Abstract:Oxidative coupling of methylamines with an aminyl radical to construct amides was developed in the presence of an I-2/TBHP catalyst under acidic conditions via the two cleavages of the sp(3) C-N bond of aryl-methylamines and the sp(2) C-N bond of N-substituted formamides respectively. This transition-metal-free protocol provides a novel synthetic tool for the construction of N-substituted amides and a series of arylamides can be easily obtained with good yields.

Abstract:The development of catalysts for the amidation of tertiary amines with acyl chlorides through oxidative C–N bond cleavage is rather challenging. By employing iodine as the catalyst, a broad range of aromatic acyl chlorides and tertiary amines are efficiently converted into amides in good yields under mild conditions. A plausible mechanistic pathway is proposed for this transformation and is supported by appropriate control experiments. Abstract:The direct oxidative N-acylation reaction of primary amides with aryl/alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes was achieved in the presence of azolium salt C3 and an inorganic base using 3,3',5,5'-tetra-tert-butyldipherioquinone as the oxidant, thus providing an efficient approach for the synthesis of three types of imide compounds including N-sulfonylcarboxamides, N-sulfinylcarboxamides, and dicarboxyimides in good yield.

Abstract:We report a novel route for the preparation of primary α‐ketoamides via a highly efficient molecular iodine‐mediated oxidative amidation of aryl methyl ketones with ammonium carbamodithioate. A self‐sequenced iodination/nucleophilic substitution/Kornblum oxidation/amidation mechanism was proposed. In this mechanism, α‐thiocyanatoacetophenone is the key intermediate.

Abstract:An electrochemically promoted coupling of benzoxazoles and amines has been developed, leading directly to the formation of 2-aminobenzoxazoles. The chemistry utilizes catalytic quantities of a tetraalkylammonium halide redox catalyst and is carried out under constant current conditions in a simple undivided cell. The use of excess chemical oxidant or large amounts of supporting electrolyte is avoided. This greatly simplifies the workup and isolation process and leads to a reduction in waste.

Abstract:A class of oxalic diamides are found to be effective ligands for promoting CuI-catalyzed aryl amination with less reactive (hetero)aryl chlorides. The reaction proceeds at 120 °C with K3PO4 as the base in DMSO to afford a wide range of (hetero)aryl amines in good to excellent yields. The bis(N-aryl) substituted oxalamides are superior ligands to N-aryl-N′-alkyl substituted or bis(N-alkyl) substituted oxalamides. Both the electronic nature and the steric property of the aromatic rings in ligands are important for their efficiency.
