Abstract:A phosgene- and metal-free synthesis of unsymmetrical arylurea derivatives utilizing 3-substituted dioxazolones and commercially available amines has been developed. The 3-substituted dioxazolones serve as the precursors of thein situgenerated isocyanate intermediates in the presence of non-toxic sodium acetate as a base and methanol as a solvent under mild heating conditions. A series of unsymmetrical phenylureas includingN, N'- mono-, di-, and trisubstituted derivatives are chemoselectively obtained in moderate to excellent yields from a broad scope of both 3-substituted dioxazolones and amines without a significant amount of the symmetrical byproducts. In many cases, the resulting unsymmetrical phenylureas are easily separated by filtration allowing no chromatographic purification. These investigations provide an opportunity for facile, practical, and eco-friendly synthesis of unsymmetrical diarylureas. Application of this method is demonstrated toward the gram-scale preparation of anti-cancer drugs, sorafenib and the 3-cycle continuous synthesis in conjugation with the recycle of sodium acetate and methanol process of known herbicide, daimuron.

Abstract:The reaction of hydrazide with carbonyl chloride in the presence of sodium carbonates leads to the corresponding 1,2-diacylhydrazines vertical bar 1a-t, (RC)-C-1(O)NHNHC(O)R-2, R-1 = aryl, R-2 = or alkyl vertical bar in moderate to excellent yield (57-90%). The latter reacts with 2,4-diphenyl-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woolins' reagent, WR) in refluxing toluene to give a series of new 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-selenadiazoles (2a-t, 51-99% yield). Abstract:A one-pot reaction of arylisoselenocyanates, hydrazine and bis(trichloromethyl) carbonate, in the presence of a base provides an efficient route for the synthesis of 5-arylamino-1,3,4-selenadiazol-2(3H)-ones in good to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism is proposed for the reaction.

Abstract:An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

Abstract:Diacyl diselenides were synthesized by the reaction of arylselenoamides with acyl chlorides at 1 : 1 molar ratio using chloroform as solvent in good yields. Diacyl selenides were formed by the reaction of arylselenoamides with acyl chlorides at 1 : 2 molar ratio. A mechanism for the new method of generating diacyl diselenides and diacyl selenides was proposed.

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:A mild and general procedure for the difluoromethylation of organochalcogen compounds has been accomplished via sulfoxide and selenoxide-directed [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement/Haller-Bauer reaction with difluoroenoxysilanes. The reactions showed good functional group compatibility, wide substrate applicability, and facile scalability. The synthetic utility is highlighted by the iterative use of this protocol to construct multi-CF2H-containing chalcogenides and the late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals.

Abstract:A straightforward protocol has been developed to access 3-selenylated pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines from readily available amino pyrazoles, chalcones, and diaryl/dialkyl diselenides. This I2-catalyzed methodology is highly useful for synthesizing a wide range of functionalized 3-(aryl/alkylselanyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine derivatives. Mechanistic investigation disclosed that iodine catalysis is very important in both the cyclization process as well as in the C-H selenylation step. Moreover, the developed reaction condition is also applicable for the cyclization of aminopyrazole with enaminone followed by C-H selenylation in one pot. The use of simple reagents and catalyst, wide substrate scope, mild and metal-free reaction conditions, and practical applicability are the attractive facets of this approach.

Abstract:We report a mild 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition protocol for the preparation of 3-aryl-5-phenylselenomethyl isoxazoles and isoxazolines regioselectively. The former was further reacted with LDA and electrophilic substrates followed by selenoxide syn-elimination to afford 3-aryl-5-E-substituted-ethenyl isoxazoles stereoselectively and the latter was subjected to a ‘two-step’ elimination to afford 3-aryl-5-methyl isoxazoles.

Abstract:Reaction of 2,4-bis(phenyl)-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide [PhP(Se)(mu-Se)](2) (Woollins' reagent, WR) with one equivalent of 1,4-diarylbutane-1,4-diones 1a-g in refluxing toluene affords the corresponding 2,5-diarylselenophenes 2a-g in excellent yields (up to 99%). Alternatively, the 2,5-diarylselenophenes (2a and 2b) can be obtained in 70-80% yields from the reaction of arylacetylene with an equivalent of O-methyl Se-hydrogen phenylphosphonodiselenoate; the latter was derived from WR and methanol. The first X-ray structure of 2,5-diarylselenophenes is presented along with characterisation of their redox properties.

Abstract:A convenient and effective method of palladium‐catalyzed C–H selenylation of the 2‐aryl acetamides assisted with removable 8‐aminoquinoline with readily available diselenides and selenyl chlorides has been developed. This selenylation reaction is scalable and tolerates a wide range of functional groups, providing a straightforward way of the preparing unsymmetrical diaryl selenides and dibenzoselenepinone. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that a single‐electron transfer type mechanism and facile C–H metalation are operative.
