Abstract:Let f: C --> C denote a transcendental entire function and let m(r, f) equal min{\f(z)\:\z\ = r}. In this note, we mainly prove that if[GRAPHICS]then the set of normality N(f) of f has no unbounded preperiodic and periodic components. In particular, f has no Baker domains. We also discuss non-existence of unbounded components of normality under other conditions.

Abstract: This paper is devoted to establish sufficient conditions under which a transcendental meromorphic function has no unbounded Fatou components and to extend some results for entire functions to meromorphic functions. Actually, we shall mainly discuss non-existence of unbounded wandering domains of a meromorphic function. The case for a composition of finitely many meromorphic function with at least one of them being transcendental can be also investigated in the argument of this paper.

Abstract:Let M and N be compact Riemannian manifolds. To prove the global existence and convergence of the heat flow for harmonic maps between M and N, it suffices to show the nonexistence of harmonic spheres and nonexistence of quasi-harmonic spheres. In this paper, we prove that, if the universal covering of N admits a nonnegative strictly convex function with polynomial growth, then there are no quasi-harmonic spheres nor harmonic spheres. This generalizes the famous Eells–Sampson’s theorem (Am J Math 86:109–169, [7]).

Abstract:In this paper we make a further discussion of a relationship between the number of fixed-points and distribution of singular values along the round annuli centered at the origin of a transcendental meromorphic function. To attain our purpose we first establish a fundamental inequality for the modulus of derivative of a holomorphic covering mapping whose image is an annulus by virtue of the hyperbolic metric. The inequality is of independent significance. We make a simple survey on some domain constants for hyperbolic domains.

Abstract:We investigate uniform perfectness of the Julia set of a transcendental meromorphic function with finitely many poles and prove that the Julia set of such a meromorphic function is not uniformly perfect if it has only bounded components. The Julia set of an entire function is uniformly perfect if and only if the Julia set including infinity is connected and every component of the Fatou set is simply connected. Furthermore if an entire function has a finite deficient value in the sense of Nevanlinna, then it has no multiply connected stable domains. Finally, we give some examples of meromorphic functions with uniformly perfect Julia sets.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we prove that for a transcendental meromorphic function f(z) on the complex plane, the inequality T(r, f) < 6N (r, 1/(f2 f(k)−1)) + S(r, f) holds, where k is a positive integer. Moreover, we prove the following normality criterion: Let ℱ be a family of meromorphic functions on a domain D and let k be a positive integer. If for each ℱ ∈ ℱ, all zeros of ℱ are of multiplicity at least k, and f2 f(k) ≠ 1 for z ∈ D, then ℱ is normal in the domain D. At the same time we also show that the condition on multiple zeros of f in the normality criterion is necessary.

Abstract:A question of F. Kwakkel and V. Markovic on existence of C^1-diffeomorphisms of closed surfaces that permute a dense collection of domains with bounded geometry is answered in the negative. In fact, it is proved that for closed surfaces of genus at least one such diffeomorphisms do not exist regardless of whether they have positive or zero topological entropy.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of a broader class of functions which are meromorphic outside a compact totally disconnected set. We shall establish the connections between the Fatou components and the singularities of the inverse function and, accordingly, give sufficient conditions for the non-existence of wandering domains or Baker domains, and for the Julia set to be the Riemann sphere. Through the discussion of permutability of such functions, we shall construct several transcendental ineromorphic functions which have Baker domains and wandering domains with special properties; for example, wandering and Baker domains with a critical value on the boundary and a wandering domain with the boundary being a Jordan curve (some such examples for entire functions were exhibited in other papers) and those of non-finite type which have no wandering domains.
