Abstract:The effect of sound field on hydrous ZrO2 colloid produced with the sol-gel method is studied. The results indicate that the gel of average size and good dispersion can be obtained in a suitable sound field. There is little agglemeration in the gel.

Abstract:High-performance submicron ZrSiO4 powder is prepared by a sol-gel-microemulsion-hydrothermal method (S-G-M-H). In this method, the transformation from sol to gel is constrained in the droplets of the microemulsion and accelerated by the hydrothermal process. The interface change of sol/oil to gel/oil makes the emulsion automatic demulsificate without demulsiflers, which means that the organic solvents can be recycled. The preparation process is low-cost and environmentally friendly. The results show that the synthesized ZrSiO4 powder owns the optimized median diameter (D50) of 0.67 mu m under the optimized preparation condition of hydrothermal treatment at 150 degrees C for 7 h. The ZrSiO4 particles are the agglomeration of the primary particles with a size of about 100 nm. As an opacifler, 15 wt% submicron ZrSiO4 powder added give a whiteness value of 85 to the opaque glaze, which is significantly better than commercial ZrSiO4 powder with the same amount added. Meanwhile, the obtained submicron powder has excellent sintering activity. After sintered at 1300 degrees C for 2 h, the ZrSiO4 pellets has the density of 4.32 g cm(-3) and the porosity of 0.31%. Abstract:The Zirconia powders were synthesized by sol-gel process. The effect of acid concentration on the gel times and effect of heat treatment on the crystal phases of ZrO2 were investigated. The gel time increased with increase of HNO3 concentration The stable tetragonal phase ZrO2 could be formed at lower temperature.

Abstract:We performed systematic experiments on the synthesis of layered crystal α-ZrP and revealed the control of size, aspect ratio and size polydispersity of disk-shaped crystals. The growth of the disks is mediated by oriented attachment, taking place continuously throughout the hydrothermal treatment between various sized disks. The master of the synthesis of layered crystals will contribute to various applications such as the nanocomposites and liquid crystals.

Abstract:Using zirconium chloride and tin chloride as precursor,ZrO 2-SnO 2 composite sol was prepared with auxiliary of the propylene epoxide.The influences of the various additives and solvent composition on pH and gel time variation were investigated.In addition,structure and composition of the Xerogel after heat treatment were investigated with TG-DTA and XRD analysis.2wt%ZrO 2-SnO 2 composite sol could be synthetized when R PO/Cl =1.5/1,V W/E =1/3 and dilute nitric acid amount was 1.5ml/100ml.Mean particles size of sol was about 33.5nm.The Xerogel heat-treated at 500℃～550℃ was consist of orthorhombic ZrSnO 4,tetragonal phase ZrO 2 and SnO 2.

Abstract:Al2O3-ZrO(2)microspheres were prepared by internal gelation method. The effects of Al(3+)on the stability of solution and performance of gel spheres were studied. Al(3+)had a great influence on the stability of the solutions, and the more of the amount of Al3+, the shorter of the stabilization time. Because Al(3+)did not copolymerize with Zr(4+)during the sol-gel transformation, the strength of gel sphere added with Al(3+)was low and deformed easily as it was squeezed. The results of our experiments well verify Glasser team's speculation and conclusions. At the same time, based on the experimental results, we prepared Al2O3-ZrO(2)composite microspheres with higher content of Al(2)O(3)by controlling the pH of the solution. The change curve of viscosity with time and the stabilization time of the solution with different Al(3+)dosage were given, which could provide references for industrial mass production. Samples without hydrothermal treatment cracked severely, while the samples hydrothermally treated kept structural integrity with no cracks after calcined. Al2O3-ZrO(2)microspheres with no segregation and phase separation were prepared and alumina evenly distributed in the zirconia matrix. When the content of Al(2)O(3)was low, the tetragonal phase was stable. And the cubic phase was obtained when the content of Al(2)O(3)was more.

Abstract:The inorganic salt dichlorooxozirconium was used as precursors for preparing microspheres by sol-gel processing under microwave irradiation.The effect of different mixed solvent on the shape of ZrO2 microspheres was researched.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscope(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD) were used to characterize the as-prepared ZrO2 microspheres.The results showed that the ZrO2 microspheres were mono-dispersive.The mixed alcohol-water solvent directly affected the nucleation and growth of zirconia.

Abstract:Preparation process of sol-gel of ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 was investigated, and the mechanism of conversion for sot to gel was discussed. Crystallization process of stiff gel was analyzed. The results showed that the conversion time for sot to gel gradually prolonged, and the appearance of get transmuted from cloudy to clear and bright with the increase of SiO2/(ZnO+B2O3) ratio, while the crystallizing temperature of stiff gel was increased. The main crystalline phase was Zn2SiO4, a small ratio of quartz was also detected. The phase analysis and IR results indicated that B2O3-SiO2 glass always existed in the samples both before and after being heat-treated. The SEM results showed that there were a lot of circle holes with size of 0.4 Am in the stiff gel after being heat-treated at 800&DEG; C.

