Landscape Architecture in Terms of the Wholeness of Land

Abstract:The paper argues that landscape architecture should take land as a whole; the deep meaning of LA is land design, which differs from the traditional concept of landscape gardening. The current understanding of LA in China is limited to landscape gardening, which is harmful in facing the overwhelming process of urbanization and dramatic land change across the vast country. This paper therefore calls for a revolutionary rethinking of the profession and education of LA in China.
