Abstract:Ultrafine powders of Ni(OH)2 and NiO with different shapes were prepared by precipitation transformation method. The influence of transformation temperature and concentrations of transformation agent and anti-agregative agent (a kind of surfactant tween-80) on phase composition and structure were studied in detail. The experimental results showed that, the precipitation transformation was not completed below 40��C, and the XRD determined results indicated two phases of Ni(OH)2 and NiC2O4 �� H2O coexisted. The precipitate was completely transformed when the transformation agent concentrations of NaOH is in the range of 0. 1-0. 05 mol �� L-1, and the single phase Ni(OH)2 ultrafine powder was obtained. But the particle size increased with lowering concentrations of NaOH or anti-aggregative agent. The experimental results also showed that Ni(OH)2 particles are in the shape of needles in the presence of NO3 - anion or of thin pieces when no NO3 - anion exists. The NiO ultrafine powder was obtained by calcining Ni(OH)2 ultrafine powder.

Abstract:NiO nanoparticles were prepared on the silica surface by adsorption phase synthesis. The adsorption and preparation experiments of different reactants were designed to select suitable reactants for the synthesis of NiO particles. Using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses the differences in morphology and grain size of NiO particles prepared under various conditions were characterized. When the quantity of Ni(NO3)2 exceeded 2.0 mmol, the conglomeration of NiO particles became obvious. While the temperature increased from 0 to 40°C, the elevation of reaction rate and supersaturation in the adsorption layer resulted in appearance of NiO particles with smaller size. When the temperature exceeded 40°C, the attenuation of the adsorption layer led to the appearance of the blank silica without NiO particles.

Abstract:NiAl2O4 coated Al2O3 nanopowder was prepared by oxidizing at high temperature. First Al2O3 nanopowder was coated with Ni by electroless plating, and then the Ni/Al2O3 powder was calcined at 1350°C. TEM observation shows the shape of Ni/Al2O3 particle is globoid and the particle size is 50~60 nm. DTA analysis shows that new phases of Ni/Al2O3 are formed at 900°C and 1300°C, which are NiO and NiAl2O4 by XRD testing respectively.

Abstract:Nano-scale nickel hydroxide was prepared with a controlled crystallization method. The measurement results of XRD and TEM show that the crystal of the nano-scale Ni(OH)2 is β-style with a diameter of 20 nm and the size of crystal grain is about 7 nm. Through spray drying the nanophase powder was reagglomerated to a spherical dimension of 1-10 μm with nano-scale conductive materials. The utilization of Ni(OH)2 adding nano-scale Co(OH)2 reaches 99% at 3 C and 89% at 10 C (discharge to 0.9 V).

Abstract:Hexagonal close-packed (hcp) Ni nanoparticles with a highly narrow size distribution have been prepared via a thermal decomposition approach using nickel acetate tetrahydrate as a precursor. The particle morphology, microstructure and magnetic properties were characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results have shown that the particle size and shape can be controlled by using alkylphosphine surfactants, and the control of crystalline phase was achieved by adjusting the concentration of oleylamine in the reaction mixture. The formation of metastable hcp crystalline phase favors a low concentration of oleylamine. The magnetic measurements have shown that the magnetic properties of hcp Ni nanoparticles are quite different from those of face-centered cubic (fcc) Ni nanoparticles. A very low magnetization has been observed on hcp Ni nanoparticles. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The effect of various reaction conditions such as the concentration of urea and Eu(NO3)3, and the pH on the resulting particles was investigated and the optimal preparation conditions were obtained. XRD, IR, TG, TEM and specific surface area measurement techniques were used to characterize the obtained samples.

Abstract:This note reports a successful preparation of a new catalyst particles through the reaction between Ni2+ and H2PO2- in aqueous solution at room temperature. X-ray diffraction pattern indicates that the particles are in amorphous and alloying state. Transmission electron micrograph shows that the particles are spherial and the size distribution is very narrow. The average diameter of the particles is determined to be about 100nm which is a "ultrafine" scale.

Abstract:CuAlO2 powder had been successfully prepared by using CuO, Cu, Al2O3 and NaOH as raw materials with a hydrothermal reaction. The phase composition, microstructure and morphology of the samples were examined by X-ray diffractometry （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） and infrared spectroscopy. The results show that the crystallinity and the crystal size of CuAlO2 powder were greatly affected by the preparation conditions, such as reaction temperature and reaction time. The results of XRD, XPS indicated that samples prepared at 360℃ for 12 hours by hydrothermal method were CuAlO2 phase only.

Abstract:Nanosized MgO powders were prepared by homogeneous precipitation method using Mg(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O and CO(NH2)(2) as raw materials. The influences of raw materials ratio, reaction temperature, calcination temperature and other factors on product yield as well as particle properties, were investigated. TG-DTA, XRD and TEM were used to characterize the thermal stability, crystal structure as well as the morphology of the obtained MgO powder. Results show that the obtained powders have quite well morphology and good dispersion, and the average grain size is about 10 nm. Favorable preparation conditions for nanosized MgO powder at normal pressures are obtained in present study.

