Abstract:α-Phenylthio acylmethylene triphenylarsoranes, the first stable α-thiyl arsonium ylides, are prepared by phenylsulfenylation–transylidation reaction of the corresponding acylmethylene triphenylarsoranes with phenylsulfenyl chloride; Wittig reactions are carried out under mild reaction conditions on the arsonium ylides to provide α-phenylthio-α,β-unsaturated ketones.

Abstract:Asymmetric Wittig-type olefination of 4-substituted cyclohexanones with chiral ligand-modified stable arsonium ylides has been examined. The 8-phenylmenthol-derived chiral arsonium ylide of 4 reacted with prochiral ketones 9a-d at -15 degrees C to give the 4-substituted cyclohexylideneacetates 11a-d in 58-69% yield and in up to 80% diastereomeric excess (de). Abstract:The Wittig reactions of three semistabilized phosphorus ylides generated in situ from the corresponding phosphonium salts with aldehydes in water without any organic cosolvent were investigated. Most of the olefination reactions completed within between 5 min and 4.5 h in refluxing water containing 1.5 equiv of LiOH and 1.4 M LiCl to afford the products in 65-100% yields. The E:Z selectivity depended not only on the substituent attached to the benzene ring of the ylides but also on the substituent bound to the aromatic aldehydes. LiCl promotes the aqueous Wittig reactions and suppresses decomposition of the ylide or the corresponding phosphonium salt.

Abstract:A Lewis-acid-promoted approach to the synthesis of highly functionalized dihydrobenzofuran derivatives was developed. A diverse range of functional groups are tolerated in this type of reaction. The reaction mechanism investigation indicates that the highly reactive phenyl cation intermediate is probably involved in this process. The chirality of substrate is retained under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:omega-Azolylalkyltriphenylphosphonium bromides (5) were readily prepared from corresponding omega-bromo phosphonium salts (4) and azoles. The Wittig reactions of (5) with aromatic aldehydes were studied and 26 omega-azolyl alkenes were obtained. The reaction showed E-stereoselectivity.

Abstract:A novel tandem cyclopropanation/Wittig reaction of alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes with arsonium ylides using a chiral 2-trimethylsilanyloxy-methyl-pyrrolidine-based dendritic catalyst is described. Good yields (up to 86%), and high diastereoselectivities (up to dr = 99: 1) and enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) were obtained under simple and mild reaction conditions.
