Abstract:R. Kashaev and N. Reshetikhin introduced the notion of holonomy braiding extending V. Turaev’s homotopy braiding to describe the behavior of cyclic representations of the unrestricted quantum group U_q𝔰𝔩(2) at root of unity. In this paper, using quandles and biquandles we develop a general theory for Reshetikhin–Turaev ribbon type functor for tangles with quandle representations. Abstract:For a given group $G$, we construct an invariant of flat $G$-connections on 4-manifolds from a finite type involutory quasitriangular Hopf $G$-algebra. Hopf $G$-algebras are generalizations of Hopf algebras, equipped with gradings by $G$. In our construction, we color the dotted components of a Kirby diagram with elements of $G$ and employ the Hennings-type procedure. When $G$ is finite, we also define an invariant of 4-manifolds by summing the invariants over all flat $G$-connections.

Abstract:In our preceding papers we started considering the categories of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements, where G is a simple complex algebraic group. The braiding (or the commutativity constraint) in such categories satisfies the holonomy Yang-Baxter equation and it is this property which is essential for our construction of invariants of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements. In this paper, to any pair of irreducible modules over the quantized universal enveloping algebra of gl_2 at a root of unity, we associate a solution of the holonomy Yang-Baxter equation.

Abstract:Quantum invariants like the colored Jones polynomial are algebraic in nature but are conjectured to detect important information about the geometry of links. In this thesis we explore these connections using an enhanced version of the RT construction. Our invariants take the holonomy of a flat connection on the link complement as input, so we call them holonomy invariants. The case of trivial holonomy recovers the ordinary RT construction. We consider holonomy representations into $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb C)$, which are closely related to hyperbolic geometry. In order to define our invariants we consider a particular coordinate system on the space of representations closely related to the octahedral decomposition of the knot complement. We call the corresponding diagrams shaped tangles. Using shaped tangles we define a family of holonomy invariants $\mathrm{J}_N$ indexed by integers $N \ge 2$, which we call the nonabelian quantum dilogarithm. They can be interpreted as a noncommutative deformation of Kashaev's quantum dilogarithm (equivalently, the $N$th colored Jones polynomial at a $N$th root of unity) or of the ADO invariants, depending on the eigenvalues of the holonomy. Our construction depends in an essential way on representations of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at $q = \xi$ a primitive $2N$th root of unity. We show that $\mathrm{J}_N$ is defined up to a power of $\xi$ and does not depend on the gauge class of the holonomy. Afterwards we introduce a version of the quantum double construction for the holonomy invariants. We show that the quantum double $\mathrm{T}_N$ of the nonabelian dilogarithm $\mathrm{J}_N$ admits a canonical normalization with no phase ambiguity. Finally, we prove that in the case $N = 2$ the doubled invariant $\mathrm{T}_2$ computes the Reidemeister torsion of the link complement twisted by the holonomy representation.

Abstract:In this self-contained book, following Edward Witten, Maxim Kontsevich, Greg Kuperberg and Dylan Thurston, we define an invariant Z of framed links in rational homology 3-spheres, and we study its properties. The invariant Z, which is often called the perturbative expansion of the Chern-Simons theory, is valued in a graded space generated by Jacobi diagrams. It counts embeddings of this kind of unitrivalent graphs in the ambient manifold, in a sense that is explained in the book, using integrals over configuration spaces, or, in a dual way, algebraic intersections in the same configuration spaces. When the ambient manifold is the standard 3-sphere, the invariant Z is a universal Vassiliev link invariant studied by many authors including Guadagnini, Martellini and Mintchev, Bar-Natan, Bott and Taubes, Altschüler and Freidel, Thurston and Poirier... This book contains a more flexible definition of this invariant. We extend Z to a functor on a category of framed tangles in rational homology cylinders and we describe the behaviour of this functor under various operations including some cabling operations. We also compute iterated derivatives of our extended invariant with respect to the discrete derivatives associated to the main theories of finite type invariants. Together with recent results of Massuyeau and Moussard, our computations imply that the restriction of Z to rational homology 3-spheres (equipped with empty links) contains the same information as the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki LMO invariant for these manifolds. They also imply that the degree one part of Z is the Casson-Walker invariant.

