Abstract:With the support of edge computing, the synergy and collaboration among central cloud, edge cloud, and terminal devices form an integrated computing ecosystem known as the cloud-edge-client architecture. This integration unlocks the value of data and computational power, presenting significant opportunities for large-scale 3D scene modeling and XR presentation. In this paper, we explore the perspectives and highlight new challenges in 3D scene modeling and XR presentation based on point cloud within the cloud-edge-client integrated architecture. We also propose a novel cloud-edge-client integrated technology framework and a demonstration of municipal governance application to address these challenges.

Abstract:Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communication technologies (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. With integrated solutions across four key domains: telecommunication networks, IT, smart devices, and cloud services, Huawei is committed to bringing digital transformation to every person, home and organization for a fully connected and intelligent world. Founded in 1987, Huawei currently has more than 180,000 employees, and operates in more than 170 countries and regions with revenue over 100 billion USD in 2018. Data management plays a key role in all of the four key domains above. We have developed innovative products and solutions to support rapid business growth driven by customer requirements. While many data management problems are common, each domain also has its own special requirements and challenges. In this paper, we will go through recent advancements in Huawei data management technologies including a petabyte scale enterprise analytics platform (FusionInsight MPPDB) and a highly available in-memory database for telecommunication networks (GMDB). In addition, we discuss data management challenges that we are facing in the areas of autonomous databases and device-edge-cloud collaboration data platforms.

Abstract:Hong focuses on how the state, in conjunction with market forces and class interests, is constructing and realigning its digitalized sector. State planners intend to build a more competitive ICT sector by modernizing the network infrastructure, corporatizing media-and-entertainment institutions, and by using ICT as a crosscutting catalyst for innovation, industrial modernization, and export upgrades. The goal: to end China’s industrial and technological dependence upon foreign corporations while transforming itself into a global ICT leader. The project, though bright with possibilities, unleashes implications rife with contradiction and surprise. Hong analyzes the central role of information, communications, and culture in Chinese style capitalism. She also argues that the state and elites have failed to challenge entrenched interests or redistribute power and resources, as promised. Instead, they prioritize information, communications, and culture as technological fixes to make pragmatic tradeoffs between economic growth and social justice.

Abstract:<p>The emergence of 5G and the trade dispute between China and the United States have made Huawei a global hot topic. Owning 37% of the patents, Huawei is undoubtedly one of the key players in the development of 5G. For both governmental policy-makers and business decision-makers, an in-depth understanding of this rapidly growing manufacturer is therefore of significant implications to formulate 5G policy and strategies. Given the lack of systematic studies of how Huawei has grown from a local technology follower to a global technology leader in less than three decades, this paper provides a comprehensive review of Huawei's practice in implementing open innovation. Open innovation is perhaps one of the most powerful key factors behind Huawei's rapid development. The findings shed new lights on the use of open innovation governance models and how to source and work with academic partners. The implications of Huawei's case will also be discussed.</p>

Abstract:For many years, Huawei was only an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), which means that the company only developed and designed mobile phones for other manufactures. In 2011, the company switched its vision and also decided to produce mobile phones under their own name. Furthermore, since 2012, Huawei is rushing to the European market. Its vision is to become one of the top three world smartphone brands. The focus of Huawei is on continuous innovation that is customer-centric and improving customer service quality. Huawei is also the third largest applicant for patents in the world. The company is capable of offering innovative products for a cheaper price, sometimes even more than 25 % cheaper than similar products of its competitor. Africa’s mobile technology progression would not have been as far as it is now without Huawei and its cheaper products. The success of Huawei could also be due to the help that Huawei is accused of receiving from the Chinese government. However, this could also be something that is stopping Huawei from entering markets, as Huawei could represent a national security threat.

