Abstract:The aggregation and sedimentation of nanoparticles affect the dispersion stability and application of nanosuspension. TiO2 nanoparticles were coupled on zirconium phosphate (ZrP) disks with different diameters to study the effect of ZrP size on the dispersion stability of nanocomposite suspensions. Four suspensions, namely, TiO2 nanosuspensions and three exfoliated TiO2 ‒ ZrP nanocomposite suspensions with diameters of 729.6, 1004.5 and 1168.5 nm were prepared. Dispersion stability was compared among the suspensions. The zeta potential, viscosity, particle morphology and particle size distribution of the suspensions were also tested to analyze the stability mechanism of the nanocomposite suspensions. Results of the stability tests within 100 days show that the TiO2 ‒ ZrP nanocomposite suspensions exhibited slower sedimentation, higher ultraviolet-visible absorbance, smaller light transmission and backscattering variation and lower Turbiscan Stability Index than those of the pure TiO2 suspension. Among the samples, the smallest TiO2 ‒ ZrP nanocomposites exhibited improved stability. The absolute zeta potential and viscosity of each nanocomposite suspension were comparable with one another, but higher than those of the TiO2 suspension. The transmission electron microscope images and particle size distribution suggest that TiO2 ‒ ZrP can better control the aggregation of small TiO2 nanoparticle clusters. Abstract:The influence of four complexing agents on corrosion resistance of Zinc-Nickel (Zn-Ni) alloy coating was investigated. The current density and plating time were determined by Hull and rectangular tank experiments. The effects of triethanolamine, potassium sodium tartrate, tetraethylenepentamine and sodium citrate on the properties of iron-based Zn-Ni alloy coatings were studied under the same electroplating process. The surface morphology, structure, elemental composition and corrosion resistance of Fe-base Zn-Ni alloy coatings with different complexing agents were analyzed. The surface and morphology of the coating were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The anticorrosive properties of the coating were evaluated by electrochemical electrode and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The self-corrosion current density of triethanolamine is 2.927e-005A·cm −2 , the rate of corrosion is minimal, rendering the material highly resistant to corrosion; the surface remains flat and exhibits a dense texture. The content of potassium, sodium, Zn and Ni in tartrate increased, thus reducing the corrosion resistance and flatness of the coating. The self-corrosion current density was 9.400e-005A·cm −2 . The surface was rough and uneven, and there were a large number of large concave and convex defects. The complexing agent enhances the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the coating, improves the optical and mechanical properties of the coating, adjusts the durability and stability of the coating, increases the crystal packing density, increases the coating thickness, improves the adhesion with the substrate interface, and optimizes the uniformity of grain distribution. These factors are the key factors that determine the corrosion behavior of Zn-Ni coatings. In the process of electroplating, the addition of complexing agent can improve the quality of the coating, and suitable complexing agent can obtain smooth and bright coating at the same time, make the corrosion resistance of the coating higher.

Abstract:A series of DPP derivatives bearing quaternary ammonium salt centers with different lengths of carbon chains have been designed and synthesized. Their inhibition actions on copper electroplating were first investigated. A total of four diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) derivatives showed different inhibition capabilities on copper electroplating. To investigate interactions between metal surface and additives, we used quantum chemical calculations. Static and dynamic surface tension of four DPP derivatives had been measured, and the results showed DPP-10C (1c) with a faster-decreasing rate of dynamic surface tension among the four derivatives, which indicated higher adsorption rate of additive on the cathode surface and gives rise to stronger inhibiting effect of copper electrodeposition. Then, DPP-10C (1c) as the representative additive, was selected for the systematic study of the leveling influence during microvia filling through comprehensive electroplating tests. In addition, field-emission scanning electron microscope images and X-ray diffraction results showed the surface morphology, which indicated that addition of DPP derivative (1c) could lead a fine copper deposit and cause the preferential orientations of copper deposits to change from [220] to [111], which happened in particular at higher concentrations.

