Abstract:A new germacrane sesquiterpene was obtained from the roots of L. Dentata which was a folk herb medicine in China. Its structure was elucidated to be 1 alpha,4 beta,6 alpha,10 alpha-tetrahydroxy-3 beta, 5 alpha, 8 alpha-triangeloyloxygermacr-11-en-9-one with the spectroscopic techniques(such as IR, MS, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and 2D-NMR) and chemical transformation.

Abstract:Two new carabrane sesquiterpenes, 4,8-dioxo-6β-methoxy-7β,11-epoxy carabrane (1), and its isomer, 4,8-dioxo-6β-methoxy-7α,11-epoxy carabrane (2) were isolated from the roots of Vladimiria souliei. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods (IR, ESI-MS, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR).

Abstract:A new sesquiterpene, 7α-H-11-hydroxyeremophil-1(10)-en-2-one (1), together with 14 known sesquiterpenoids (2–15), were isolated from the extract of the whole plant of Ligularia fischeri. Among them, compounds 2–6 and 15 were isolated from Ligularia fischeri for the first time. The new compound was characterized by means of spectroscopic methods including 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS, and the known ones were established by comparing their NMR data with those of the corresponding compounds in the literature.

Abstract:Four new bisabolane sesquiterpenes, altaicalarins A-D (1-4), and three known analogues (5-7) were isolated from the roots and rhizomes of Ligularia altaica. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 2D NMR techniques, and the structure of 1 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The isolated compounds were also evaluated for cytotoxic activity against human lung carcinoma (A-549), human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx (KB), and vincristine-resistant nasopharyngeal (KBVIN) cell lines, and 1 was found to show significant cytotoxicity, with EC(50) values of 3.4, 0.8, 1.0, and 0.9 microg/mL, respectively.

Abstract:Five new highly oxygenated oplopane sesquiterpenes, songaricalarins A-E (1-5), and two known analogues (6 and 7) were isolated from the roots and rhizomes of Ligularia songarica. Their structures and configurations were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including 2D-NMR techniques, and the structure of 1 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All compounds were evaluated for in vitro cytotoxic activity against cultured A-549, MCF-7, KB, and KBVIN cells, and 4 exhibited cytotoxicity with EC50 values of 4.9, 0.8, 3.4, and 3.2 μg/mL, respectively.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 2D NMR techniques, and the structure of 1 was confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. The compounds were also evaluated for cytotoxic activity against human lung carcinoma (A-549) and human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7) and were found to show only very weak cytotoxicity.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical constituents of the roots and rhizomes of Ligularia macrophylla.METHODS The compounds were isolated through repeated column chromatography on silica gel, polyamide, RP-18 and Sephadex LH-20. And the structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data (UV, IR, MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT and 2D NMR). RESULTS Four flavonol glycosides and two monoterpene glycosides were obtained and determined as rhamnazin-3-O-β-D-rutinoside ( 1 ), rhamnetin-3-O-β-D-rutinoside ( 2), rutin ( 3), afzelin ( 4), betulalbuside A (5) and 3,7-dimethyloct-1 -en-3,8-diol8-O-β-D- glucopyranoside (6). CONCLUSION All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.
