Abstract:A novel method for the organocatalytic syn diacetoxylation of alkenes has been developed using aryl iodides as efficient catalysts. A broad range of substrates, including electron-rich as well as electron-deficient alkenes, are smoothly transformed by the new procedure, furnishing the desired products in good to excellent yields with high diastereoselectivity (up to >19:1 dr).

Abstract:A highly chemoselective method is reported for the aroylation of simple diarylmethane derivatives via direct acyl C-C cleavage with 2-acyl-imidazolium salts under transition metal-free conditions. This represents a straightforward way to access a variety of sterically and electronically diverse 1,2,2-triarylethanones, a class of compounds with biological activities and various applications. Abstract:A new synthetic approach toward difunctionalization of alkenes has been developed under metal-free conditions. Various carboxylic acids and amines could react smoothly with alkenes to give dioxygenation and oxyamidation products, respectively. Abstract:Abstract Herein, a metal-free electrochemical dihydroxylation of unactivated alkenes is described. The transformation proceeds smoothly under mild conditions with a broad range of unactivated alkenes, providing valuable and versatile dihydroxylated products in moderate to good yields without the addition of costly transition metals and stoichiometric amounts of chemical oxidants. Moreover, this method can be applied to a range of natural products and pharmaceutical derivatives, further demonstrating its synthetic utility. Mechanistic studies have revealed that iodohydrin and epoxide intermediate are formed during the reaction process.

Abstract:An electrophotochemical dual metal-catalyzed protocol for decarboxylative arylation of simple aliphatic carboxylic acids with aryl halides is reported. The relative stabilities of catalytically active metal complexes simultaneously generated at anode and cathode are the key design elements for the success of this convergent paired electrolysis. This new electrophotocatalytic method is mild, robust, and most importantly, capable of accommodating simple primary aliphatic acids including acetic acid - ubiquitous and variegated structural motifs yet remain oddly challenging substrates - directly as native functional groups for decarboxylative C(sp2 )-C(sp3 ) bond formation.

Abstract:A simple, general and efficient method is developed for the metal-free iodination of arylboronic acids. The protocol uses very cheap molecular iodine as the halide source and potassium carbonate as the base. The method is highly tolerant of various functional groups present in the substrates. Importantly, the iodination strategy can also be applied very effectively in the one-pot, two-step synthesis of biaryl derivatives.