Abstract:The Sn-Fe alloy coating is a potential choice for decorative coatings and electronic products because of its excellent performance. However, oxidation of the bath is likely to occur in the process of use, which limits the production of electrodeposition of Sn-Fe alloy. Resveratrol has excellent antioxidant capacity and is considered as a non-polluting natural antioxidant. However, the understanding of using of resveratrol as stabilizer for electroplating solution in the field of electrodeposition is limited. In this study, resveratrol, hydroquinone and TBHQ are selected as the stabilizers of the electroplating bath to conduct comparative experiments for measuring the stability effect of resveratrol. The antioxidant capacities of three stabilizers are compared by means of the natural oxidation experiment, H 2 O 2 accelerated oxidation experiment and electrochemical testing. The natural oxidation experiment and H 2 O 2 accelerated oxidation experiment confirm that the antioxidant effect of resveratrol is higher than hydroquinone and TBHQ. To determine the optimal concentration of resveratrol in the electroplating solution, EIS and salt spray test were conducted. These results show that appropriate resveratrol can improve the corrosion resistance of the coating, but excessive resveratrol is detrimental to corrosion resistance. Therefore, the optimal concentration of resveratrol in the electroplating solution is 1.0g/L.

Abstract:A new organic pickling corrosion inhibitor of N,N,N-triethylammonium O,O'-dicyclohexyl-dithiophosphate(NTOD) was prepared,and its inhibitive effect for Q235 steel was evaluated in 5% hydrochloric acid using weight loss measurement and electrochemical method.The results show that NTOD is a mixed type inhibitor and the inhibition effect is higher than 97% in 5% hydrochloric acid solution.The adsorption of NTOD on Q235 steel surface is consistent with Langmuir adsorption isotherm and belongs to chemisorption.The effects of temperature,acid concentration and placing time were also studied in this work.

Abstract:A comprehensive study was conducted, both experimentally and theoretically, to evaluate the corrosion inhibition ability of 4-amino-5-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (AT) and 4-amino-5-(pyridine-4-yl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (AP) on mild steel. The findings show that AT and AP are potential mixed-type inhibitors in hydrochloric acid solution. At 293 K and a concentration of 5×10−3 M, AT and AP have efficiencies of 93.33% and 97.33%. When the temperature rises to 323 K, their efficiencies drop to 87.27% and 90.82%. The adsorption behavior of AT and AP on the steel surface conforms to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. A key finding is the superior inhibition performance of AP over AT, attributed to its higher nitrogen heteroatom content, which enhances the interaction with the mild steel surface. Molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations reveal that AP exhibits a notably higher binding energy (pAP-N20: 847.17 kJ.mol−1) compared to AT (pAT-S18: 847.17 kJ.mol−1). This study established a correlation between molecular structure, adsorption behavior, and corrosion inhibition efficiency, providing new insights into the design of effective corrosion inhibitors for industrial applications.

Abstract:In response to the demands for high frequency, miniaturization, and high integration in electronic devices, such as inductors and DC-DC convertors, nickel–zinc ferrite thin films exhibit significant application value and development potential. For regulating the magnetic properties and microstructure of spin-sprayed polycrystalline ferrite materials, a comprehensive understanding of the impact of oxidant concentration on film reaction is essential. This study finds that as the concentration of the NaNO2 oxidant increases, the grain size of the nickel–zinc ferrite thin film samples progressively enlarges. Due to the preferential occupation of iron ions at the B sites, the saturation magnetization correspondingly increases. However, when the oxidant concentration becomes excessive, the preferential (222) orientation growth of the film is disrupted, leading to the agglomeration and uneven growth of grains, transitioning from triangular plate-like to spherical in shape. This increase in grain size alters the magnetization mechanism of the thin film, predominantly favoring domain wall movement. Upon analyzing the microstructure and magnetic characteristics, it becomes evident that the concentration of oxidant is a key determinant in the spin-spray deposition process.

