matrices inverse,such as general nonsingular matrices,M-matrices and H-matrices,respectively,is provided. Inverses of these matrices are continuous when some reasonable conditions are satisfied.

Abstract:We study the notion of algebraic tangent cones at singularities of reflexive sheaves. These correspond to extensions of reflexive sheaves across a negative divisor. We show the existence of optimal extensions in a constructive manner, and we prove the uniqueness in a suitable sense. The results here are an algebro-geometric counterpart of our previous study on singularities of Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections.

Abstract:We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for invertibility of symmetric three-by-three block matrices having a double saddle-point structure \fb{that guarantee the unique solvability of double saddle-point systems}. We consider various scenarios, including the case where all diagonal blocks are allowed to be rank deficient. Under certain conditions related to the nullity of the blocks and intersections of their kernels, an explicit formula for the inverse is derived.

Abstract:We study the inverses of block Toeplitz matrices based on the analysis of the block cyclic displacement. New formulas for the inverses of block Toeplitz matrices are proposed. We show that the inverses of block Toeplitz matrices can be decomposed as a sum of products of block circulant matrices. In the scalar case, the inverse formulas are proved to be numerically forward stable, if the Toeplitz matrix is nonsingular and well conditioned.

Abstract:To a given nonsingular triangular matrix A with entries from a ring, we associate a weighted bipartite graph G(A) and give a combinatorial description of the inverse of A by employing paths in G(A). Under a certain condition, nonsingular triangular matrices A such that A and A^{-1} have the same zero-nonzero pattern are characterized. A combinatorial construction is given to construct outer inverses of the adjacency matrix of a weighted tree.