Abstract:Gelation process of ultrafine ZrO2slurry at room temperature was studied to probe into application of gelcasting in ultrafine powder fields. The effects of deionized water/monomer/cross linker ratio and the addition of initiator and catalyst on the gelation process of ultrafine ZrO2slurry were studied at room temperature through observing the change of slurry temperature in gelling process, the microstructure of gelcasted bodies and the variation of material strength. It is proved that a stable network is formed at deionized water/monomer/cross linker ratio of 100/15/1 (by weight). The idle time and reaction time can be controlled via adjusting initiator and catalyst. When the premixed solution/initiator/catalyst ratio is 100/1/0.5 (by volume), the idle time and reaction time are 20 minutes and 28 minutes respectively. Gelcasting of ultrafine ZrO2slurry can be carried out at room temperature.

Abstract:Li∶ZnO films on glass sheets were prepared by solgel technique with a two-step heating process. The results of XRD, SEM,AFM and electrical resistance measurement indicate that the Li∶ZnO films with different heating temperatures per layer are characterized by a good c-orientation, smooth and homogeneous surface, dense and small particles and high resistivity (≈10 7Ω·cm). All these properties show that the films can meet the requirements for surface acoustic wave devices. The better properties of the films obtained by the present technique are due to an optimized film microstructure got from the technique.

Abstract:Vanadium dioxide (VO2) films were prepared on the glass substrates with a sol-gel process using polyvinyl pyrrolidone as a crosslinking agent. Zirconium ions were doped to decrease the phase transition temperature of VO2 films. X-ray diffraction, electrical resistance and optical transmittance spectra were measured to study the microstructure and thermochromic properties of Zr-doped VO2 films. The XRD peaks of Zr-doped VO2 shifted towards small angles as the amount of zirconium increased, indicating an enlargement of lattice constants, which can be attributed to the larger radius of Zr4+ ions. The phase transition temperature of VO2 film reduced with increasing Zr4+ doping amount. When the amount of Zr4+ increased up to 2wt%, the critical temperature of phase transition decreased to 50°C while the visible optical transmissivity almost remained the same.
Effects of Precipitators and Surfactants on the Preparation of Zirconia Nanopowders via Solvothermal Method

Abstract:Zirconia nanoparticles were synthesized via solvothermal method at reaction temperature of 180 degrees C, and the effects of precipitants and surfactants on the morphology and phase composition have been investigated. The morphology of as-prepared products was investigated by TEM and the phase composition was characterized by XRD. XRD results showed that the phase compositions of the products have significant difference among products obtained at various precipitants which were applied to prepare sediment precursor, such as KOH, NaOH and NH4OH products prepared by NaOH or KOH composed of either pure tetragonal zirconia or mixture of tetragonal zirconia and monoclinic zirconia. On the other hand, products prepared by NH4OH composed of mixture of tetragonal zirconia and amorphous state. Furthermore, XRD results show that the surfacants has not such obvious effect on phase composition, products composed of mixture of monoclinic zirconia and minor tetragonal zirconia. TEM images show that the dispersibility of products prepared by NaOH and NH4OH are superior than that prepared by KOH.
Uniform Growth of Colloidal Particles Via Internal Gelation Process

Abstract:Nanocrystalline materials with excellent properties are of great interest, but little is known about how to maintain grain size uniformity, which is essential for the reliability of nanomaterials. A fascinating question is whether it is possible to achieve a narrow size distribution of colloidal clusters in the gel. The nanocrystalline materials could be prepared by sintering the gel. Based on the above ideas, the growth mechanism of colloidal particles in the zirconium-based sol-gel transition is studied. The study showed that the primary zirconium hydroxide colloidal particles based on zirconium tetramers would aggregate into clusters of about 70 nm due to the Brownian motion. The clusters would form the Zr-O-Zr bonds and the three-dimensional gel network structure. The three-dimensional gel network could restrict the movement of free water molecules, making the zirconium sol instantly transform into the zirconium gel. The aging temperature would not affect the size of the colloidal clusters in the zirconium gel. Therefore, the uniform nanocrystalline zirconia could be prepared by sintering zirconium gel, which demonstrated the superiority of the internal gelation process for preparing nanocrystalline materials.

