Abstract:The alcoholic extract ofLigularia veitchiana afforded, in addition to several more widespread known compounds, one new lipidol and two etemophilane derivatives. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and chemical transformations.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from leaves of Phyllostachys pubescens. Method Column chromatography on sephadex LH-20 as well as preparative HPLC and spectral analysis were used to isolate and elucidate the constituents. Result Six compounds were isolated from leaves of Phyllostachys pubescens, and identified as vanillin (I), syringic aldehyde (II), p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (III), vanillic acid (IV), syringic acid (V), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy cinnamic acid, ethyl ester (VI). Conclusion All above the compounds were isolated from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:Ligulaverin A I, an eremophilane derivative with a novel carbon skeleton, was isolated from the medicinal plant Ligularia veitchiana, along with four analogues (ligulaverin B 2, ligulaverin C 3, ligulaverin D 4 and ligulaverin E 5). Their structures were elucidated by NMR techniques and X-ray diffraction. The biosynthetic route to this nineteen-carbon skeleton is discussed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Abstract:Aim:To study the chemical constituents of the leaves of Ligularia veitchiana.Methods:Silica gel and sephadex LH-20 chromatography were used to isolate the chemical constituents whose chemical structure were identified by chemical,physical,and spectral methods .Results and Conclusion: Three compound were isolated and identified:β-sitosterol, 8β-hydroxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12,8α(14β,6α)-dioxide, and daucosterol.

Abstract:A new eremophilane sesquiterpene, capnodiumone (1), along with five known eremophilane sesquiterpenes (2-6) and eight other compounds (7-14), have been isolated from a mangrove-associated fungus Capnodium sp. SZ-F22. The chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The broth extract of the fungus exhibited a good inhibitory effect on the mycelium growth against Fusarium graminearum at 100g/mL, however, all the 14 compounds showed no expected antifungal activity. The probable reasons were discussed. [GRAPHICS] .

The structures of the compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the roots of LIGULARIA VEITCHIANA has resulted in the characterization of two new eremophilanolides together with beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, taraxol, and liguhodgsonal whose structure was further confirmed by the (13)C-NMR techniques. The structures of the new constituents were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and shown to be 1beta, 10beta-epoxy-6beta(2'-hydroxymethylacryloyloxy)-8beta-hydroxy-eremophila-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide ( 1) and 1beta, 10beta-epoxy-6beta-(2'-hydroxymethylacryloyloxy)-8beta-ethoxy-eremophila-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide ( 2).

Abstract:Three new eudesmane sesquiterpenes, 5beta-hydroxyilicic acid (1), 5alpha-hydroxyl-4-epi-ilicic acid methyl ester (2), and 3alpha-hydroxyilicic acid (3), together with 12 known sesquiterpenes were isolated from the aerial part of Laggera alata. Their structures were elucidated primarily by NMR and mass spectroscopic methods. The structures of 1 and 2 were confirmed by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical constituents of the roots and rhizomes of Ligularia macrophylla.METHODS The compounds were isolated through repeated column chromatography on silica gel, polyamide, RP-18 and Sephadex LH-20. And the structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data (UV, IR, MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT and 2D NMR). RESULTS Four flavonol glycosides and two monoterpene glycosides were obtained and determined as rhamnazin-3-O-β-D-rutinoside ( 1 ), rhamnetin-3-O-β-D-rutinoside ( 2), rutin ( 3), afzelin ( 4), betulalbuside A (5) and 3,7-dimethyloct-1 -en-3,8-diol8-O-β-D- glucopyranoside (6). CONCLUSION All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Two new eremophilane-type sesquiterpenoids eremophil-6-en-11-ol (1) and (7 alpha,9 alpha,10 alpha)-9,10-epoxy-eremophilan-11-ol (2), together with a known eremophilane-type (6 alpha,8 alpha)-6,8-dihydroxyeremophil-7(11)-en-12-oic acid 12,8-lactone (3) were isolated from the rhizomes of Ligularia veitchiana. The structures of 1 and 2 were established by spectral analysis including H-1- and C-13-NMR, HSQC, HMBC, and HR-ESI-MS data. The compounds 1 and 3 were assessed against lung-cancer (A549) and stomach-cancer (BCG823) cell lines by the MTT method. The results showed that I exhibited significant inhibiting activities on the growth of these cancer cells with IC50 values between 1 - 100 mu g/ml, whereas compound 3 had no effect on the same cell lines.
