Abstract:An efficient protocol for chemoselective synthesis of 2-substituted benzimidazoles from a variety of aliphatic/aromatic/heteroaryl aldehydes and o-phenylenediamine derivatives promoted by NaHSO3 in water had been developed. The amount of NaHSO3 had a great effect on the reaction selectivity of 2-substituted benzimidazole and 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazole when the reaction was carried out in water. When the amount of the NaHSO3 was more than 11 equivalents, the 2-substituted benzimidazole could be highly selectively formed as the sole product. NaHSO3 was firstly reacted with aldehyde to form the aldehyde sodium bisulfite, which reacted with o-phenylenediamine to form the 2-substituted benzimidazole and inhibited the formation of 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazole. This protocol solved the poor selectivity problem appearing in traditional method when cyclocondensation between o-phenylenediamine and aldehydes. The method also had advantage of simple work up by filtrating the single 2-substituted benzimidazole precipitates from reaction mixture at the end of the reaction without further purification. In addition, the method was applicable to both electron-rich and electron-poor starting materials, which was successfully used for synthesizing nine novel 2-substituted benzimidazole derivatives containing a 1,2,3-triazole moiety. They were characterized by NMR, IR and HRMS spectrum. Moreover, this method had been applied to a large scale synthesis of 2-substituted benzimidazole derivatives.

Abstract:The reaction of hydrazide with carbonyl chloride in the presence of sodium carbonates leads to the corresponding 1,2-diacylhydrazines vertical bar 1a-t, (RC)-C-1(O)NHNHC(O)R-2, R-1 = aryl, R-2 = or alkyl vertical bar in moderate to excellent yield (57-90%). The latter reacts with 2,4-diphenyl-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woolins' reagent, WR) in refluxing toluene to give a series of new 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-selenadiazoles (2a-t, 51-99% yield). Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:The reaction of selenoamides with functionalized α-haloacetate in 1∶1 or 1∶2 molar ratio with no catalyst under the neutral condition at room temperature to furnish bis(carboxyalkylmethyl) diselenides via selenium transfer reaction was investigated.No bis(carboxyalkylmethyl) selenide was separated.A new and convenient synthesis of bis(carboxyalkylmethyl) diselenides with the advantages of mild reaction condition,high yield and good chemical selectivity was afforded.Corresponding byproduct ethyl benzoate was also gained.This reaction provides a new method for selenium transfer reaction.

Abstract:The chemical reduction within a family of organic selenocyanates, as masked selenols, using reducing agents, such as Rongalite, sodium dithionite, and sodium thiosulfate is investigated. Using Rongalite, the corresponding diselenides were obtained quantitatively and selectively in very good to excellent yields (51‐100%) starting from alkyl, aryl, and benzyl selenocyanates. The scope of the reaction is unaffected by the electronic nature of the substituents. Furthermore, the reducing agent, Rongalite, is compatible with hydrolysable and reducing‐sensitive functional groups. Additionally, a simple methodology employing the in‐situ generated benzyl selenolate anion (PhCH2Se ̅) to promote aliphatic nucleophilic substitution, epoxide ring opening, and Michael addition reactions has been developed; thus extending the structural diversity of the synthesized selenium derivatives.

Abstract:A facile stereoselective bis-trifluoromethylselenolation reaction of alkyne derivatives was realized for the first time. The reaction of alkyne derivatives and AgSeCF3 was found to proceed in the presence of N-bromosuccinimide and water in tetrahydrofuran and afforded bis-trifluoromethylselenolated products in moderate-to-excellent yields. The new methodology enables one-pot synthesis with a broad substrate range.

Abstract:We describe a simple and efficient method for the synthesis of various benzoselenazoles and benzothiazoles by the Ullman coupling reaction of dihalobenzenes with acyl iso(seleno/thio)cyanate–malononitrile adducts in the presence of a copper catalyst with K 2 CO 3 as a base at room temperature, without the help of additional ligands. Notable features of this protocol include the use of mild copper-catalyzed reaction conditions, simple and readily available raw materials, easy purification with the help of a solvent, and the synthesis of 17 new benzoselenazole and benzothiazole compounds.
