Abstract:A facile and transition-metal-free method was developed through merging the ring opening of benzoxazoles with secondary amines and N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) mediated oxidative cyclization toward the synthesis of 2-aminobenzoxazoles. NBS was selected as a powerful oxidant in the oxidative cyclization of ring-opening amidines to provide the desirable 2-aminobenzoxazoles in excellent yields (up to 94%).

Abstract:An electrochemically promoted coupling of benzoxazoles and amines has been developed, leading directly to the formation of 2-aminobenzoxazoles. The chemistry utilizes catalytic quantities of a tetraalkylammonium halide redox catalyst and is carried out under constant current conditions in a simple undivided cell. The use of excess chemical oxidant or large amounts of supporting electrolyte is avoided. This greatly simplifies the workup and isolation process and leads to a reduction in waste.

Abstract:The direct oxidative N-acylation reaction of primary amides with aryl/alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes was achieved in the presence of azolium salt C3 and an inorganic base using 3,3',5,5'-tetra-tert-butyldipherioquinone as the oxidant, thus providing an efficient approach for the synthesis of three types of imide compounds including N-sulfonylcarboxamides, N-sulfinylcarboxamides, and dicarboxyimides in good yield.

Abstract:An efficient and highly selective method for the oxidative conversion of primary amines to the corresponding nitriles using trichloroisocyanuric acid in the presence of catalytic TEMPO under mild reaction conditions is described. Other functional groups such as C,C-double bonds, benzyloxy etc. were found to be unaffected under the reaction conditions. This procedure provides a new entry to the synthesis of various aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic nitriles in excellent yield.

Abstract:A convenient and efficient copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of primary amines to aryl nitriles was described. Various benzylic and allylic amines were selectively oxidized to the corresponding nitriles in high yields using CuBr2/NMI as the catalyst and O2 as the oxidant. The oxidation reaction profiles monitored by 1H NMR disclosed the scenario of the reaction path as well as the role of the additives. The addition of NMI increased the rate of reaction and suppressed the hydrolysis and the deamination.

Abstract:A sustainable, cyanide-free synthesis of alkyl nitriles via the aerobic oxidative deconstruction of unstrained cycloalkanones with ammonium salts has been developed. Using inexpensive and stable ammonium salts as the nitrogen source, a variety of alkyl nitriles containing a distal carbonyl group were obtained in good yields under visible-light-promoted iron catalysis. This protocol is characterized by mild conditions, abundant and environmentally benign materials, and high atom and step economy with minimal waste generation. The primary mechanism study revealed that 1O2 is likely to be involved in this reaction.

Abstract:An iron-mediated oxidative cyanation of tertiary amines with benzoyl cyanide and molecular oxygen or TBHP has been achieved. This reaction furnished α-cyanated tertiary amines under mild reaction conditions in good to excellent yields (up to 94%) with great diversity (19 examples). The cascade process involves an iron-catalyzed oxidation of tertiary amine. Our protocol features safety cyanation reagent, acid-free conditions, inexpensive iron catalyst, and aerobic oxidation.

Abstract:Reported herein is a nitrene transfer reaction of nitrosobenzenes with N-acyloxyamides using FeCl24H2O as a cheap and commercially available catalyst, affording the N-acyl azoxy compounds with high functional-group compatibility. This facile transformation could be carried out smoothly under air atmosphere at the gram scale and its synthetic utility was demonstrated by efficient reduction and aryl transfer reactions of the product.

Abstract:The development of heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant compounds is always important for chemistry research. Here, we report a selective aerobic oxidation of aromatic and aliphatic amines to corresponding amides over a nanorod manganese oxide (NR-MnOx) catalyst. The kinetic studies reveal that the NR-MnOx catalyzed amine-to-amide reaction proceeds the oxidative dehydrogenation of the amines into nitriles, followed by hydrolysis of nitrile into amides. The NR-MnOx exhibits fast kinetics and high selectivities in these steps, as well as hinders the by-product formation. More importantly, the NR-MnOx catalyst is stable and reusable in the continuous recycle tests with water as a sole by-product, exhibiting superior sustainability and significant advancement to outperform the traditional amide production route in acidic or basic media with toxic by-products.