Abstract:With the increasing development of the current global mobile phone industry chain, the mobile phone market has gradually entered the oligopoly situation, in the high-end market, represented by Apple, Samsung and Huawei, and in the low-end market, many brands are in the line. This paper takes Huawei, which has developed rapidly in the global mobile phone market in recent years, as an example, and further studies the current competitive environment, as well as its advantages and disadvantages through Porter's Five Forces model. Furthermore, according to this, the corresponding market development strategy is given. In addition, since the development of Huawei has been gradually affected by the complicated relations between China and the United States in recent years, this paper also argues that the possible strategy direction of Huawei with non-market factors in the background of increasingly tense international relations, hoping to give Huawei better strategic suggestions for future development.

Abstract:Purpose In this paper, the authors tentatively develop a theoretical model that depicts how the dynamic capabilities of a firm may be driven by three macro-organizational foundations: visionary leadership, organizational culture, and empowered human resources. The authors propose that visionary leaders are the original driver of dynamic capabilities and that visionary leaders create a unique organizational culture and empowered human resources so that their organizations embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship, an orientation toward learning, and a commitment to mission-driven improvement. Design/methodology/approach The authors use a case of the early success of a highly performing Chinese telecommunication equipment producer, Huawei Technology, to explain the theoretical model that shows how dynamic capabilities are developed as visionary leaders influence firm routines for learning, innovation, and strategic human resource policies, which in turn collectively create and update operational capabilities to deliver directly manipulatable competitive advantages. Findings The paper concludes by arguing that the sources of dynamic capabilities need not be dynamic. Instead, visionary leadership, organizational culture, and human resource policies are relatively stable factors in comparison with other possible competence-building mechanisms such as innovation or ambidexterity. Practical implications The authors’ model provides a direction for firms in high-tech industries to develop dynamic capabilities in order to maintain competitiveness and sustain high performance. Originality/value This paper is the first to present three macro-level drivers of dynamic capabilities, and it is also the first to understand the success of Huawei from a dynamic capabilities perspective.

Abstract:AbstractDigitalization has tremendously challenged how international opportunities are created and captured. Inspired by researches in the field of both entrepreneurship and international business, this study provides a comprehensive framework toward the impact of digital technologies (DTs) on opportunity pursuit in foreign markets. We identify two perspectives of DTs, i.e., DTs as ‘driving force’ and DTs as ‘disrupting force,’ which characterize DTs as a catalyst of experiential knowledge acquisition, and as a factor altering the relative significance of experiential knowledge to opportunity pursuit, respectively. By bridging these two perspectives with the notion of market-specific knowledge and general knowledge within internationalization process theory, some arguments with regard to what specific influences DTs play on international opportunity pursuit are further introduced. We hope this study can potentially offer some nuances to both practitioners as well as the research in the interaction of digitalization and international opportunity.

Abstract:In recent years, the rapid development of China's technology and information economy, the Internet, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, blockchain and other technologies to accelerate innovation, creating a huge development space and development opportunities for communications equipment manufacturing and sales class enterprises. Under the trend of world economic globalization, the competition among enterprises is becoming increasingly fierce, which means that the traditional management concept can no longer meet the development needs of enterprises. Modern enterprises pay more attention to strategic thinking, and try to combine, extend and apply it with management in order to seek long-term development. Strategic management has also become the focus of scholars' research.This paper take Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. as an example to analyze, the main study of the enterprise in the development process to adopt a variety of corporate strategies, and this paper will also use SWOT analysis of corporate strategies. The results find that Huawei has great advantages in interms of the four aspects of SWOT. This study brings reference significance and direction for the development of electronic technology enterprises.

Abstract:With the continuous development of technology, the updating and iteration of scientific and technological achievements are accelerating. Under the background of the increasing popularization of information technology and network technology, the era of big data is gradually coming. In recent years, Chinese private enterprises led by Huawei have developed rapidly and gained popularity in the world. Meanwhile, Huawei is also an important technology-oriented and research-oriented enterprise in China. With continuous innovation, Huawei has made outstanding contributions to China's chip technology development and 5G development. Huawei is committed to bringing the digital world into all fields, building a smart world where everything is connected, and making all industries and organizations agile, efficient and vibrant thanks to a powerful digital platform. The success of the external market cannot be separated from the effective and orderly internal control management of the enterprise. This paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of Huawei's internal control management by comparing the internal control policies and practices of other types of enterprises, and puts forward relevant suggestions. This paper uses the literature research method to conduct the study. Finally, this paper finds that Huawei's transition from financial accounting to management accounting is at the forefront of the industry in terms of ideas, technology and actions, which is worth learning from many other enterprises.

