Abstract:A new synthetic approach toward direct C-N bond formation through sp(3) C-H activation has been developed under metal-free conditions. Both primary and secondary benzylic C-H substrates could react smoothly with various amines to give only mono-amination products with good to excellent yields.

Abstract:Compounds containing aryl structures are important organic synthesis intermediates,which are widely present in a large family of natural products and bioactive molecules.In recent years,direct asymmetric functionalization of benzylic C(sp3)-H bond for the efficient construction of arene and hetero-arene motifs with high stereoselectivity has drawn widespread concern from chemical community.Among the various strategies,small molecule-catalyzed metal-free functionalization of benzylic C(sp3)-H bond represents a more challenging but promising transformations.This review is intended to summarize and discuss the most recent advances in this area.

Abstract:We report here the synthesis of a robust and highly porous Fe-phenanthroline-based metal-organic framework (MOF) and its application in catalyzing challenging inter-and intramolecular C-H amination reactions. For the intermolecular amination reactions, a FeBr2-metalated MOF selectively functionalized secondary benzylic and allylic C-H bonds. The intramolecular amination reactions utilizing organic azides as the nitrene source required the reduction of the FeBr2-metalated MOF with NaBHEt3 to generate the active catalyst. For both reactions, Fe or Zr leaching was less than 0.1%, and MOFs could be recycled and reused with no loss in catalytic activity. Furthermore, MOF catalysts were significantly more active than the corresponding homogeneous analogs. This work demonstrates the great potential of MOFs in generating highly active, recyclable, and reusable earth abundant metal catalysts for challenging organic transformations.

Abstract:A sustainable, cyanide-free synthesis of alkyl nitriles via the aerobic oxidative deconstruction of unstrained cycloalkanones with ammonium salts has been developed. Using inexpensive and stable ammonium salts as the nitrogen source, a variety of alkyl nitriles containing a distal carbonyl group were obtained in good yields under visible-light-promoted iron catalysis. This protocol is characterized by mild conditions, abundant and environmentally benign materials, and high atom and step economy with minimal waste generation. The primary mechanism study revealed that 1O2 is likely to be involved in this reaction.

Abstract:A novel efficient procedure has been developed for the conjugate addition of amines to electron deficient alkenes. A series of metal oxides was synthesized for catalyzing the conjugate addition of amines and alkenes. After optimizing the reaction conditions, SrO was chosen as the most efficient catalyst for the reactions. The results show that the catalyst is very efficient for the conjugate addition of amines to electron deficient alkenes with the excellent yields in several minutes. Operational simplicity.. without need of any solvent, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, reusability, excellent chemoselectivity and applicability to large-scale reactions are the key features of this meth odology.

Abstract:An efficient transition-metal-free intermolecular benzylic amidation with sulfonamides is described. Various valuable nitrogen-containing compounds, including amines, beta-chloro amine, amino alcohol, alpha-, beta-amino ester, and N-sulfonyl imine, are generated from the preferential N-functionalization of saturated benzylic C-H bonds. The potential of this reaction system also lies in the fact it can be developed into an environmentally friendly intermolecular amidation process.

Abstract:Utilizing 1,10-phenanthroline-type bifunctional ligands, an efficient Cu-catalyzed intermolecular site-selective remote C–H amination using cyclohexenone derivatives and anilines was realized. The amide group installed on the bifunctional ligand played a key role in stabilizing the N-centered radical generated in situ to realize C–N-directed formation. Meanwhile, a useful catalytic system for site-selective intermolecular remote γ-C–H amination to p-aminophenols and γ-aminated enones was established. This economical and practical approach using oxygen as the terminal oxidant was mild and environmentally friendly.

Abstract:Regioselective functionalization of C-H bonds has attracted the attention of chemists for recent years. However, transition metal is indispensable in most of C-H activation and often expensive. Here, we describe a metal-free intramolecular heteroarene C(sp2)−H amination from unprotected arylamine. Exposure of 2-(Pyridin-3-yl)aniline to posstium tert-butoxide was discovered to access N-heterocycles without additives, which unlocks new breakthrough. This process is applicable for the synthesis of a wide variety of N-heterocycles including natural products and bioactive compounds. Mechanistic studies have established that these reactions proceed through a SNArH process. Such a unique transformation opens a door toward weak reactivity arylamine regioselective intreamolecular C-H amination with heterocyclic compounds.