Abstract:As one of the most advanced film forming technologies, the surface-initiated controlled/living radical polymerization provides an effective method for in-situ fabricating functional films on material surface. In this paper, the triazole film of polymerized (1-tosyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl) methyl acrylate (P-TTMA) is in-situ prepared on copper surface via Cu catalyzed surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) method. The P-TTMA film with different degree of polymerization (DP) is obtained by varying its molecular weight, which is achieved via regulating the polymerization time of SI-ATRP reaction. When the polymerization time is within 48 h, the SI-ATRP system can achieve a regular chain growth of P-TTMA film, the DP value of P-TTMA film shows an S-shaped variation as the polymerization time increasing. The electrochemical test is performed to evaluate the anticorrosion performance of different P-TTMA films for copper. The result demonstrates that the P-TTMA films exhibit good anticorrosion performance for Cu in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The P-TTMA obtained by 48 h polymerization time, with the DP value of 105, exhibits the stable and good protection performance. The anticorrosion performance of P-TTMA film can be optimized via regulating the SI-ATRP reaction. This paper provides a new idea for preparing inhibition film with a certain degree of polymerization and protection performance on metal surface. It is expected to be a theoretical guidance for fabricating triazole polymer film using ATRP with lower catalyst loading or metal-free ATRP in the coming future.

Abstract:By the reactions of FeX2 with alpha,omega-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)alkane ligands (X = ClO4-, BF4-, NCS-, and NCSe-), a series of novel iron(II) coordination, polymers have been synthesized and characterized. Complexes [Fe(btP)(3)](ClO4)(2) (1a), [Fe(btP)(3)](BF4)(2) (1b), and [Fe(btP)(2)(NCS)(2)] (2) (btp = 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)propane) are infinite 1D-linear chains. [Fe(btb)(3)](ClO4)(2) (3a) and [Fe(btb)(3)](BF4)(2) (3b) (btb = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butane) are 3-fold interpenetrated alpha-polonium cubic frameworks. The two sorts of btb ligands with different conformations alternately link to the Fe(II) centers in [Fe(btb)(2)(NCS)(2)]center dot H2O (4) to form a 3D interpenetrating architecture of CdSO4-like topology. When NCSe- instead of NCS- was used as the framework-regulator, a 2D grid layer [Fe(btb)(2)(NCSe)(2)]center dot 2H(2)O (5) was obtained. The counteranions, spacer length, and conformation of the alpha,omega-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)alkane ligands are responsible for the assembled topological architectures. Magnetic studies indicate that all of these iron(II) polymers retain a high-spin ground state upon cooling from 300 to 4 K.
Corrosion inhibition property of thiadiazole derivative on silver strips

Abstract:Contact angle measurement,metallographic microscopic analysis,weight gain method and molecular dynamics simulation had been studied in the experiment. TSJ-T6,MMTD and DMTD were used as the corrosion inhibitor for silver strips. The corrosive solution was the sulfur and mercaptan concomitant system. Contact angle measurement and the metallographic microscopic analysis results showed that inhibitive layer was formed on the metal/solution interface during to the adsorption of inhibitor. Weight gain measurement results showed that all the three corrosion inhibitors work well when the concentration of the inhibitors was low,and the TSJ-T6 was optimal. Meanwhile,all the adsorptions on the surface of the silver strips met the Langmuir isothermal adsorption e-quation. The molecular simulation had been used to simulate the adsorption model of inhibitor molecules on Ag(111)surface.
Development of high copper concentration, low operating temperature, and environmentally friendly electroless copper plating using a copper ‐ glycerin complex solution

Abstract:Few researchers have studied high metal ions concentration electroless plating solutions since increasing metal ions concentration shortens the solution life considerably. Nevertheless, as the required thickness of the electroless plating film reduces gradually, the limited solution life will not be a large problem. There are no detailed studies on the influence of high copper concentration electroless copper plating solution and their composition on the plating rate and decomposition time. Therefore, this paper explores the plating characteristics of high copper concentration from a copper‐glycerin complex solution. Taguchi's approach was used to optimize the plating rate and decomposition time based on an L18 orthogonal array with six main effect parameters and three levels. Main effect response tables and plots were employed to investigate the parameter influence. The significant factors of plating rate are temperature and pH, and the concentration of copper sulfate has much influence on the decomposition time. Temperature and copper sulfate concentration are the key factors to optimize the formulation of the plating solution. The optimized results were obtained at 0.18 M copper sulfate, 0.133 M formaldehyde, 0.36 M glycerin, 3.2 × 10−5 M 2,2’-dipyridyl, 29 °C, pH = 12.8. The copper concentration was more than four times higher than the conventional electroless copper plating solution, and the critical factors of high copper concentration in the electroless copper plating solution were revealed. It was found that copper formed 1:2 complexes with glycerin at a pH value of 12.8. In addition, the surface morphology and the uniformity of the plating layer were included as well.

