Abstract:The microenvironments including the surface hydroxyls, the oxygen vacancies, and the d-band center of hierarchical TS-1 zeolite pickled by hydrochloric acid were regulated by ZrO2, the effect of ZrO2 on the physicochemical properties and the catalytic performances of the corresponding NiMoS supported catalysts were studied. The experimental and theoretical calculation results show that the d-band center, the surface hydroxyl groups, and the oxygen vacancies were regulated after incorporation of ZrO2. Resulting in the modulated acidity of the support and the metal support interaction of the catalysts, further promoting the formation of type-II NiMoS active phases. The catalytic performance evaluations show that catalyst NiMo/1-ZAT exhibits the superior HDS performance, kinetic study further demonstrated that the enhanced catalytic activity was mainly contributed by the improved direct desulfurization activity generated from the moderate support acidity, suitable MSI, highest sulfidation degrees, most type-II NiMoS active phase and highest activity of individual active sites.

Abstract:A series of bulk and supported NiB amorphous alloy catalysts with different particle sizes were prepared by different chemical reduction methods. By adding a certain volume of NH3 to the reaction system and adjusting the reaction temperature, respectively, the velocity of the reaction between Ni2+ and BH4 - could be controlled and the NiB alloys with particle sizes ranging from 10 to 400nm were obtained. A novel method to prepare the supported NiB catalyst, the powder electroless plating method was also studied. The bulk and supported NiB catalysts were characterized by XRD, ICP and TEM. Hydrogenation of sulfolene was selected as the probe reaction to investigate their catalytic performance. The results revealed that the NiB/MgO prepared by Ag inducing electroless plating showed much higher catalytic activity than Raney Ni catalyst, and the powder electroless plating was a promising method to prepare the supported NiB amorphous alloy catalysts.

Abstract:In the present paper, we report on a novel procedure for preparing high performance Raney-Ni catalysts, which includes preparation of Ni–Al ribbons by melt-quenching, pretreatment with hydrogen and activation through Al leaching with sodium hydroxide solution. The resultant catalyst exhibits about five times high activity in the catalytic hydrogenation of cyclohexanone than that of the Raney-Ni catalyst obtained by a conventional preparation method. The structural variations of the catalyst caused by the different pretreatments were characterized by XRD, SEM and XPS. As demonstrated, melt-quenching and H2-pretreatment play a crucial role for forming the certain structure being composed of a high density of Ni2Al3 phase, which, in the subsequent leaching process, benefit to form ultra-uniform Raney-Ni catalyst with large surface areas. Metallic Al in hydrogen-pretreated alloys appears to be more easily leached, remaining aluminum as the dominant Al-related species on the surface, which acts as a matrix stabilizing the highly dispersed Ni and consequently improving the activity of cyclohexanone hydrogenation.

Abstract:Core-shell structured zeolites with ZSM-5 as core and dendritic SiO2 as shell were successfully prepared using cetyltrimetylammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant, urea as alkaline source and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as silicate source in the microemulsion system composed of cyclohexane and n-pentanol. The effects of the preparation conditions such as temperature, time, addition of urea and TEOS on the preparation of the catalyst were investigated. The zeolites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption. The results indicated that the obtained core-shell structured zeolites exhibited excellent monodispersity, integrity and hydrothermal stability when the preparation temperature was between 100-120℃ , reaction time was 4 h, the molar ratio of urea to TEOS was 1 and the molar ratio of TEOS to ZSM-5 was 0.9-1.2. Finally, the noble metal Pt was loaded on the dendritic mesoporous SiO2 shell and the obtained bifunctional catalysts of Pt/ZSM-5@MS exhibited high catalytic activity and reusability in the one-pot preparation of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) from acetone.