Abstract:Cross-functional ambidexterity enables organizations to juxtapose exploration and exploitation across different functional domains (particularly in product and market domains). While it creates an efficient and synergetic fusion of complementary streams of exploratory and exploitative activities during radical technological changes, it¡¯s unclear how cross-functional ambidexterity is established. In order to gain a better understanding, we draw on the theoretical perspective of punctuated equilibrium in our in-depth case study on Huawei Mobile, the Consumer Business Group of a Chinese multinational information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. Huawei Mobile managed to transform its products from low-end cellphones to high-end smartphones in the three-year period during 2011 to 2013. In this paper, we outlined the evolutionary path of Huawei Mobile¡¯s cross- functional ambidexterity, and found that the company had retained, adjusted, and constructed different types of complementary assets to facilitate the transformation. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed based on our findings.

Abstract:ABSTRACT During technology transitions, incumbents are frequently faced with the ambidextrous challenge of exploiting existing capabilities and exploring new ones. While extant studies focus on radical changes in the product domain, we notice radical changes can happen in both product and market domains. Pioneering studies indicate that cross-functional ambidexterity addresses this challenge at the business-unit level by juxtaposing exploration and exploitation across different functional domains (particularly in product and market domains) and that complementary assets address this challenge at the organizational level. However, how efforts at two levels can be combined to build cross-functional ambidexterity and what roles complementary assets play remain unclear. Therefore, this study conducts an in-depth case study of Huawei Mobile, which managed to achieve superior performance during a technology transition that triggers radical changes in both product and market domains. We find that multi-level synergies contribute to the transition process. Specifically, cross-functional ambidexterity is constructed by prioritizing exploration in the product domain ahead of that in the market domain, and that it generates learning, brand and channel extension, matching, and brand alliance benefits at the business-unit level. Complementary assets help to reduce the uncertainty of exploration and resolve functional conflicts at the organizational level.

Abstract:This paper aims to analyse Huawei Technologies(Huawei), the world's biggest telecommunications equipment manufacturer's success from different theoretically lens. Huawei is an unique company with many management practices that are not commonly adopted by neither Chinese nor western firms. After carefully review the current academic literatures on Huawei, we found that current literatures only use Huawei as a descriptive case from limited angles (namely standardisation, internationlisation, innovation and company culture). The uniqueness that might lead to Huawei's success have not been captured, not to mention possible theoretical explanations. This paper tries to address this gap by firstly identifying the management practises that differentiates Huawei from other companies. These differences are then analysed using existing theories. Supporting evidence collected from former Huawei executives also contribute to the analyse.

Abstract:Open innovation (OI) has received significant attention from practices and theories over the past decades. This paper investigates the role of OI and personalized patterns in firms at home and abroad, and then measures the risks involved. Firstly, this paper reviews the definition of OI, the business model innovation characteristics, and the facing problems in practice. Based on the existing literature, we illustrate the openness and challenges of business OI. By introducing bibliometrics, this paper presents a whole research framework. Based on keywords cooccurrence analysis and clustering analysis, we locate the current research hotspots and potential research opportunities from a comprehensive perspective. According to the analysis results, five clusters are obtained, including resource management and value creation; collective innovation and form sustainability; innovation management, intellectual property management, and crossborder cooperation; knowledge management and knowledge sharing; innovation ecosystem, big data, and policy-level innovation. Taking Huawei as an example, its typical business OI model is studied from the perspectives of organizational, project-related, marketing and consumer-based, and summaries the facing challenges and risks. We illustrate its financial performance, innovation performance, and development prospects. We found that, during the implementation of OI practical activities and theoretical exploration, the risks and opportunities facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are multiple dimensional.
