Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:A convenient and effective method of palladium‐catalyzed C–H selenylation of the 2‐aryl acetamides assisted with removable 8‐aminoquinoline with readily available diselenides and selenyl chlorides has been developed. This selenylation reaction is scalable and tolerates a wide range of functional groups, providing a straightforward way of the preparing unsymmetrical diaryl selenides and dibenzoselenepinone. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that a single‐electron transfer type mechanism and facile C–H metalation are operative.

Abstract:An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

Abstract:[reaction: see text] A new catalytic method for direct alpha-selenenylation reactions of aldehydes and ketones has been developed. The results of exploratory studies have demonstrated that L-prolinamide is an effective catalyst for alpha-selenenylation reactions of aldehydes, whereas pyrrolidine trifluoromethanesulfonamide efficiently promotes reactions of ketones. Under optimized reaction conditions, using N-(phenylseleno)phthalimide as the selenenylation reagent in CH2Cl2 in the presence of L-prolinamide (2 mol %) or pyrrolidine trifluoromethanesulfonamide (10 mol %), a variety of aldehydes and ketones undergo this process to generate alpha-selenenylation products in high yields. Mechanistic insight into the L-proline and L-prolinamide catalyzed alpha-selenenylation reactions of aldehydes with N-(phenylseleno)phthalimide has come from theoretical studies employing ab initio methods and density functional theory. The results reveal that (1) the rate-limiting step of the process involves attack of the enamine intermediate at selenium in N-(phenylseleno)phthalimide and (2) the energy of the transition state for the reaction catalyzed by prolinamide is lower than that promoted by proline. This result is consistent with experimental observations. The role of hydrogen bond interactions in stabilizing the transition states for this process is also discussed.

Abstract:A palladium‐catalyzed remote δ‐C−H selenylation of arylethylamide derivatives with readily available diselenides has been reported. This protocol relies on the use of a removable picolinamide directing group to access unsymmetrical diaryl selenides from 45‐98% yields. Furthermore, the inactivated δ‐C(alkenyl)−H bond was also compatible in this reaction and afforded the thermodynamically unfavorable Z‐selective‐alkenyl selenides with complete control of site‐ and stereoselectivity.

Abstract:The reaction of hydrazide with carbonyl chloride in the presence of sodium carbonates leads to the corresponding 1,2-diacylhydrazines vertical bar 1a-t, (RC)-C-1(O)NHNHC(O)R-2, R-1 = aryl, R-2 = or alkyl vertical bar in moderate to excellent yield (57-90%). The latter reacts with 2,4-diphenyl-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woolins' reagent, WR) in refluxing toluene to give a series of new 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-selenadiazoles (2a-t, 51-99% yield). Abstract:The reactivity of aryl selenoamides toward alkyl halide was investigated in Et3N-CHCl3.Surprisingly,it was found that the dialkyl selenides as major product with a trace of dialkyl diselenide as sideproduct were obtained by the reaction of aryl selenoamide with benzyl chloride at 1∶1 molar ratio,and dialkyl diselenide was formed as major product with a trace dialkyl selenide as sideproduct by the reaction of aryl selenoamide with benzyl chloride at 1∶2 molar ratio in Et3N-CHCl3.It is different from the reaction of selenoamides with alkyl halides in benzene/ethanol.This reaction provides not only a new selenium transfer reaction but also a new method for synthesis of dialkyl selenides and dialkyl diselenides.

Abstract:A direct selenylation of N‐arylsulfonamides and anilides using environmentally friendly and readily available copper promoted assisted by amide is presented. This method provided convenient access for various selenylation reactions, demonstrating a wide range of substrates and strong tolerance to various functional groups. According to the selection of reaction substrates, products can be isolated to obtain a regioselectivity ortho‐, para‐, or unprecedented ortho, para‐diselenylation products. Such transformation was elucidated by a proposed copper‐promoted amide‐assisted radical mechanism.

Abstract:The reaction of selenoamides with functionalized α-haloacetate in 1∶1 or 1∶2 molar ratio with no catalyst under the neutral condition at room temperature to furnish bis(carboxyalkylmethyl) diselenides via selenium transfer reaction was investigated.No bis(carboxyalkylmethyl) selenide was separated.A new and convenient synthesis of bis(carboxyalkylmethyl) diselenides with the advantages of mild reaction condition,high yield and good chemical selectivity was afforded.Corresponding byproduct ethyl benzoate was also gained.This reaction provides a new method for selenium transfer reaction.
