Abstract:A 3-dimensional Riemannian manifold equipped with a tensor structure of type $(1,1)$, whose fourth power is the identity, is considered. This structure acts as an isometry with respect to the metric. A Riemannian almost product manifold associated with such a manifold is also studied. It turns out, that the almost product manifold belongs to the class of locally conformal Riemannian product manifolds of the Naveira classification. Conditions for the additional structures of the manifolds to be parallel with respect to the Levi-Civita connection of the metric were found. Classes of almost Einstein manifolds and Einstein manifolds are determined and some of their curvature properties are obtained. As examples of these manifolds, a hypersurface is considered.

Abstract:A natural connection, determined by a property of its torsion tensor, is defined and it is called the second natural connection on Riemannian $\Pi$-manifold, i.e. the uniqueness of this connection is proved and a necessary and sufficient condition for coincidence with the first natural connection on the considered manifolds is found. The form of the torsion tensor of the second natural connection is obtained in the classes of the Riemannian $\Pi$-manifolds in which it differs from the first natural connection. An explicit example of dimension 5 is given in support of the proven assertions.

Abstract:The object of study in the present dissertation are some topics in differential geometry of smooth manifolds with additional tensor structures and metrics of Norden type. There are considered four cases depending on the dimension of the manifold: 2n, 2n + 1, 4n and 4n + 3. The studied tensor structures, which are counterparts in the different related dimensions, are the almost complex/contact/hypercomplex structure and the almost contact 3-structure. The considered metric on the 2n-dimensional case is the Norden metric, and the metrics in the other three cases are generated by it. The purpose of the dissertation is to carry out the following: 1. Further investigations of almost complex manifolds with Norden metric including studying of natural connections with conditions for their torsion and invariant tensors under the twin interchange of Norden metrics. 2. Further investigations of almost contact manifolds with B-metric including studying of natural connections with conditions for their torsion and associated Schouten-van Kampen connections as well as a classification of affine connections. 3. Introducing and studying of Sasaki-like almost contact complex Riemannian manifolds. 4. Further investigations of almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian-Norden metrics including studying of integrable structures of the considered type on 4-dimensional Lie algebra and tangent bundles with the complete lift of the base metric; introducing of associated Nijenhuis tensors in relation with natural connections having totally skew-symmetric torsion as well as quaternionic Kähler manifolds with Hermitian-Norden metrics. 5. Introducing and studying of manifolds with almost contact 3-structures and metrics of Hermitian-Norden type and, in particular, associated Nijenhuis tensors and their relationship with natural connections having totally skew-symmetric torsion.

Abstract:Let $(M,\nabla)$ be an $n$-dimensional differentiable manifold with a torsion-free linear connection and $T^{*}M$ its cotangent bundle. In this context we study some properties of the natural Riemann extension (M. Sekizawa (1987), O. Kowalski and M. Sekizawa (2011)) on the cotangent bundle $T^{*}M$. First, we give an alternative definition of the natural Riemann extension with respect to horizontal and vertical lifts. Secondly, we investigate metric connection for the natural Riemann extension. Finally, we present geodesics on the cotangent bundle $T^{*}M$ endowed with the natural Riemann extension.

Abstract:This paper presents the results concerning a space of invariants for second type almost geodesic mappings. After discussing the general formulas of invariants for mappings of symmetric affine connection spaces, based on these formulas, invariants for second type almost geodesic mappings of symmetric affine connection spaces and Riemannian spaces are obtained, as well as their mutual connection. Also, one invariant of Thomas type and two invariants of Weyl type for almost geodesic mappings of the second type were attained.

Invariant distributions and the transport twistor space of closed surfaces

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study transport equations on the unit tangent bundle of closed oriented Riemannian surfaces and to connect these to the transport twistor space of the surface (a complex surface naturally tailored to the geodesic vector field). We show that fibrewise holomorphic distributions invariant under the geodesic flow - which play an important role in tensor tomography on surfaces - form a unital algebra, that is, multiplication of such distributions is well-defined and continuous. We also exhibit a natural bijective correspondence between fibrewise holomorphic invariant distributions and genuine holomorphic functions on twistor space with polynomial blowup on the boundary of the twistor space. Eventually, when the surface is Anosov, we classify holomorphic line bundles over twistor space which are smooth up to the boundary. As a byproduct of our analysis, we obtain a quantitative version of a result of Flaminio, asserting that invariant distributions of the geodesic flow of a positively-curved metric on the 2-sphere are determined by their zeroth and first Fourier modes.

Abstract:We obtain the natural diagonal almost product and locally product structures on the total space of the cotangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold. Studying the compatibility and the anti-compatibility relations between the determined structures and a natural diagonal metric, we find the Riemannian almost product (locally product) and the (almost) para-Hermitian cotangent bundles of natural diagonal lift type. Finally, we prove the characterization theorem for the natural diagonal (almost) para-Kählerian structures on the total space of the cotangent bundle.

