Abstract:Oxidative coupling of primary amines to imines is achieved with high to moderate yields by refluxing suspensions of amines and water under one atmosphere dioxygen without any additives. Tandem acid-free aza Diels-Alder reactions for synthesis of N-alkyl-4-pyridones are also accomplished.

Abstract:Graphite oxide was found to be a highly efficient, reusable and cost-effective heterogeneous catalyst for the direct metal-free transformation of amines to afford the corresponding imines under mild and neat conditions with molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant. This method is simple, economic and environmentally benign, resulting in practical advantages for the convenient synthesis of imines and their derivatives.

Abstract:Most state-of-art transition-metal catalysts usually require organic ligands, which are essential for controlling the reactivity and selectivity of reactions catalyzed by transition metals. However, organic ligands often suffer from severe problems including cost, toxicity, air/moisture sensitivity, and being commercially unavailable. Herein, we show a simple, mild, and efficient aerobic oxidation procedure of amines using inorganic ligand-supported non-precious metal catalysts 1, (NH4)(n)[MMo6O18(OH)(6)] (M=Cu2+; Fe3+; Co3+; Ni2+; Zn2+, n=3 or 4), synthesized by a simple one-step method in water at 100 degrees C, demonstrating that the catalytic activity and selectivity can be significantly improved by changing the central metal atom. In the presence of these catalysts, the catalytic oxidation of primary and secondary amines, as well as the coupling of alcohols and amines, can smoothly proceed to afford various imines with O-2 (1atm) as the sole oxidant. In particular, the catalysts1 have transition-metal ion core, and the planar arrangement of the six Mo-VI centers at their highest oxidation states around the central heterometal can greatly enhance the Lewis acidity of catalytically active sites, and also enable the electrons in the center to delocalize onto the six edge-sharing MO6 units, in the same way as ligands in traditional organometallic complexes. The versatility of this methodology maybe opens a path to catalytic oxidation through inorganic ligand-coordinated metal catalysis.

Abstract:The synthesis of imines by oxidative self- or cross-condensation of primary amines has been achieved using iron(II) bromide as the catalyst. Abstract:A novel efficient procedure has been developed for the conjugate addition of amines to electron deficient alkenes. A series of metal oxides was synthesized for catalyzing the conjugate addition of amines and alkenes. After optimizing the reaction conditions, SrO was chosen as the most efficient catalyst for the reactions. The results show that the catalyst is very efficient for the conjugate addition of amines to electron deficient alkenes with the excellent yields in several minutes. Operational simplicity.. without need of any solvent, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, reusability, excellent chemoselectivity and applicability to large-scale reactions are the key features of this meth odology.

Abstract:Amines are transformed into the corresponding imines by environmentally benign catalytic oxidation reactions. Gaseous oxygen or hydrogen peroxide is used as the oxidant, and water is the only byproduct. When a vanadium complex is used as the catalyst in an ionic liquid, the amine oxidation successfully proceeds with recycling of the catalyst. Amine oxidation with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant in water is also attained by using copper(II) sulfate as catalyst. In addition, photoinduced oxidation of amines to imines is conducted by using oxygen as the oxidant in the presence of a zinc–chlorin complex as catalyst.

Abstract:Enhancing the selectivity of imines for the oxidative self-coupling of primary amines was found to be challenging in the heterogeneous catalysis. Three different manganese oxides (M-3, M-4, M-5) were synthesized by controlling the calcination temperature using a simple template-free oxalate route. The prepared manganese oxides were systematically characterized using XRD, N2 sorption, SEM, TEM, XPS, H2-TPR techniques. M-4 gave 96.2% selectivity of imine at 100% conversion of benzylamine, which was far more superior than other existing protocols. Mn3+/Mn4+ratio was found to affect the selectivity of the imines. The probable reaction pathway for amines oxidation catalyzed by manganese oxides was proposed for the first time.