Abstract:A novel hydrothermal coating process has been developed to deposit amorphous Ni(OH)2·H2O over octahedral α-Fe2O3 particles by treating aqueous dispersion of the preformed cores in Ni(NO3)2/CH3COONa solution. NiO(core)/Fe2O3(shell) composite particles were prepared by air sintering of the Ni(OH)2·H2O(shell)/Fe2O3(core) particles at 200–500°C for 1–6h. The changes of morphology, structure and weight of the hydrothermal and sintering products were studied by means of TEM, XRD, XPS, TG and IR analyzers. The nucleation and growth model was suggested for the non-isothermal decomposition of Ni(OH)2·H2O coatings and the kinetic equation was derived from the non-linear regression of the TG data. The activation in the thermal-decomposition process is 73.8kJmol−1 and the pre-exponential factor is 1.95×104s−1.

The developed method has the advantages of simple process and cheap raw materials, which provides a possibility for its further scale-up application in industry.

Abstract:NiO nanocrystalline materials were prepared by decomposing a deep green noncrystal precursor at 400 degrees C. The precursor was obtained in alcohol-water mixed solvent by the reaction of Ni(NO3)(2) and NH4HCO3. XRD, TG, DTA and TEM were used to characterize the nanometer NiO and its precursor. The result show that the NiO fine particles are non-agglomerated, spherical and well dispersed with the average size Of 7 nm. The problem of agglomeration in conventional solution method is overcomed by this convenient method.

Abstract:The preparation of NiO and CoO nanoparticles was reported. The dot-like NiO and flower-like CoO nanoparticles were obtained using M2+-oleate (M = Ni, Co) as precursor via thermal decomposition method. Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) images monitored the growth of NiO and CoO nanoparticles. When the reaction complex including M2+-oleate (M = Ni, Co) precursor, oleic acid and 1-octadecene was heated to the refluxing temperature (320°C), the formed NiO and CoO nanoparticles were needle-like and very small, indicating low growth speed. However, when the reaction complex was kept refluxing for 30min, dot-like NiO and flower-like CoO nanoparticles were observed, suggesting the accelerated growth at this refluxing stage. The difference of the morphology of the resultant NiO and CoO nanoparticles resulted from the difference of their growth mode. Selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns showed the face-centered cubic structures of NiO and CoO nanoparticles. The magnetic property of the nanoparticles was studied using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM).

Abstract:Nano-sized ZnO with small particle size,uniform size distribution and less agglomeration was synthesized by direct precipitation method under ultrasonic radiation with Zn(NO3)2 and anhydrous Na2CO3 as the raw materials,cetrimonium bromide(CTAB) as surface active agent.The product was charactered by TG-DTA,XRD and SEM,then the optimum condition of synthesis was found.Meanwhile,the prepared ZnO nano-particals were modified with oleic acid.The principle of modification was discussed simply by FT-IR method etc.and the effect of modification was analyzed by measuring activation index.

Abstract:NiO nano-particles with diameter of 10–15 nm are prepared by air-calcination of Ni(OH)2·NiCO3·xH2O precipitated from aqueous solution containing NiCl2 as the nickel source and NH4HCO3 as the precipitation agent. Zeta potential analysis shows that a moderate alkaline (pH<9) environment is preferential for the dispersion of Ni(OH)2·NiCO3·xH2O and NiO nano-particles.

Abstract:Ultra-fine yttrium oxide(Y2O3) particles were prepared by ultrasonic-quenching-homogeneous precipitation method with Y(NO3)3(yttrium nitrate) and CO(NH2)2(carbamide) as raw materials,and the synthesis and calcinations process of yttrium oxide precursor-Y(OH)CO3 had been studied in detail.The influences of the cluster appeared in synthesizing,drying and calcining the precursor on Y2O3 particle size were discussed.The combination of ultrasonic and quenching techniques restrained the cluster of synthesizing Y2O3 precursor.The cluster in drying and calcining precursor process was successfully solved by adding CTMAB and(NH4)2SO4.The products were characterized by XRD,SEM and DTA-TG.Results showed that ultra-fine Y2O3 with particle size 7～15 nm could be prepared under a certain process condition.The XRD test result showed that the synthesized were body-centered cubic form.

Abstract:Amorphous Ni-P ultrafine particles with no Ni(OH)2 as impurity have been prepared by chemical reduction method, i.e. by the reaction of the aqueous solutions of nickel chloride and sodium hypophosphite. Among factors such as the initial pH value of the reaction system, additives and the reaction time, it has been shown that the initial pH value is the most important in determining the yield and the properties of the products. The products have been characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, and DSC, and the results revealed that, with an initial pH value of 11, amorphous Ni-P ultrafine particles with the average diameter of ca. 150 nm and relatively even chemical and topological distribution can be obtained.
