Abstract:An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

Abstract:Benzothieno[2,3-b]thiophenes, [2,3-b:3′,2′-d]-dithienothiophenes, and their selenium derivatives were synthesized in good yields from readily available 3-ethynyllithio-benzo[b]thiophenyllithio compounds, sulfur or selenium, and 2equiv of acid chlorides. Two heteroarene rings were constructed by a twofold cyclization via an acid chloride-induced electrophilic ring closing and the McMurry cyclization using Zn/TiCl4 reagents.

Abstract:A facile and transition metal‐free method has been developed for the synthesis of 2‐amino benzazoles through elemental selenium promoted cyclization reaction of ortho‐substituted anilines with isocyanides under mild conditions. Through this strategy, a series of 2‐amino benzooxa/(thia)zoles and benzimidazoles could be efficiently obtained in good to excellent yields with favorable functional group tolerance.

Abstract:2-Trifluoromethyl and 2-difluoromethyl substituted benzimidazole, benzoxazole and benzothiazole derivatives were efficiently prepared through a one-pot reaction of trifluoroacetic acid and difluoroacetic acid, respectively, with commercially available o-phenylenediamines, 2-aminophenols, and 2-aminobenzenethiols in good to excellent yields. Subsequential bromination of 2-difluoromethyl groups by photolysis with NBS led to the formation of bromodifluoromethyl benzo-1,3-diazoles which may be utilized to prepare the new generation of gem-difluoromethylene linked identical or non-identical twin molecules for drug synthesis.

Abstract:A domino one‐pot synthesis of 2‐(trifluoromethyl)benzothiazole via copper‐mediated three‐component cascade reaction starting from the easily accessible starting materials such as o‐iodoanilines, methyl trifluoropyruvate, and elemental sulfur is reported. The present strategy displayed a comprehensive substrate scope and good functional group tolerance and enabled access to a variety of substituted 2‐(trifluoromethyl)benzothiazoles. A 2‐(trifluoromethyl)benzoselenazole has also been synthesized utilizing this reaction methodology.

Abstract:A method has been developed to prepare previously inaccessible substituted 1,3-benzotellurazoles following an efficient two-step process, consisting of the tellurination of electron rich phenyl ureas with tellurium tetrachloride and subsequent ring closure of the resulting aryl tellurium trichlorides. Tellurination occurs regiospecifically ortho to the urea moiety due to intramolecular Te–O coordination, producing highly crystalline solids that are readily isolated in yields up to 83%. Subsequent ring closure, accomplished by heating with phosphorus trichloride and subsequent reduction with hydrazine hydrate, provides access to 1,3-benzotellurazole derivatives. Selected products were characterized by X-ray crystallography.