Abstract:The role of thiourea as an organic additive in the nucleation and growth mechanism was studied for copper deposition and its application in the decorative electroplating and fashion accessory industries. The bath was designed to reduce the environmental and ecological impacts using methanesulfonic acid as electrolyte as an alternative to alkaline cyanide baths. We evaluated the nucleation and growth mechanism of copper exploiting voltametric and chronoamperometric measurements with a brightener concentration ranging from 0 to 90 ppm. We used the Scharifker–Hills model to estimate the type of nucleation mechanism after progressive addition of thiourea. Scanning electron microscope was employed for surface analysis and morphological characterisation of the nuclei. We verified that progressive nucleation is a key step in the obtainment of a shiny and homogeneous copper film, but an excess of thiourea could cause parasitic adsorption reactions on the surface of the substrate. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy was used for the thickness determination of the copper deposits and the electrodeposition efficiency correlated to thiourea concentration. Finally, the optimal concentration of thiourea was assessed to be 60 ppm for the used formulation of copper plating.

Abstract:The corrosion behavior of Ti-xMo alloy films was investigated by preparing a series of Ti-xMo (x = 0, 4, 11, 20 wt%) alloy films using non-equilibrium magnetron sputtering ion plating technology. XRD and TEM results show that these films have obvious phase composition, which are single α phase, α + β phase and single β phase, respectively. The composition of passivation film of alloy thin films is analyzed by XPS analysis method. The passivation film can be divided into inner passivation film and outer passivation film. The corrosion behavior of Ti-xMo alloy films in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated through the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The findings suggest that the corrosion resistance of Ti-xMo alloy films is not only influenced by the Mo content but also governed by the composition of phases. Due to the absence of α/β interfaces in its structure and higher Mo content, the Ti20Mo alloy film with a single β phase exhibits superior corrosion resistance compared to Pure-Ti film with a single α phase and Ti4Mo and Ti-11 alloy films with an α + β phase.

Abstract:Triazole compounds are the special corrosion inhibitors for copper and its alloys. The degree of polymerization of triazole molecules is a critical factor determining their anticorrosion performance. Surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) is a robust method for preparing the polymer films with controlled conformation on material surface. In this work, the triazole film of polymerized (1-tosyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl) methyl acrylate (P-TTMA) is in-situ prepared on copper surface via Cu catalyzed surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) method. The P-TTMA film with different anticorrosion performance is obtained by regulating their conformation (graft density, degree of polymerization). The conformation of P-TTMA is achieved by varying the assembling concentration of the initiator in SI-ATRP reaction. When the assembling concentration of the initiator ranges from 0.05 wt% to 1.00 wt%, the P-TTMA exhibits different graft density and degree of polymerization, the conformation of P-TTMA polymer chains gradually changes from “mushroom-type” to “brush-type”. The electrochemical test is performed to evaluate the anticorrosion performance of different P-TTMA films for copper. The result demonstrates that the P-TTMA films exhibit good anticorrosion performance for Cu in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. When the assembling concentration is 0.16 wt%, the P-TTMA film shows the best protection performance for copper and the corrosion inhibition efficiency is 97%. However, when the assembling concentration exceeds 0.16 wt%, the corrosion inhibition efficiency of P-TTMA film for copper decrease gradually. The anticorrosion performance of P-TTMA film can be optimized via regulating the assembling concentration of the initiator in SI-ATRP reaction. This work provides a novel idea for in-situ preparing triazole polymer films on copper surface and regulating their conformation via SI-ATRP method. It is of significance to design the multifunctional polymer film on material surface.

