Quantum holonomic link invariants derived from stated skein algebras

Abstract:We define invariants for a framed link equipped with a SL2 local system in its complement and additional combinatorial data based on the theory of representations of stated skein algebras at roots of unity of punctured bigons and the geometric interpretation of their centers. The gauge invariance of the link invariant is derived from De Concini-Kac quantum coadjoint action lifted at the level of stated skein algebras. A key feature is the fact that the Drinfeld double of the quantum Borel algebra admits a natural interpretation as the reduced stated skein algebra of a once-punctured bigon from which we deduce a relation between our link invariants and quantum group constructions of Blanchet-Geer-Patureau Mirand-Reshetikhin. Using Bonahon-Wong quantum trace, we also relate our construction to quantum hyperbolic geometry, hence to Kashaev and Baseilhac-Benedetti constructions. We deduce from this relation explicit formulas for the R-matrices, which permit to compute the link invariants explicitly. In particular, we derive an alternative conceptual proof of the Murakami-Murakami relation between the Kashaev invariant and the colored Jones polynomials.

Abstract:Quantum invariants like the colored Jones polynomial are algebraic in nature but are conjectured to detect important information about the geometry of links. In this thesis we explore these connections using an enhanced version of the RT construction. Our invariants take the holonomy of a flat connection on the link complement as input, so we call them holonomy invariants. The case of trivial holonomy recovers the ordinary RT construction. We consider holonomy representations into $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb C)$, which are closely related to hyperbolic geometry. In order to define our invariants we consider a particular coordinate system on the space of representations closely related to the octahedral decomposition of the knot complement. We call the corresponding diagrams shaped tangles. Using shaped tangles we define a family of holonomy invariants $\mathrm{J}_N$ indexed by integers $N \ge 2$, which we call the nonabelian quantum dilogarithm. They can be interpreted as a noncommutative deformation of Kashaev's quantum dilogarithm (equivalently, the $N$th colored Jones polynomial at a $N$th root of unity) or of the ADO invariants, depending on the eigenvalues of the holonomy. Our construction depends in an essential way on representations of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at $q = \xi$ a primitive $2N$th root of unity. We show that $\mathrm{J}_N$ is defined up to a power of $\xi$ and does not depend on the gauge class of the holonomy. Afterwards we introduce a version of the quantum double construction for the holonomy invariants. We show that the quantum double $\mathrm{T}_N$ of the nonabelian dilogarithm $\mathrm{J}_N$ admits a canonical normalization with no phase ambiguity. Finally, we prove that in the case $N = 2$ the doubled invariant $\mathrm{T}_2$ computes the Reidemeister torsion of the link complement twisted by the holonomy representation.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to construct new topological invariants of compact oriented 3-manifolds and of framed links in such manifolds. Our invariant of (a link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold is a sequence of complex numbers parametrized by complex roots of 1. For a framed link in S 3 the terms of the sequence are equale to the values of the (suitably parametrized) Jones polynomial of the link in the corresponding roots of 1. Thus, for links in S 3 our invariants are essentially equivalent to the Jones polynomial [Jo]. Note that in general we do not know if our invariant of (a framed link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold may be described as the sequence of values of a certain polynomial in the roots of unity. In the case of manifolds with boundary our invariant is a (sequence of) finite dimensional complex linear operators. This produces from each root of unity q a 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory (see [A1]). In particular, for each q we associate with every closed oriented surface a finite dimensional complex linear space. We construct a projective action of the modular group of the surface in this space. Our constructions have been partially inspired by the ideas of E. Witten [Wi] who considered quantum field theory defined by the nonabelian ChernSimons action and applied it to study the topology of 3-manifolds. Using this quantum field theory, Witten has defined (on the physical level of rigor) certain invariants of 3-manifolds and links in 3-manifolds. The constructions of Witten strongly suggested that there may exist a parallel mathematical theory. We believe that our invariants may be viewed as a mathematical realization of the Witten's program.
Invariants for links and 3-manifolds from the modular category with two simple objects

Abstract:We describe the simplest non-trivial modular category $\mathfrak{E}$ with two simple objects. Then we extract from this category the invariant for non-oriented links in 3-sphere and two invariants for 3-manifolds: the complex-valued Turaev - Reshetikhin type invariant $tr_{\varepsilon}$ and the real-valued Turaev - Viro type invariant $tv_{\varepsilon}$. These two invariants for 3-manifolds are related by the equality $|tr_{\varepsilon}|^2\cdot (\varepsilon + 2) = tv_{\varepsilon}$, where $\varepsilon$ is a root of the equation $\varepsilon^2 = \varepsilon + 1$. Finally, we show that $tv_{\varepsilon}$ coincides with the well-known $\varepsilon$ invariant for 3-manifolds.

Abstract:We characterize the virtual link invariants that can be described as partition function of a real-valued R-matrix, by being weakly reflection positive. Weak reflection positivity is defined in terms of joining virtual link diagrams, which is a specialization of joining virtual link diagram tangles. Basic techniques are the first fundamental theorem of invariant theory, the Hanlon-Wales theorem on the decomposition of Brauer algebras, and the Procesi-Schwarz theorem on inequalities for closed orbits.