Abstract:Abstract The sintering of supported metal nanoparticles is a major route to the deactivation of industrial heterogeneous catalysts, which largely increase the cost and decrease the productivity. Here, we discover that supported palladium/gold/platinum nanoparticles distributed at the interface of oxide supports and nitrogen-doped carbon shells would undergo an unexpected nitrogen-doped carbon atomization process against the sintering at high temperatures, during which the nanoparticles can be transformed into more active atomic species. The in situ transmission electron microscopy images reveal the abundant nitrogen defects in carbon shells provide atomic diffusion sites for the mobile atomistic palladium species detached from the palladium nanoparticles. More important, the catalytic activity of sintered and deactivated palladium catalyst can be recovered by this unique N-doped carbon atomization process. Our findings open up a window to preparation of sintering-resistant single atoms catalysts and regeneration of deactivated industrial catalysts.

Abstract:Different factors, e.g. the treatment temperature, the internal donor (ID), the morphology of support and the sequence of adding the reagents, in preparation of spherical Ziegler-Natta catalyst were investigated. Their influence on the amount of titanium loading and the morphology of the prepared catalyst were evaluated. It is found that the treatment temperature, times of treatment with TiCl4, ID and particle size of the MgCl2 support play important roles in determining the Ti loading amount.

Abstract:The influence of mass ratio of pseudo-boehmite to Ni-Al alloy,nitric acid concentration,mass ratio of water to powder and calcination temperature on the strength of the catalysts was investigated.The catalysts were characterized by XRD and TG-DTA.The results illustrated that the compressive strength of the catalysts increased first and then decreased with the enhancement of mass ratio of pseudo-boehmite to Ni-Al alloy,nitric acid concentration,mass ratio of water to powder and calcination temperature.The catalyst with optimal strength was prepared under the condition as follows: mass ratio of pseudo-boehmite to Ni-Al alloy 1.5,nitric acid mass fraction 6%,mass ratio of water to powder 0.21 mL.g-1 and calcination temperature 860 ℃.The catalytic performance of the catalyst was evaluated using the hydrogenation of styrene and methylstyrene as the probe reaction.The results showed that the conversion rate of both styrene and methylstyrene could reached 100% approximately under the condition of reaction pressure 2 MPa,reaction temperature 80 ℃,reaction time 500 h,raw material space velocity 2 h-1,and V(H2) ∶ V(oil) = 300 ∶ 1.Furthermore,the catalyst stability could be maintained excellently during the whole evaluation process.

Abstract:Strong metal-support interactions (SMSIs), characterized by the encapsulation of metal nanoparticles by the support oxide, have a significant impact on various heterogeneous catalytic reactions. In this study, we present our investigations on tuning the catalytic performance of CO2 hydrogenation through regulating the SMSI in a Ni/Sm2O3 catalyst. Our results demonstrate that the complete encapsulation of Ni nanoparticles with amorphous Sm2O3, achieved through H-2 reduction, leads to nearly full selectivity to CO. In contrast, with controlled in situ thermal postannealing in an H-2/CO2/N-2 mixture, the encapsulated Sm2O3 layer can be partially removed and crystallized, as revealed by atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy analyses, which results in enhanced activity and a full selectivity toward CH4. In addition, the prolonged postannealing durations completely remove the Sm2O3 overlayer, causing a decline in CO2 methanation activity. These findings underscore the critical role of the SMSI effect in CO2 hydrogenation activity and offer valuable insights for regulating SMSI to produce targeted value-added chemicals.

Abstract:The preparation of the novel Raney-Ni by leaching Ni-Al starting alloys which prepared by melt-quenching and pretreatment was studied by XRD, SEM and EDAX. The existence of particles with the smaller size of crystallite and more contents of Ni2Al3 phase in the melt-quenched starting alloys result in the structure in which more Ni2Al3 phase exist in the bulk and less NiAl3 on the top layer, thus the migration of Al component from bulk to top layer become the rate-controlling step in the leaching process., leaving more Ni2Al3 residue and making the active nickel disperse on the residual Ni2Al3 uniformly.

Abstract:We have successfully prepared a series of magnetically separable "quasi-homogeneous" Pd-Ni nanoalloy catalysts with tunable composition in a one-pot wet chemical route. We have evaluated the catalytic activity of these Pd-Ni alloy catalysts with different compositions through the Miyaura-Suzuki coupling reaction. These palladium/non-noble metal alloy catalysts show better catalytic activity than an equal amount of palladium nanoparticles. Furthermore, these catalysts exhibited excellent I performance in superparamagnetism owing to its great advantage for reducing the usage of noble metal.

