Abstract:Let G be a simple complex algebraic group. By using a notion of a G-category we define invariants of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements. We also show that quantized universal enveloping algebras at roots of unity provide examples of G-categories.

Abstract:In our preceding papers we started considering the categories of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements, where G is a simple complex algebraic group. The braiding (or the commutativity constraint) in such categories satisfies the holonomy Yang-Baxter equation and it is this property which is essential for our construction of invariants of tangles with flat G-connections in their complements. In this paper, to any pair of irreducible modules over the quantized universal enveloping algebra of gl_2 at a root of unity, we associate a solution of the holonomy Yang-Baxter equation.

Turaev’s homotopy braiding to describe the behavior of cyclic representations of the unrestricted quantum group U_q𝔰𝔩(2) at root of unity. Abstract:For a given group $G$, we construct an invariant of flat $G$-connections on 4-manifolds from a finite type involutory quasitriangular Hopf $G$-algebra. Hopf $G$-algebras are generalizations of Hopf algebras, equipped with gradings by $G$. In our construction, we color the dotted components of a Kirby diagram with elements of $G$ and employ the Hennings-type procedure. When $G$ is finite, we also define an invariant of 4-manifolds by summing the invariants over all flat $G$-connections.

Abstract:We introduce an $(\infty,1)$-category ${\sf Bord}_1^{\sf fr}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the morphisms in which are framed tangles in $\mathbb{R}^n\times \mathbb{D}^1$. We prove that ${\sf Bord}_1^{\sf fr}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ has the universal mapping out property of the 1-dimensional Tangle Hypothesis of Baez--Dolan and Hopkins--Lurie: it is the rigid $\mathcal{E}_n$-monoidal $(\infty,1)$-category freely generated by a single object. Applying this theorem to a dualizable object of a braided monoidal $(\infty,1)$-category gives link invariants, generalizing the Reshetikhin--Turaev invariants.

Abstract:Just as knots and links can be algebraically described as certain morphisms in the category of tangles in 3 dimensions, compact surfaces smoothly embedded in R^4 can be described as certain 2-morphisms in the 2-category of `2-tangles in 4 dimensions'. Using the work of Carter, Rieger and Saito, we prove that this 2-category is the `free semistrict braided monoidal 2-category with duals on one unframed self-dual object'. By this universal property, any unframed self-dual object in a braided monoidal 2-category with duals determines an invariant of 2-tangles in 4 dimensions.

Abstract:Virtual knot theory, introduced by Kauffman, is a generalization of classical knot theory of interest because its finite-type invariant theory is potentially a topological interpretation of Etingof and Kazhdan's theory of quantization of Lie bi-algebras. Classical knots inject into virtual knots, and flat virtual knots is the quotient of virtual knots which equates the real positive and negative crossings, and in this sense is complementary to classical knot theory within virtual knot theory. We completely classify flat virtual tangles with no closed components (pure tangles). This classification can be used as an invariant on virtual pure tangles and virtual braids.

Knot Categorification from Mirror Symmetry, Part I: Coherent Sheaves

Abstract:We derive two geometric approaches to categorification of quantum invariants of links associated to an arbitrary compact simple Lie group $^L{G}$. In part I, we describe the first approach, based on an equivariant derived category of coherent sheaves on ${\cal X}$, the moduli space of singular $G$-monopoles, where $G$ is related to $^LG$ by Langlands duality. In part II, we describe the second approach, based on the derived category of a Fukaya-Seidel category of a Calabi-Yau $Y$ with potential $W$. The two approaches are related by a version of mirror symmetry, which plays a crucial role in the story. In part III, we explain the string theory origin of these results, and the relation to an approach due to Witten.

Abstract:In this paper, we study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. Our aim is to construct knot homologies categorifying Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of knots for arbitrary representations, which will be done in a follow-up paper. We consider an algebraic construction of these categories, via an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the quiver Hecke algebra. One of our primary results is that these categories coincide when both are defined. We also investigate finer structure of these categories. Like many similar representation-theoretic categories, they are standardly stratified and satisfy a double centralizer property with respect to their self-dual modules. The standard modules of the stratification play an important role, as Vermas do in more classical representation theory, as test objects for functors. The existence of these representations has consequences for the structure of previously studied categorifications; it allows us to prove the non-degeneracy of Khovanov and Lauda's 2-category (that its Hom spaces have the expected dimension) in all symmetrizable types, and that the cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras are symmetric Frobenius.

