Abstract:A series of iron complexes containing 2-imino-1,10-phenanthrolinyl ligands, LFeCl 2 (L=2-(ArN=CR)-1,10-phen), have been synthesized and sufficiently characterized by elemental and spectroscopic analysis as well as by X-ray diffraction analysis. Upon activation with methylaluminoxane (MAO), these iron(II) complexes showed high catalytic activities [up to 4.91×10 7 g mol 1 (Fe) h 1 ] for ethylene oligomerization. The distribution of oligomers produced follows Schluz-Flory rule with high selectivity of α-olefins. Both the steric and electronic effects of coordinative ligands affect the catalytic activity and the properties of the resultant products. The parameters of the reaction conditions were also investigated to explore the catalytic potentials of these complexes.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:Diiodoarenes (or dibromoarenes) reacted with diphenols, catalyzed by Cul/Fe(acac)(3) in the presence of K2CO3 in anhydrous DMSO at 110 degrees C for 7 days under nitrogen atmosphere, to afford macrocyclic aryl ethers effectively. To expand this methodology, a cyclic hepta(p-phenylene oxide) and cyclic deca(pphenylene oxide) were synthesized in one pot. Some macrocyclic aryl ethers showed strong fluorescence in acetone at 25 degrees C. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A metal free highly efficient and concise oxidative-coupling ether formation between 1,3-diarylallylic sp 3 C-H and aliphatic alcohols promoted by 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanoquinone (DDQ) is reported. This system is also applied to form C-S bonds from 1,3-diarylpropylene and thiols/thiophenols. The corresponding diarylallyl ethers/thioethers are obtained in good yields.

Abstract:Couplings between (hetero) aryl chlorides and phenols can be effectively promoted by CuI in combination with an N-aryl-N'-alkyl-substituted oxalamide ligand to proceed smoothly at 120 degrees C. For this process, N-aryl-N'-alkyl-substituted oxalamides are more effective ligands than bis(N-aryl)-substituted oxalamides. Awide range of electron-rich and electron-poor aryl and heteroaryl chlorides gave the corresponding coupling products in good yields. Satisfactory conversions were achieved with electron-rich phenols as well as a limited range of electron-poor phenols. Catalyst and ligand loadings as low as 1.5 mol% are sufficient for the scaled-up variants of some of these reactions.

Abstract:The CuS catalyzed coupling reactions of aryl halides and diaryl diselenides were accelerated by the addition of Fe powder in only 3–12h with good to excellent yields. SEM–EDX indicated that the in situ iron oxides as support against catalyst agglomeration accelerated the reaction. This catalyst system was also demonstrated recyclable without significant loss of catalytic activity.
