Abstract:Conflicts and tensions among major powers are often seen as clashes of interests between entities with significant influence. Nevertheless, from a historiographical standpoint, one would challenge the validity of such a simplistic view. The themes of nations that have to be considered full are undeniably formed by comprehensive historical and cultural components. Hence, it is essential to comprehensively evaluate cultural disparities to have a comprehensive understanding of interstate conflicts. This research uses case studies and qualitative methodologies to conduct a comparative analysis of the ideologies and national value identities that underlie Chinese-American interactions during the last decade. It focuses on the cultural distinctions inherited from China and the United States in order to get a deeper understanding of these connections. This research posits that the concept of democracy is firmly ingrained in the cultural and political fabric of these societies, giving rise to divergent ideologies. Numerous pieces of evidence indicate that the cultural aspects of a country significantly influence its political evolution.

Abstract:This research is a survey study of the opinions of one group of China scholars in the U.S.—scholars teaching Chinese politics in American universities—on issues concerning the People's Republic of China. Our findings suggest that despite some new developments in the Sinologist community in the U.S., China scholars continue to favor more generous and more pragmatic approaches toward China. They are more concerned with practical issues such as regional stability and economic ties with China and do not want the U.S. to be highly moralistic in dealing with China. Abstract:In recent years,U.S.congressional-presidential relationship has undergone fundamental changes in the field of American foreign policy,and produced effects on U.S.China policymaking.On the one hand,the bipartisan consensus as the backbone of U.S.foreign policy has been weakened.On the other hand,the Congress is seeking to strengthen its role in the process of U.S.foreign policy making.In unfolding debates over China,the strands of"confrontation"and"engagement"can find their advocators and supporters in both the Capitol Hill and the White House.The political discourses have revisited major concerns of the United States toward China since the end of the Cold War,but are narrated in new lexicons in thenew era.As for the agendas of U.S.China-policy,there has been continuity of competition,strife and compromises in the power relationship between the legislative and executive branches.

Abstract:The Journal of Chinese Political Science (JCPS) is publishing a series of special issues, containing retrospective and prospective papers on the state of Chinese political studies, past, present and future.We call upon China scholars worldwide to contribute to these important special issues which will have a significant impact on the intellectual development of the field.Our goal is to disseminate scholarship that can shed light on the ever changing field of Chinese political studies, provide valuable material for scholar teachers and researchers of Chinese politics, and highlight the achievements, problems and issues, and directions of this field.We have witnessed the substantial transformation of China studies, particularly Chinese political studies, in the past 30 years due to changes in China and its rising status in the world as well as changes in our ways of conducting research.As area studies specialists, we are no longer "isolated" from the larger disciplines of Political Science and International Relations (IR) but an integral part of them.A simple survey of the JCPS and other journals reveals that we have applied theories and methods from these larger disciplines to Chinese political studies and that we have sought to meet the standards of scientific research and theoretical relevance in the two disciplines.The scholarship we produce today has advanced far beyond the days of classic Sinology.However, theoretical and methodological approaches in Chinese political studies are very diverse, and substantive issues in various Chinese contexts are being studied from a broader comparative perspective.As Lynn T. White points out in his paper, "Chinese and Asian comparative research can help reverse the methodological narrowness that obscures much actual politics in the world from being studied circumspectly."Scholars and students in our field still vividly remember texts used in graduate school and innumerable papers published by first rate comparativists such as Sydney Verba, Arendt Lijphart, David Collier, James Mahon, Giovanni Satori, Gary King, David Easton, and many others.

Abstract:The interaction between China and the US is examined since the current head of the Chinese state – Xi Jinping – came to power. The separate characteristics of the China policies adopted by the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations are examined. China's position and main concepts of foreign policy are discussed as well. The main factors of disagreements between China and the US are discussed. The geopolitical rivalry in the Indo-Pacific region and the Taiwan issue are defined as the two main reasons for the escalation of relations. The dangers of the conflict between China and the US and the necessary factors to reduce the tension are examined.

The Political Bedrock of American Protectionism:A Case Study of Sino-U.S. Trade Frictions

Abstract:Recent changes in American politics and the international economy have aroused concerns for U.S. trade policy. In a case study of Sino-U.S. trade frictions, the author analyzes the political bedrock of American protectionism. The authors use a methodology that combines the international system and the American bureaucratic political decision-making process. According to this model, liberalism is still the main target, although protectionism will continue to be an important element in future U.S. trade policy. This also applies to American trade policy with China.

Abstract:China's trade relations with the United States over the past four decades is a topic that has not been fully dealt with in scholarly works. This paper charts the course of US-China economic relations since 1971, explains the principal forces stimulating growth and encouraging change and, finally, discusses how these two economic giants fit into an interlocking Asian and world economy. In reaction to the post-2008 financial downturn, advocates for a new world economic order have suggested a rebalancing of global demand, which will arguably become a major, politically charged issue in the US and in China in the years to come. Growing economic interdependence has quickly presented new challenges and opportunities, with issues such as human rights, Most-Favoured-Nation status, the Taiwan and Tibet question, and the huge American trade deficit threatening to cloud the relationship at times. With China's emergence as a major power and America's hegemonic ambitions tested in successive wars, the contradiction between a booming commercial relationship and conflict associated with geopolitical and ideological differences will continue to constitute a serious challenge. The long-term goal for each side will be to forge economic ties strong enough to create a stable political relationship, rather than to be held hostage by geopolitical constraints.

Abstract:The article analyzes three basic concepts that affect the Bush Administration's security policy toward China-"dissuasion," "hedging," and "deterrence." "Dissuasion" is aimed at preventing China from engaging in military competition with the United States."Hedging" is to deal with the "uncertainties" of China's strategic trend."Deterrence" is to prevent China from using force over Taiwan.The author holds that American security policy toward China guided by these concepts has increased pressure on China's security,intensified the instability of the Taiwan Strait area,and made a negative impact on the political and security structure of the region.It goes against the Sino-US development trend and will cause tensions within the framework of America's China policy.Therefore,an adjustment is inevitable.
