Abstract:A significant drop in the resistance around 250K [1] and 230K [2] were repeatedly observed in the above experiments on superconducting Hg-based compounds. We report here the electrical resistivity measurements on pure (as determined by X-ray powder technique) Hg-1223 phase, which has shown a partial or total drop in resistivity around 200K but with no significant observation of diamagnetic signal. We are sure that the drop in resistance for our Hg-based compounds at 200K is not due to the presence of liquid Mercury or Hg-Au alloys in the sample since our samples did not contain any Hg-Au alloys. We rather believe that the drop in resistivity is due to superconductivity or other mechanisms.

Abstract:The resistive transition width of a recently discovered room temperature near-ambient-pressure superconductor [1] changes by more than three orders of magnitude between different samples, with the transition temperature nearly unchanged. For the narrowest transitions, the transition width relative to $T_c$ is only $0.014 \%$. The voltage-current characteristics indicate vanishing critical current, and the normal state resistance is unusually small. These anomalous behaviors and other issues indicate that this system is not a superconductor. Implications for other hydrides are discussed.

Abstract:The reproducibility of in superconductive BiSrCaCuO is known to be very poor. In our study, the reproducibility was found to depend greatly on preparation conditions. DTA, TGA and powder X-ray diffraction methods were used to study the BiSrCaCuO superconductors prepared by different routes. Resistivity and diamagnetic susceptibility were taken as the measure of superconductivity. It was found that those superconductors prepared from the oxides/carbonates (one-step) process resulted in scattered data which were less reproducible. The two-step synthesis from precalcined precursors of Bi-Sr-O and Sr-Ca-Cu-0 containing mixtures, resulted in a much improved reproducibility with the predominant = 80 K superconducting phase (more than 95%). It was also found that the amount of = 115 K phase tends to decrease after repeated pulverization and sintering, leading to a single 80 K phase state. Compaction of the pulverized powder at a pressure > 4.5 ton cm was found to induce a preferred (00) orientation during sintering.
