Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:Asymmetric Wittig-type olefination of 4-substituted cyclohexanones with chiral ligand-modified stable arsonium ylides has been examined. The 8-phenylmenthol-derived chiral arsonium ylide of 4 reacted with prochiral ketones 9a-d at -15 degrees C to give the 4-substituted cyclohexylideneacetates 11a-d in 58-69% yield and in up to 80% diastereomeric excess (de). Abstract:An effective approach for the construction of 2-aryl-3-(3-oxo-1-aryl-2-(organoselanyl)prop-1-en-1-yl)quinazolin-4(3H)-ones was developed. Excellent to almost quantitative yields were obtained by the cascade reaction of propargyl quinazoline-4-yl ethers, diselenides, and 70% tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution under metal-free and mild conditions. The synthesized hybrids, with conglomeration of quinazolinone, organoselenium, aldehyde, and fully substituted alkene moieties in one molecule, will have the potential for applications in development of new drugs or drug candidates.

Abstract:A one-pot reaction of arylisoselenocyanates, hydrazine and bis(trichloromethyl) carbonate, in the presence of a base provides an efficient route for the synthesis of 5-arylamino-1,3,4-selenadiazol-2(3H)-ones in good to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism is proposed for the reaction.

Abstract:Reaction of 2,4-bis(phenyl)-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide [PhP(Se)(mu-Se)](2) (Woollins' reagent, WR) with one equivalent of 1,4-diarylbutane-1,4-diones 1a-g in refluxing toluene affords the corresponding 2,5-diarylselenophenes 2a-g in excellent yields (up to 99%). Alternatively, the 2,5-diarylselenophenes (2a and 2b) can be obtained in 70-80% yields from the reaction of arylacetylene with an equivalent of O-methyl Se-hydrogen phenylphosphonodiselenoate; the latter was derived from WR and methanol. The first X-ray structure of 2,5-diarylselenophenes is presented along with characterisation of their redox properties.