Abstract:ZrO2 micro beads are widely used as abrasive media in many areas. This paper introduces a sol-gel process for preparation of ZrO2 micro beads. First, zirconium nitrate solution and urea were mixed to prepare the sol, then the sol was converted to uniform droplets by vibrating dispersion method. The droplets were emitted from the nozzles into an ammonia solution. Along the way from the nozzle to ammonia solution, the liquid droplets first form spherical shape by their surface tension in air, and were then surface-hardened through ammonia gas. The microspheres complete gelation in the ammonia solution. The gel spheres were treated successively by aging, washing, drying, calcination and sintering to yield ZrO2 ceramic micro beads. Abstract:Ceria stabilized zirconia microspheres of about 150 microns were prepared by external gelation. The effect of vibration frequency on jet droplet dispersion and size uniformity was investigated. The diameter variances of microspheres prepared at frequency range of 1300 to 2300 Hz were calculated. The optimal frequency was found to be in good accordance with Raleigh’s theory. The obtained microspheres under optimal frequency were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The data showed their good size uniformity, smooth surface, compactness, and good CSZ phase.

Abstract:Amorphous ZrO2 exhibited broad application prospect as support materials. Herein, amorphous ZrO2 powders were prepared by a novel hydrothermal-assisted sol-gel route using zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl2⋅8H2O) as zirconium source and ammonia water (NH3⋅H2O) as precipitant. The effects of pH, zirconium source concentration, and hydrothermal treatment on the properties of ZrO2 powders were investigated. The phase structure and microstructure were also investigated. The proprieties of the powders obtained from hydrothermal-assisted sol-gel were compared with those of conventional sol-gel method. The particle size of sample obtained from hydrothermal-assisted sol-gel (80 nm) was smaller than that of conventional sol-gel (210 nm). And the purity was also higher (99.95 vs 98.56 wt%). These results demonstrated that the obtained ZrO2 powders have amorphous structure, uniform and small particle size, rough and loose surface, and high purity.

Abstract:This study demonstrates the use of a liquid-liquid phase reunion (PR) assisted sol-gel method to prepare hollow ZrO2 microspheres. The oil phase of trichloroethylene and isooctanol mixture (TCE/IO), aqueous phase of the ZrO2 precursor sol, and co-solvent phase propylene glycol monomethyl ether (PGME) were mixed and vigorously stirred to form an emulsion with dispersed sub-micron TCE/IO-rich droplets, which do not aggregate and are stable in the long term. This emulsion was further dispersed in pure TCE/IO to form multicore microdroplets, wherein the inner sub-micron droplets grew unstable and coalesced as one (PR), this led to the transformation of the microdroplets from being multicore to single core. The resultant core-shell structure was stable over the duration of the gelation and the aging processes. Subsequently, hollow ZrO2 microspheres with cavities that could be size controlled were obtained by sintering. The method presented in this study is scalable for achieving an increased productivity due to the self-assembly fabrication of the core-shell droplets by using the liquid-liquid PR method.
Gel-casting Preparation of Ceramic ZrO2 Composition Microspheres

Abstract:ZrO2 ceramic microspheres were preparaed by gel-casting.The influences of dispersant,initiator and vacuum deairing on the property of ZrO2 ceramic slurry were studied.The results show that the advantages of putting catalyst into organic oil is that the slurry can be kept for much longer time and the temperature of organic oil can be decreased from 90℃ to 50℃.Well-size-distributed ZrO2 microspheres can be realized by applying vibration dispersion technology.

Abstract:Ultrafine ZrO2 suspension with stable high solid loading was prepared, and ZrO2 ceramic materials with uniform structures were fabricated through gelcasting. Zeta potential of the ultrafine ZrO2 suspensions with A-type dispersant, triammonium citrate, and without dispersant was measured. The influencing factors on suspension flowability as the content of dispersant, pH value, solid loading, and milling time were studied in detail. And the optimum premixed solution/initiator (APS)/catalyst (TEMED) ratio for gelcasting was investigated. The results showed that A-type dispersant was suitable for dispersing of ultrafine ZrO2 particles in aqueous premixed solutions; the optimized content of dispersant was 2%-2.5% of ZrO2 volume; ZrO2 suspension displayed a minimum viscosity at pH 10.66; the upper limit of solid loading was 54 vol.%; and the appropriate milling time was 12 hours. When premixed solution/initiator (APS)/catalyst (TEMED) ratio was 100/1/0.5, ZrO2 suspension has a better gelcasting behavior.

Abstract:ZnO films were prepared by hydrogen peroxide（H2O2） treated sol-gel method and the effect of H2O2 on the sol properties and films was studied.By using this method,dense and continuous ZnO thin films with good crystallinity were prepared very simply.DTA,UV-Vis revealed the effect of H2O2 on the internal structure of the sol and film formation process,while the structure,surface morphotogy and PL spectra of the films were investigated by using X-ray diffraction,Scanning Electron Microscopy and Photoluminescence.It was suggested that addition of H2O2 results in new zinc complex compound ZnO2 to improve the film formation for sol-gel method.