Abstract:Co-deposition of zincate and tin ion on zinc electrode were conducted to investigate the effect of tin ion on electro-deposition of zincate. The results showed that the deposit morphology of zincate changed from dendrite to many small compact crystallites in a spongy array. With increasing tin ion additive, zinc dendrite was dramatically inhibited. The precise mechanism of inhibition was discussed. In addition to the deposition of tin on preferred growth sites blocking further zinc deposition, the high deposition over-potential on tin is an important factor.

Abstract:The surface of copper plate of the mold need to be reinforced to obtain the plating coatings with high hardness and corrosion resistant properties. Nowadays, Ni-base alloy coatings is used widely in the industrial production. In order to raise the service life of mold, the experiments on the property of Ni-base nano ZrO2 composite plating coatings was done in this paper. The experiments were planned with the orthogonal test design method. The effective factors on the property of coatings, bath temperature, cathode current density, the distance between two electrodes and the magnitude of Nano-ZrO2,were experimentally studied. The optimum process parameter were obtained. The results show that the composite plating layer of Ni-base Nano ZrO2 with good properties can be obtained. The optimal conditions are as follows: the bath temperature is 40 degrees C, cathode current density is 3A/dm(2), the distance between two electrodes is 12 cm, the magnitude of Nano-ZrO2 is 12g/L. In addition binding strength of the coatings were measured quantitatively, and the structure of the plating layer were observed with SEM. The layer with good properties can be obtained in this method.
Electroless Copper Plating on a Cotton Surface: Effect of Metal Ion Ligand Stability Constant on Reduction Deposition

Abstract:Electroless plating facilitates the metallization of nonconductive substrate surfaces, and of note, the precise control of the bath stability constant influences the deposition process of metal particles. In this paper, trisodium citrate, potassium sodium tartrate, nitrogen triacetic acid, thiourea, and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium were selected as coordination agents, and the effect of the metal ion ligand stability constant on the reduction deposition was studied. Coordination bonds can be established between the Cu2+ and O/N/S particles in the ligand because paired electrons in O/N/S hybrid orbitals tend to occupy empty Cu2+ hybrid orbitals and establish coordination bonds. More importantly, the copper-potassium sodium tartrate ligand exhibits the lowest stability constant and lowest reduction barrier. As an exception, a consecutive Cu-plated coating with an excellent crystallinity property was deposited on the cotton surface when potassium sodium tartrate was used as the coordination agent in the plating solution. The deposition amounts are 55.2% and 74.1% after 1 and 4 h of electroless copper plating, respectively. The surface resistivity of Cu-plated cotton is 0.38 Ω/cm2, and additionally, the surface resistivity ratio before and after 1000 cycles fluctuated between 0.9 and 1.1, indicating that the Cu-plated cotton exhibits outstanding flexibility. In this paper, the deposition rate can be optimized by adjusting the copper particle ligand stability constant in the plating solution, aiming to achieve optimal results.

Abstract:A series of Ti–xZr alloys with Zr contents ranging from 5 to 20wt% was prepared and the effects of Zr addition on the microstructure, physical properties, and corrosion behavior of Ti alloys were investigated. The phase and microstructures were characterized using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The Ti–xZr alloys exhibited α-Ti structure at Zr content of 20wt% or below. Commercially pure titanium (cp-Ti) was used as a control. We also investigated the effects of alloying element Zr on the mechanical property, oxidation protection ability, and corrosion behavior of Ti–xZr binary alloys. The physical properties and corrosion behavior of Ti–xZr alloys were sensitive to the Zr content. The addition of Zr did contribute to the hardening of cp-Ti due to solid-solution strengthening of α-Ti. Ti–xZr alloys containing up to 10wt% Zr resulted in good oxidation resistance, while Ti–xZr alloys with above 10wt% Zr demonstrated higher oxidation weight gain than cp-Ti. Electrochemical experiments showed that the Ti–xZr alloys exhibited better corrosion resistance compared to that of cp-Ti.