Abstract:For a d-Calabi-Yau triangulated category C with a d-cluster tilting subcategory T, the decomposition of C is determined by the decomposition of T satisfying 'vanishing condition' of negative extension groups, namely, C=circle plus C-i is an element of I(i), where C-i, i is an element of I, are triangulated subcategories, if and only if T=circle plus T-i is an element of I(i), where T-i, i is an element of I, are subcategories with Hom(C)(T-i[t], T-j)=0, for all 0 < t < d-2 and i not equal j. This induces that for any two cluster tilting objects T and T' in a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category C, the Gabriel quiver of the endomorphism algebra End(C)T is connected if and only if so is that of End(C)T'. As an application, we prove that the indecomposable 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories with cluster tilting objects have no non-trivial t-structures and no non-trivial co-t-structures. This allows us to give a classification of torsion pairs in those triangulated categories, and to determine further the hearts of torsion pairs in the sense of Nakaoka, which are equivalent to the module categories over the endomorphism algebras of the cores of the torsion pairs. We also discuss the relationship between mutations of torsion pairs and mutations of cluster tilting objects.

Abstract:We construct knot invariants categorifying the quantum knot variants for all representations of quantum groups. We show that these invariants coincide with previous invariants defined by Khovanov for sl_2 and sl_3 and by Mazorchuk-Stroppel and Sussan for sl_n. Our technique is to study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. These are the representation categories of certain finite dimensional algebras with an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the KLR algebra. When the Lie algebra under consideration is $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, we show that these categories agree with certain subcategories of parabolic category O for gl_k. We also investigate the finer structure of these categories: they are standardly stratified and satisfy a double centralizer property with respect to their self-dual modules. The standard modules of the stratification play an important role as test objects for functors, as Vermas do in more classical representation theory. The existence of these representations has consequences for the structure of previously studied categorifications. It allows us to prove the non-degeneracy of Khovanov and Lauda's 2-category (that its Hom spaces have the expected dimension) in all symmetrizable types, and that the cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras are symmetric Frobenius. In work of Reshetikhin and Turaev, the braiding and (co)evaluation maps between representations of quantum groups are used to define polynomial knot invariants. We show that the categorifications of tensor products are related by functors categorifying these maps, which allow the construction of bigraded knot homologies whose graded Euler characteristics are the original polynomial knot invariants.

Abstract:The inclusion of the unit in a braided tensor category $\mathcal{V}$ induces a 1-morphism in the Morita 4-category of braided tensor categories $BrTens$. We give criteria for the dualizability of this morphism. When $\mathcal{V}$ is a semisimple (resp. non-semisimple) modular category, we show that the unit inclusion induces under the Cobordism Hypothesis a (resp. non-compact) relative 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory. Following Jordan-Safronov, we conjecture that these relative field theories together with their bulk theories recover Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev (resp. De Renzi-Gainutdinov-Geer-Patureau-Mirand-Runkel) theories, in a fully extended setting. In particular, we argue that these theories can be obtained by the Cobordism Hypothesis.

Invariants for links and 3-manifolds from the modular category with two simple objects

Abstract:We describe the simplest non-trivial modular category $\mathfrak{E}$ with two simple objects. Then we extract from this category the invariant for non-oriented links in 3-sphere and two invariants for 3-manifolds: the complex-valued Turaev - Reshetikhin type invariant $tr_{\varepsilon}$ and the real-valued Turaev - Viro type invariant $tv_{\varepsilon}$. These two invariants for 3-manifolds are related by the equality $|tr_{\varepsilon}|^2\cdot (\varepsilon + 2) = tv_{\varepsilon}$, where $\varepsilon$ is a root of the equation $\varepsilon^2 = \varepsilon + 1$. Finally, we show that $tv_{\varepsilon}$ coincides with the well-known $\varepsilon$ invariant for 3-manifolds.

Abstract:There is an abstract notion of connection in any tangent category. In this paper, we show that when applied to the tangent category of affine schemes, this recreates the classical notion of a connection on a module (and similarly, in the tangent category of schemes, this recreates the notion of connection on a quasi-coherent sheaf of modules). By contrast, we also show that in the tangent category of algebras, there are no non-trivial connections.

Abstract:For $\mathfrak{g}$ a simple Lie algebra and $G$ its adjoint group, the Chevalley map and work of Coxeter gives a concrete description of the algebra of $G$-invariant polynomials on $\mathfrak{g}$ in terms of traces over various representations. Here we provide an extension of this description to $G$-invariant tensors on $\mathfrak{g}$, although restricted to only providing generators and only for the classical Lie algebras.

Abstract:An almost Abelian group is a non-Abelian Lie group with a codimension 1 Abelian subgroup. This paper investigates invariant Hermitian and Kähler structures on connected complex almost Abelian groups. We find explicit formulas for the left and right Haar measures, the modular function, and left and right generator vector fields on simply connected complex almost Abelian groups. From the generator fields, we obtain invariant vector and tensor field frames, allowing us to find an explicit form for all invariant tensor fields. Namely, all such invariant tensor fields have constant coefficients in the invariant frame. From this, we classify all invariant Hermitian forms on complex simply connected almost Abelian groups, and we prove the nonexistence of invariant Kähler forms on all such groups. Via constructions involving the pullback of the quotient map, we extend the explicit description of invariant Hermitian structures and the nonexistence of Kähler structures to connected almost Abelian groups.
