Abstract:The direct oxidative N-acylation reaction of primary amides with aryl/alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes was achieved in the presence of azolium salt C3 and an inorganic base using 3,3',5,5'-tetra-tert-butyldipherioquinone as the oxidant, thus providing an efficient approach for the synthesis of three types of imide compounds including N-sulfonylcarboxamides, N-sulfinylcarboxamides, and dicarboxyimides in good yield.

Abstract:The first procedure to directly access amides from stable aldimine under potassium peroxymonosulfate (Oxone)/DMF system was reported. It involved a nucleophilic addition of imine with Oxone, a similar Baeyer‐Villiger rearrangement and a tautomerization process to afford amides in excellent yield. The present work opens up an efficient method to amides under mild conditions.

Abstract:Oxidative coupling of methylamines with an aminyl radical to construct amides was developed in the presence of an I-2/TBHP catalyst under acidic conditions via the two cleavages of the sp(3) C-N bond of aryl-methylamines and the sp(2) C-N bond of N-substituted formamides respectively. This transition-metal-free protocol provides a novel synthetic tool for the construction of N-substituted amides and a series of arylamides can be easily obtained with good yields.

Abstract:Amides can be synthesized directly from aldehydes and amines in high yield using a catalyst. The reaction, involving aldehydes and amines, was carried out in a mixture containing choline chloride and aluminum nitrate as a solvent and a catalyst to produce amides. Such catalyst was far more effective compared to other current catalytic systems. The reaction consistently gave exceptionally remarkable results for various aldehyde and amine derivatives under the specified reaction conditions. This method offers several advantages, including easy separation of products, efficiency, environmentally safe nature of the solvent, and elimination of expensive and hazardous catalysts. These features emphasize the importance of such groundbreaking reactions. Due to the significant polar characteristics and insolubility of the resulting products in water, the addition of water into the reaction mixture facilitates the easy separation of the products from the reaction medium. Consequently, this particular ionic liquid method provides a simple route for the synthesis of these important compounds.

A self‐sequenced iodination/nucleophilic substitution/Kornblum oxidation/amidation mechanism was proposed. In this mechanism, α‐thiocyanatoacetophenone is the key intermediate.

Abstract:A sustainable, cyanide-free synthesis of alkyl nitriles via the aerobic oxidative deconstruction of unstrained cycloalkanones with ammonium salts has been developed. Using inexpensive and stable ammonium salts as the nitrogen source, a variety of alkyl nitriles containing a distal carbonyl group were obtained in good yields under visible-light-promoted iron catalysis. This protocol is characterized by mild conditions, abundant and environmentally benign materials, and high atom and step economy with minimal waste generation. The primary mechanism study revealed that 1O2 is likely to be involved in this reaction.

Abstract:Herein, we report a general method for the synthesis of NH-sulfoximines and NH-sulfonimidamides through direct electrochemical oxidative catalysis involving an iodoarene(I)/iodoarene(III) redox couple. In addition, dibenzothiazines can be synthesized from [1,1'-biaryl]-2-sulfides under standard conditions. Notably, only a catalytic amount of iodoarene is required for the generation in situ of an active hypervalent iodine catalyst, which avoids the need for an excess of a hypervalent iodine reagent relative to conventional approaches. Moreover, this protocol features broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance, delivering the target compounds with good-to-excellent yields even for a scale of more than 10 g.

Abstract:The ubiquity of amide bonds, present in natural products and common pharmaceuticals renders this functional group one of the most prevalent in organic chemistry. Despite its importance and a wide variety of existing methods for its formation, the latter still can be a challenge for classical activating reagents such as chloridating agents or carbodiimides. As the spent reagents often cannot be recycled, the development of more sustainable methods is highly desirable. Herein, we report an operationally simple and mild indirect electrochemical protocol to effect the condensation of carboxylic acids with amines, forming a wide variety of carboxamides.

Abstract:This study describes a catalyst-free α-acyloxylation of ketones and a KBr-mediated α-acyloxylation of cyclic ethers. These conversions are effectively mediated by hypervalent iodine(III) reagents serving dual roles as the oxidant and nucleophilic source. Consequently, esters are produced directly in moderate to excellent yields. The proposed method features good functional group compatibility, a broad substrate scope, and high synthetic efficiency and is remarkably environmentally friendly.

Abstract:The synthesis of amides is a long-term theme in chemistry and related areas. The use of readily available and cost-effective precursors for straightforward amide synthesis with atom economy under mild conditions is attractive yet challenging. Herein, we report the direct synthesis of amides from aldehydes and imines in a 100% atom-economical manner. The redox-neutral C–N bond-forming process was enabled by the dual catalysis of visible light and an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) at room temperature. This protocol features the unprecedented umpolung of imines to generate N-centered radicals. Mechanistic investigations reveal this reaction undergoes nontrivial radical–radical coupling between an N-centered radical and a C-centered radical to forge a C–N bond. Abstract:Herein, we divulge an efficient protocol for aerobic oxidation of alcohols with an inorganic-ligand supported iodine catalyst, (NH4)5[IMo6O24]. The catalyst system is compatible with a wide range of groups and exhibits high selectivity, and shows excellent stability and reusability, thus serving as a potentially greener alternative to the classical transformations.

Abstract:Given the natural abundance and industrial accessibility, inert amides have gained considerable attention in homologous amine synthesis and the development of novel catalytic strategies for their deoxygenative functionalization is highly desirable. Although organic electrosynthesis has become an uprising research area by virtue of its sustainability and atom economy, the combination of amide reduction with an electrochemical process in value-added amine synthesis is still undeveloped. Herein, a strategy merging iridium-catalyzed activation of amides with electrochemical radical generation to access deoxygenative arylation of secondary amides is developed. This methodology is featured by broad substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, and operational simplicity, giving corresponding benzylic amines with high efficiency. Notably, the successful application of electrochemical method in the deoxygenative functionalization of amides would provide an efficient strategy for quick access to value-added amines from inert amides.

Abstract:An efficient and highly selective method for the oxidative conversion of primary amines to the corresponding nitriles using trichloroisocyanuric acid in the presence of catalytic TEMPO under mild reaction conditions is described. Other functional groups such as C,C-double bonds, benzyloxy etc. were found to be unaffected under the reaction conditions. This procedure provides a new entry to the synthesis of various aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic nitriles in excellent yield.