Abstract:In this short Survey we revisit the subject of local, identity-tangent diffeomorphisms of $\doC$ and their analytic invariants, under two viewpoints: that of explicit expansions, which necessarily involve multitangents and multizetas; and that of effective computation. Along the way, we stress the difference between the \textup{collectors} (pre-invariant but of one piece) and the \textup{connectors} (invariant but mutually unrelated). We also attempt to streamline the nomenclature and notations.

Abstract:Just as knots and links can be algebraically described as certain morphisms in the category of tangles in 3 dimensions, compact surfaces smoothly embedded in R^4 can be described as certain 2-morphisms in the 2-category of `2-tangles in 4 dimensions'. Using the work of Carter, Rieger and Saito, we prove that this 2-category is the `free semistrict braided monoidal 2-category with duals on one unframed self-dual object'. By this universal property, any unframed self-dual object in a braided monoidal 2-category with duals determines an invariant of 2-tangles in 4 dimensions.

Abstract:For a general affine connection with parallel torsion and curvature, we show that a post-Lie algebra structure exists on its space of vector fields, generalizing previous results for flat connections. However, for non-flat connections, the vector fields alone are not enough, as the presence of curvature also necessitates that we include endomorphisms corresponding to infinitesimal actions of the holonomy group. We give details on the universal Lie algebra of this post-Lie algebra and give applications for solving differential equations on manifolds.

Abstract:We characterize the virtual link invariants that can be described as partition function of a real-valued R-matrix, by being weakly reflection positive. Weak reflection positivity is defined in terms of joining virtual link diagrams, which is a specialization of joining virtual link diagram tangles. Basic techniques are the first fundamental theorem of invariant theory, the Hanlon-Wales theorem on the decomposition of Brauer algebras, and the Procesi-Schwarz theorem on inequalities for closed orbits.

Abstract:In 2018, Vladimir Fock and the author introduced a geometric structure on surfaces, called higher complex structure, whose moduli space shares several properties with Hitchin's component. In this paper, we establish various links between flat connections and higher complex structures. In particular, we study a certain class of connections on a bundle equipped with a line subbundle $L$, which we call $L$-parabolic. The curvature of these connections is of rank 1. A certain family of $L$-parabolic connections is parametrized by the data of a higher complex structure and a cotangent variation. The family of connections being flat implies the compatibility condition of the cotangent variation. Higher diffeomorphisms are realized by the gauge transformation induced by changing $L$. Constructing flat families of connections of this kind is linked to Toda integrable systems.

An Invariant for Transverse Coassociative 4-Folds

Abstract:We define a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-valued invariant for pairs of transverse coassociative submanifolds of a $G_2$-manifold when they are simply-connected and spin. We prove that there is a canonical generalized connected sum of two transverse coassociatives whose diffeomorphism type is determined by this invariant. When one of these coassociatives is graphical over the other, we show that this invariant is analogous to the invariant associated to the zero-circles of a near-symplectic form on an oriented 4-manifold.

Abstract:For $\mathfrak{g}$ a simple Lie algebra and $G$ its adjoint group, the Chevalley map and work of Coxeter gives a concrete description of the algebra of $G$-invariant polynomials on $\mathfrak{g}$ in terms of traces over various representations. Here we provide an extension of this description to $G$-invariant tensors on $\mathfrak{g}$, although restricted to only providing generators and only for the classical Lie algebras.

Abstract:We study invariants defined by count of charged, elliptic $J$-holomorphic curves in locally conformally symplectic manifolds. We use this to define $\mathbb{Q} $-valued deformation invariants of certain complete Riemann-Finlser manifolds and their isometries and this is used to find some new phenomena in Riemann-Finlser geometry. In contact geometry this Gromov-Witten theory is used to study fixed Reeb strings of strict contactomorphisms. Along the way, we state an analogue of the Weinstein conjecture in lcs geometry, directly extending the Weinstein conjecture, and discuss various partial verifications. A counterexample for a stronger, also natural form of this conjecture is given.