Abstract:In the present paper it is considered a class V of 3-dimensional Riemannian manifolds M with a metric g and two affinor tensors q and S. It is defined another metric \bar{g} in M. The local coordinates of all these tensors are circulant matrices. It is found: 1)\ a relation between curvature tensors R and \bar{R} of g and \bar{g}, respectively; 2)\ an identity of the curvature tensor R of g in the case when the curvature tensor \bar{R} vanishes; 3)\ a relation between the sectional curvature of a 2-section of the type \{x, qx\} and the scalar curvature of M.

Abstract:In this self-contained book, following Edward Witten, Maxim Kontsevich, Greg Kuperberg and Dylan Thurston, we define an invariant Z of framed links in rational homology 3-spheres, and we study its properties. The invariant Z, which is often called the perturbative expansion of the Chern-Simons theory, is valued in a graded space generated by Jacobi diagrams. It counts embeddings of this kind of unitrivalent graphs in the ambient manifold, in a sense that is explained in the book, using integrals over configuration spaces, or, in a dual way, algebraic intersections in the same configuration spaces. When the ambient manifold is the standard 3-sphere, the invariant Z is a universal Vassiliev link invariant studied by many authors including Guadagnini, Martellini and Mintchev, Bar-Natan, Bott and Taubes, Altsch\"uler and Freidel, Thurston and Poirier... This book contains a more flexible definition of this invariant. We extend Z to a functor on a category of framed tangles in rational homology cylinders and we describe the behaviour of this functor under various operations including some cabling operations. We also compute iterated derivatives of our extended invariant with respect to the discrete derivatives associated to the main theories of finite type invariants. Together with recent results of Massuyeau and Moussard, our computations imply that the restriction of Z to rational homology 3-spheres (equipped with empty links) contains the same information as the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki LMO invariant for these manifolds. They also imply that the degree one part of Z is the Casson-Walker invariant.
Invariants for links and 3-manifolds from the modular category with two simple objects

Abstract:We describe the simplest non-trivial modular category $\mathfrak{E}$ with two simple objects. Then we extract from this category the invariant for non-oriented links in 3-sphere and two invariants for 3-manifolds: the complex-valued Turaev - Reshetikhin type invariant $tr_{\varepsilon}$ and the real-valued Turaev - Viro type invariant $tv_{\varepsilon}$. These two invariants for 3-manifolds are related by the equality $|tr_{\varepsilon}|^2\cdot (\varepsilon + 2) = tv_{\varepsilon}$, where $\varepsilon$ is a root of the equation $\varepsilon^2 = \varepsilon + 1$. Finally, we show that $tv_{\varepsilon}$ coincides with the well-known $\varepsilon$ invariant for 3-manifolds.

Invariant manifolds of maps and vector fields with nilpotent parabolic tori

Abstract:We consider analytic maps and vector fields defined in $\mathbb{R}^2 \times \mathbb{T}^d$, having a $d$-dimensional invariant torus $\mathcal{T}$. The map (resp. vector field) restricted to $\mathcal{T}$ defines a rotation of frequency $\omega$, and its derivative restricted to transversal directions to $\mathcal{T}$ does not diagonalize. In this context, we give conditions on the coefficients of the nonlinear terms of the map (resp. vector field) under which $\mathcal{T}$ possesses stable and unstable invariant manifolds, and we show that such invariant manifolds are analyitic away from the invariant torus. We also provide effective algorithms to compute approximations of parameterizations of the invariant manifolds, and present some applications of the results.

Abstract:We discuss (arbitrary-dimensional) Lorentzian manifolds and the scalar polynomial curvature invariants constructed from the Riemann tensor and its covariant derivatives. Recently, we have shown that in four dimensions a Lorentzian spacetime metric is either $\mathcal{I}$-non-degenerate, and hence locally characterized by its scalar polynomial curvature invariants, or is a degenerate Kundt spacetime. We present a number of results that generalize these results to higher dimensions and discuss their consequences and potential physical applications.

Abstract:A $(J^{2}=\pm 1)$-metric manifold has an almost complex or almost product structure $J$ and a compatible metric $g$. We show that there exists a canonical involution in the set of connections on such a manifold, which allows to define a projection over the set of connections adapted to $J$. This projection sends the Levi Civita connection onto the first canonical connection. In the almost Hermitian case, it also sends the $\nabla^{-}$ connection onto the Chern connection, thus applying the line of metric connections defined by $\nabla ^{-}$ and the Levi Civita connections onto the line of canonical connections. Besides, it moves metric connections onto metric connections.
