Abstract:The direct oxidative N-acylation reaction of primary amides with aryl/alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes was achieved in the presence of azolium salt C3 and an inorganic base using 3,3',5,5'-tetra-tert-butyldipherioquinone as the oxidant, thus providing an efficient approach for the synthesis of three types of imide compounds including N-sulfonylcarboxamides, N-sulfinylcarboxamides, and dicarboxyimides in good yield.

Abstract:N-Sulfenylimines are important molecules owing to their value in organic synthesis. Herein, we developed an electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling reaction between amines and thiols to synthesize N-sulfenylimines without a transition-metal catalyst and external oxidant. Various amines and thiols were compatible, generating the desired products in up to 86% yield.

Abstract:Herein, we reported an efficient and straightforward method to realize desaturated β-C(sp3)-H sulfonylation and phosphonylation of cyclic amines driven by electrochemistry using catalytic amounts of CP2Fe as the redox mediator. This protocol which had good functional group compatibility, provided the desired enaminyl sulfone and enaminyl phosphine oxide products with high chemo- and regio-selectivity under mild conditions. Several mechanistic studies have suggested that cyclic amines underwent multiple single-electron oxidation and deprotonation processes, followed by a capture step involving either a sulfonyl radical or a phosphonyl radical, ultimately leading to the desired products.

Abstract:Herein, we report a general method for the synthesis of NH-sulfoximines and NH-sulfonimidamides through direct electrochemical oxidative catalysis involving an iodoarene(I)/iodoarene(III) redox couple. In addition, dibenzothiazines can be synthesized from [1,1'-biaryl]-2-sulfides under standard conditions. Notably, only a catalytic amount of iodoarene is required for the generation in situ of an active hypervalent iodine catalyst, which avoids the need for an excess of a hypervalent iodine reagent relative to conventional approaches. Moreover, this protocol features broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance, delivering the target compounds with good-to-excellent yields even for a scale of more than 10 g.

Abstract:With formaldehyde as an atom-economical carbonyl synthon, the EtOH-catalyzed electrochemical multicomponent synthesis of various imidazolidine-fused sulfamidates was developed. A wide range of products were obtained in good to excellent yields under organic oxidant-free, energy-saving and mild conditions. The mechanistic study revealed that the in situ generated ethoxide played a crucial role in producing aminomethylene radicals at a lower voltage.

Abstract:An efficient protocol for the synthesis of sulfonamides via the electrochemical oxidative amination of sodium sulfinates has been developed. The chemistry proceeds in a simple undivided cell employing a substoichiometric amount of NH4I that serves both as a redox catalyst and a supporting electrolyte; in this manner additional conducting salt is not required. A wide range of substrates, including aliphatic or aromatic secondary and primary amines, as well as aqueous ammonia, proved to be compatible with the protocol. Scale-up was possible, thereby demonstrating the practicality of the approach. The electrolytic process avoids the utilization of external oxidants or corrosive molecular iodine and therefore represents an environmentally benign means by which to achieve the transformation.

Abstract:The first procedure to directly access amides from stable aldimine under potassium peroxymonosulfate (Oxone)/DMF system was reported. It involved a nucleophilic addition of imine with Oxone, a similar Baeyer‐Villiger rearrangement and a tautomerization process to afford amides in excellent yield. The present work opens up an efficient method to amides under mild conditions.

Abstract:A simple and efficient method to synthesize N-chloro-N-sulfonylsulfinamides by the direct aminoxidation of arenethiols under aqueous and mild conditions is disclosed, geminally installing the oxo and amino groups on the sulfur atom of arenethiols. The products have been primarily developed as sulfinylation reagents to convert Grignard reagents into sulfoxides, and as amination reagents to convert secondary amines into hydrazine derivatives.

Abstract:Alkylamines form the backbone of countless nitrogen-containing small molecules possessing desirable biological properties. Despite advances in amine synthesis through transition metal catalysis and photoredox chemistry, multicomponent reactions that leverage inexpensive materials to transform abundant chemical feedstocks into three-dimensional α-substituted alkylamines bearing complex substitution patterns remain scarce. Here, we report the design of a catalyst-free electroreductive manifold that merges amines, carbonyl compounds and carbon-based radical acceptors under ambient conditions without rigorous exclusion of air and moisture. Key to this aminative carbofunctionalization process is the chemoselective generation of nucleophilic α-amino radical intermediates that readily couple with electrophilic partners, providing straightforward access to architecturally intricate alkylamines and drug-like scaffolds which are inaccessible by conventional means.