Abstract:In our preceding papers we started considering the categories of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements, where G is a simple complex algebraic group. The braiding (or the commutativity constraint) in such categories satisfies the holonomy Yang-Baxter equation and it is this property which is essential for our construction of invariants of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements. In this paper, to any pair of irreducible modules over the quantized universal enveloping algebra of gl_2 at a root of unity, we associate a solution of the holonomy Yang-Baxter equation.

Abstract:Under a weight conservation condition when q is not a root of unity, Yang-Baxter relations are solved without the assumption that the upper-left triangle of each sub-block of the S matrix of the braid group representation (BGR) vanishes. A general form of BGR associated with B(n), C(n) and D(n) is obtained and shown to construct link invariants. The many-to-one correspondence between BGRs and link invariants is given.

Abstract:There is a generalization of Heegaard-Floer theory from ${\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$ to other Lie (super)algebras $^L{\mathfrak{g}}$. The corresponding category of A-branes is solvable explicitly and categorifies quantum $U_q(^L{\mathfrak{g}})$ link invariants. The theory was discovered in \cite{A1,A2}, using homological mirror symmetry. It has novel features, including equivariance and, if $^L{\mathfrak{g}} \neq {\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$, coefficients in categories. In this paper, we describe the theory and how it is solved in detail in the two simplest cases: the ${\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$ theory itself, categorifying the Alexander polynomial, and the ${\mathfrak{su}}_{2}$ theory, categorifying the Jones polynomial. Our approach to solving the theory is new, even in the familiar ${\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$ case.

Abstract:In this self-contained book, following Edward Witten, Maxim Kontsevich, Greg Kuperberg and Dylan Thurston, we define an invariant Z of framed links in rational homology 3-spheres, and we study its properties. The invariant Z, which is often called the perturbative expansion of the Chern-Simons theory, is valued in a graded space generated by Jacobi diagrams. It counts embeddings of this kind of unitrivalent graphs in the ambient manifold, in a sense that is explained in the book, using integrals over configuration spaces, or, in a dual way, algebraic intersections in the same configuration spaces. When the ambient manifold is the standard 3-sphere, the invariant Z is a universal Vassiliev link invariant studied by many authors including Guadagnini, Martellini and Mintchev, Bar-Natan, Bott and Taubes, Altschüler and Freidel, Thurston and Poirier... This book contains a more flexible definition of this invariant. We extend Z to a functor on a category of framed tangles in rational homology cylinders and we describe the behaviour of this functor under various operations including some cabling operations. We also compute iterated derivatives of our extended invariant with respect to the discrete derivatives associated to the main theories of finite type invariants. Together with recent results of Massuyeau and Moussard, our computations imply that the restriction of Z to rational homology 3-spheres (equipped with empty links) contains the same information as the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki LMO invariant for these manifolds. They also imply that the degree one part of Z is the Casson-Walker invariant.

Abstract:M. Khovanov and L. Rozansky gave a categorification of the HOMFLY-PT polynomial. This study is a generalization of the Khovanov-Rozansky homology. We define a homology associated to the quantum $(sl_n,\land V_n)$ link invariant, where $\land V_n$ is the set of the fundamental representations of the quantum group of $sl_n$. In the case of a [1,k]-colored link diagram, we prove that its homology is a link invariant. In the case of an [i,j]-colored link diagram, we define a normalized Poincare polynomial of its homology and prove the polynomial is a link invariant.

Abstract:For a given group $G$, we construct an invariant of flat $G$-connections on 4-manifolds from a finite type involutory quasitriangular Hopf $G$-algebra. Hopf $G$-algebras are generalizations of Hopf algebras, equipped with gradings by $G$. In our construction, we color the dotted components of a Kirby diagram with elements of $G$ and employ the Hennings-type procedure. When $G$ is finite, we also define an invariant of 4-manifolds by summing the invariants over all flat $G$-connections.

Abstract:We extend a theorem, originally formulated by Blattner–Cohen–Montgomery for crossed products arising from Hopf algebras weakly acting on noncommutative algebras, to the realm of left Hopf algebroids. Our main motivation is an application to universal enveloping algebras of projective Lie–Rinehart algebras: for any given curved (resp. flat) connection, that is, a linear (resp. Lie–Rinehart) splitting of a Lie–Rinehart algebra extension, we provide a crossed (resp. smash) product decomposition of the associated universal enveloping algebra, and vice versa. As a geometric example, we describe the associative algebra generated by the invariant vector fields on the total space of a principal bundle as a crossed product of the algebra generated by the vertical ones and the algebra of differential operators on the base.

Abstract:We construct a new invariant of singular links through representations of the singular braid monoid into the two parameters bt-algebra. Additionally, we recover this invariant by using the approach of Paris and Rabenda. Hence, we introduce the so called two parameter Singular bt-algebra. Finally, we provide the skein relations that define our invariant, and we prove that this invariant is more powerful than previous invariants of singular links in literature.
