Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:In this paper we consider the problem of finding closed hypersurfaces with prescribed Weingarten curvature in a large class of Riemannian manifolds. Under some sufficient conditions, we obtain an existence result by establishing a priori estimates and standard degree theory for the admissible solutions to the prescribed curvature equation. We mainly show that the primary technique developed in Urbas, Wang and the second author’s work in 2004 is flexible enough to be used in more general ambient geometry.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of solutions to the centroaffine Minkowski problem, namely the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space R n + 1 \mathbb {R}^{n+1} with prescribed centroaffine curvature. This problem can be described as a variational problem with a functional resembling Kantorovich’s dual functional in optimal transportation. By using the Gauss curvature flow, we obtain new conditions for the existence of solutions to the problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the closed embedded hypersurface Sigma in the warped product manifold M = [0, (r) over bar) x N equipped with the metric g = dr(2) +lambda(r)(2)gN. We give some characterizations of slice {r} x N by the condition that Sigma has constant weighted higher-order mean curvatures (lambda ')(alpha)p(k), or constant weighted higher-order mean curvature ratio (lambda ')(alpha)p(k)/p(1), which generalize Brendle's [Constant mean curvature surfaces in warped product manifolds, Publ. Math. Inst. Hautes Etudes Sci. 117 (2013) 247-269] and Brendle-Eichmair's [Isoperimetric and Weingarten surfaces in the Schwarzschild manifold, J. Differential Geom. 94(3) (2013) 387-407] results. In particular, we show that the assumption convex of Brendle-Eichmair's result [Isoperimetric and Weingarten surfaces in the Schwarzschild manifold, J. Differential Geom. 94(3) (2013) 387-407] is unnecessary. Here p(k) is the kth normalized mean curvature of the hypersurface S. As a special case, we also give some characterizations of geodesic spheres in R-n, H-n and S-+(n), which generalize the classical Alexandrov-type results.

Abstract:We apply the ‘non-collapsing’ technique, previously applied by Brendle in the proof of the Lawson conjecture and by Andrews and Li in the proof of the Pinkall-Sterling conjecture, to higher dimensional hypersurfaces satisfying a linear relation between the principal curvatures, under the additional assumption that the hypersurface has two distinct principal curvatures at each point. As special cases, the result gives simple new proofs of results of Otsuki for minimal hypersurfaces, and of Li and Wei for hypersurfaces with vanishing mth mean curvature.

Abstract:We prove that the Koebe circle domain conjecture is equivalent to the Weyl type problem that every complete hyperbolic surface of genus zero is isometric to the boundary of the hyperbolic convex hull of the complement of a circle domain. It provides a new way to approach the Koebe's conjecture using convex geometry. Combining our result with the work of He-Schramm on the Koebe conjecture, one establishes that every simply connected non-compact polyhedral surface is discrete conformal to the complex plane or the open unit disk. Abstract:We show that every closed nonpositively curved surface satisfies Loewner's systolic inequality. The proof relies on a combination of the Gauss-Bonnet formula with an averaging argument using the invariance of the Liouville measure under the geodesic flow. This enables us to find a disk with large total curvature around its center yielding a large area.

Abstract:This article mainly contains two theorems. In the first theorem, we obtain an upper bound for the area of isoperimetric surface that encloses small volume in a compact 3-manifold of which the scalar curvature is not less than the scalar curvature of corresponding space form. We also indicate that the 3-manifold must have constant sectional curvature when the upper bound is attained. In the second theorem, we assume the closed 3-manifold has nonnegative Ricci curvature, finite fundamental group and its scalar curvature is not less than $6$. Under these conditions, if the area of a cetain isoperimetric surface lies in a specific interval, then we will have an upper bound estimate for the volume of the 3-manifold.