Abstract:This note reports a successful preparation of a new catalyst particles through the reaction between Ni2+ and H2PO2- in aqueous solution at room temperature. X-ray diffraction pattern indicates that the particles are in amorphous and alloying state. Transmission electron micrograph shows that the particles are spherial and the size distribution is very narrow. The average diameter of the particles is determined to be about 100nm which is a "ultrafine" scale.

Abstract:Benzene hydrogenation was used as a test reaction for the ultrafine amorphous Ni-P catalysts prepared by chemical reduction, The results show that the preparation temperature and initial pH of the solutions strongly affect their structures and the activities of benzene hydrogenation, XAFS and DTA were employed to characterize the structures of the amorphous Ni-P alloys prepared under different conditions and annealed at various temperatures, It was found that an abrupt decrease of the catalytic activity was observed at the annealing temperature of about 300 degrees C, which corresponds to the crystallization temperature of the amorphous Ni-P alloy catalysts.

Abstract:Chabazite supported Cu is a promising catalyst platform for implementing a NH3/urea-based Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to remove hazardous NOx gases from lean-burn engine exhaust. Whereas in-depth spectroscopic and other studies have attempted to identify key features of the catalytic cycle previously, a deep understanding of the SCR mechanism amenable to systematic improvement of catalyst performance remains elusive. For example, neither the precise Cu coordination geometry at the active site nor the substrate binding affinities to the catalytic center are known. To establish a more rational approach to catalyst optimization based on the thermodynamics and kinetics of the key steps of the underlying NOx-transformations we developed a quantum chemical model and benchmarked it to match vibrational data from Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform spectroscopy resulting in plausible assignments of each observable intermediate to specific oxidation states of Cu and NO-binding properties. Among these intermediates, we identified the structure of a lattice supported NO+ cation species, expected to be reactive towards NH3, corresponding to a high frequency IR-absorption at 2170cm−1. This approach enables a more precise assignment of the experimental vibrational data to key intermediates potentially involved in the catalytic cycle in order to develop a micromechanistic proposal for the catalysis that is chemically meaningful and is logically consistent.
Exploring the Influence of Nickel Precursors on Constructing Efficient Ni-based CO2 Methanation Catalysts Assisted with In-Situ Technologies

Abstract:In this work, a series of Ni-based CO2 methanation catalysts were prepared with different nickel salt precursors. The Ni-AA catalyst with nickel acetylacetonate precursor displayed the highest activity among these catalysts. The in-situ diffused reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in-situ DRIFTS) and the online-tandem thermogravimetric mass spectrometry (TG-MS) were performed to investigate the intermediates of the catalyst calcination process. The superior performance of the Ni-AA catalyst could be derived from its special coordinating anion. Furthermore, the rapid deactivation of the Ni-S catalyst with nickel sulfate precursor was attributed to the generation of the Ni3S2 after reduction pretreatment. As for the Ni-Cl catalyst with nickel chloride precursor, its negligible activity could be owing to poisoning effect of the Cl- by the coverage of the catalyst surface. Therefore, the significant role of the metal salt precursor should be preferentially considered when designing the Ni-based catalysts and even other metal based heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:Ni-modified ZSM-5 zeolites with different nickel contents were successfully prepared by the in situ synthesis method and the impregnation method. The synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, N 2 adsorption–desorption isothermals, and Py-FTIR. The characterization results show that both the textural properties and crystallization of Ni-modified ZSM-5 zeolites were preserved well, and their acidic properties can be modulated after nickel modification. The corresponding NiMo catalysts supported on Ni-modified ZSM-5 zeolites were prepared by the incipient wetness co-impregnation method, and their catalytic performances were evaluated in n -octane hydroconversion. Compared to the those modified by the in situ synthesis method, ZSM-5 zeolite-supported catalysts modified by the impregnation method exhibit higher stability and higher isomerization selectivity. This is due to the synergistic effect between Brønsted acid sites and Lewis acid sites on the Ni-modified ZSM-5 zeolites, especially for the NiMo/1Ni-Z5 catalyst.
