Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:Phenylthio heterocyclic compounds are widely used because of their diverse biological activities and medicinal prospects. Here, a facile method was reported. An arylation of 1,3,4-oxa(thia)diazol-2-thiones reacting with arynes to build C(aryl)-S bonds in the presence of CsF had good yields and excellent selectivity. The reaction was completed in short time without using expensive reagents and catalysts. Present reaction system is an efficient procedure to process phenylthio heterocyclic compounds and reveals a sustainable method and better application prospects in future organic synthesis. Abstract:Herein, an efficient method for both aryl C(sp2)−S and C(sp)−C(sp) bond formation to construct both diaryl thioethers and 1,3‐diynes in excellent yield from spirocyclic λ3‐iodanes and benzenethiols under copper(I) catalysed conditions, has been developed. We proposed that a Ullmann reaction of benzenethiols with aryl iodonium intermediates form the diaryl thioethers, and a homocoupling of alkyne radical provided the 1,3‐diynes. This reaction takes fully advantage of the “waste” part of substrates.

Abstract:In this paper, aryldiazo sulfones are prepared from tandem sulfonylation/dehydrogenation reactions of arylhydrazines and sulfonyl chlorides. The transformations proceed well in the presence of catalytic CuSO4 center dot 5H(2)O, leading to aryldiazo sulfones in good to excellent yields. It is believed that this protocol represents a safe and convenient model for the synthesis of these versatile aryldiazo sulfones under mild conditions.

Abstract:Abstract: A highly efficient and simple cross-coupling reaction of N-aryl aluminum reagents with Naryl thiosuccinimides for the synthesis of diarylsulide derivatives using CuCl (20 mol%) as a catalyst is reported. Under the optimum reaction conditions, the coupling reaction between aryl aluminum reagents with different substituents and N-aryl thiosuccinimides with different substituents can be carried out smoothly with 18-94% isolated yields of diarylsulides. The method avoids the use of expensive transition metals, such as Pd, Ir, or Rh, phosphine ligands, and has the advantages of simple operation and high reaction efficiency. The structures of all the target compounds are confirmed by 1 HNMR and 13CNMR.

Abstract:Using cuprous iodide as the catalyst, aryl halides reacted with phenols to form diaryl ethers. The reaction conditions were optimized: aryl halides (1 equiv) reacted with phenol (1 equiv) at 130 degrees C in DMF for 16 h with cuprous iodide (10 mol %), cesium carbonate (2.5 equiv) as the base, and tetramethylenediamine (5 mol %) as the ligand. Under the optimum conditions, reaction conversion with time was summarized. The structural parameters of four types of aryl halides and the ionization energy of various C-X bond lengths in all aryl halides-CuI pi-complexes were calculated at the B3LYP/LANL2MB level by using the Gaussian 03 program and the corresponding Ullman reaction conversion was determined by HPLC. Results suggested that different relationships existed between reactivity and the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital E-LUMO, mean polarizability alpha and dipole moment mu. Both experimental and theoretical results, all displayed Ullman coupling reactivity order of the four aryl halides: fluorobenzene << chlorobenzene < bromobenzene < iodobenzene.

Abstract:Abstract A highly efficient method for the synthesis of 1,2,3-thiadiazoles has been developed by utilizing readily available tosylhydrazones and ammonium thiocyanate with ecofriendly EtOH as the solvent at room temperature. The reaction shows a wide scope of substrates and good functional-group tolerance. This protocol can be scaled up to a gram level and can be applied to coupling reactions with 4-(4-bromophenyl)-1,2,3-thiadiazole as the substrate.

Abstract:Herein, a copper-catalyzed 2,2,2-trifluoroethylthiolation reaction of aryl bromides and iodides with elemental sulfur, and 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-iodoethane is described. The reaction showed excellent functional group tolerance and allowed the synthesis of various substituted aryl 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl thioethers with good to excellent yields. This transformation constitutes a one-pot synthesis of 2,2,2-trifluoroethylthiolated compounds from inexpensive, readily available starting materials. Utility of the protocol was further demonstrated in the late-stage synthesis of the pirfenidone derivative. The copper thiolate species were prepared and proposed as key intermediates in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:Diiodoarenes (or dibromoarenes) reacted with diphenols, catalyzed by Cul/Fe(acac)(3) in the presence of K2CO3 in anhydrous DMSO at 110 degrees C for 7 days under nitrogen atmosphere, to afford macrocyclic aryl ethers effectively. To expand this methodology, a cyclic hepta(p-phenylene oxide) and cyclic deca(pphenylene oxide) were synthesized in one pot.
