Abstract:Low-cost porous ceramic from fly ash with alumina as the pore-forming agent was produced. The effect of the alumina content on line shrink, bulk density, mechanical strength, porosity, and phase composition of porous ceramic were investigated in detail. The results showed that the addition of alumina can help to improve the porosity and then it can change the pore structure of porous ceramic. Meanwhile, the addition of alumina can react with SiO2 in fly ash which can form the mullite. With the increase of alumina content, the content of quartz decreased gradually, while the alumina and mullite increased. Furthermore, the pore size becomes uniform and the permeability increased gradually. After sintering at 1250 ℃ for 0.5 h, the porous ceramic has been obtained the bending strength of ≥ 35MPa and the porosity of ≥ 28% with the addition content of alumina (25 wt%).

Abstract:A new kind of thermal insulation material has been made using fly ash as main material by the method of foaming and slip casting.We investigated the effects of the solid loading,raw material ratio,additive amount of foaming agent and sintering temperature on the properties of porous thermal insulation material by orthogonal experiment in order to achieve the optimal technologic parameters.The results show that the solid loading has the greatest influence on this insulation material and the sintering temperature and additive amount of foaming agent have the relatively small effect.With solid loading of 35wt%and 80wt%of fly ash,15wt%of waste glass,5wt% of clay and 0.3wt% of foaming agent added,material with compressive strength of0.63 MPa and porosity of 91.1%could be prepared at the sintering temperature of 950℃,thermal conductivity of 0.0597W/(m.K)owned.This research has a great significance on the reutilization of fly ash and external wall insulation.

Abstract:Fly ash, a byproduct of coal-fired thermal power stations, is among the most intricate artificially produced substances. The challenge of its suitable disposal has emerged as both an ecological issue and a squandering of potentially resources. Fly ash has good pozzolanic activity and contains reactive Al and Si components, it has the potential to dissolve under alkaline conditions to form a dense green gel, i.e. alkali activated binder. But, the widespread implementation of fly ash from different sources in generation of products is constrained by the heterogeneity of raw-material supply. In this work, physical performances, chemical-compositions, microstructures, element distribution, crystal structure, chemical-bonds, glassy content, as well as existence form of glassy-phases of eleven fly ashes sourced from different province in China were investigated via FESEM-EDS, XPS, XRD-Rietveld, FTIR, TEM NMR analysis. Then, a reactivity index of fly ash (R value) that concerned the effects of both initial state, particle morphology, internal composition was proposed. R value has been demonstrated to exhibit high predictive accuracy (R2 = 0.81–0.93) for predicting the strengths development of alkali activated products prepared with different activator modules, especially at early period. A further eleven literature datasets were utilized to validated against the accuracy of the predictions. R value facilitates an effective evaluation of fly ashes' fitness for fabricating high-strength alkali activated composites.

Abstract:China has ranked first in the coal fly ash emission in the world. The multipurpose use of the fly ash from power plant waste is always an important topic for the Chinese environmental protection, which has drawn the concern of the government, scientific research departments, manufacturing enterprises and industry experts. This paper introduces an experimental research on how to recycle fly ash effectively, a kind of new technology of making bricks by which fly ash content could be amounted to 50–80 %. The article introduces raw materials of fly ash brick, production process and key control points. It introduces how to change the technical parameters of the existing brick-making mechanical device, optimize the parameters combination and improve the device performance. High-content fly ash bricks are manufactured, which selects wet fly ash from power plants, adding aggregate with reasonable ratio and additives with reasonable dosage, and do the experimental research on manufactured products for properties, production technology and selection about technology parameters of production equipment. All indexes of strength grade, freezing-thawing resisting, and other standards of the studied bricks reached the national standards for building materials industry.

Abstract:In this paper, fly ash and coal gangue as the main raw materials, potassium feldspar-albite as the composite flux, phosphogypsum as the bonding agent, the semi-melting method was used to prepare fly ash-coal gangue-phosphogypsum based wall insulation material, the effect of composite flux ratio and the amount of coal gangue added on the melting temperature of wall insulation material was studied. Through the visual of high-temperature deformation analyzer to observe the volume contraction, expansion, passivation, and globalization of different formulations of specimens at high temperatures, and record the corresponding temperatures of the occurrence of various situations, to study the composite flux ratio and gangue addition on the fly ash-gangue-phosphogypsum based wall insulation material melting temperature of the impact, to determine the appropriate ratio of the flux and the gangue addition for the solid waste-based will provide a theoretical basis for the preparation of solid waste-based wall insulation materials. The research results indicate that with the increase of coal gangue content, the initial melting temperature, spheroidization temperature, and passivation temperature of the sample all sharply decrease. With the increase of potassium feldspar: albite, the melting temperature range will significantly increase. When the additional amount of fly ash is 50%, the additional amount of coal gangue is 12%, the additional amount of phosphogypsum is 5%, and the ratio of potassium feldspar to albite is 1:1, the sintering temperature of the fly ash- gangue -phosphogypsum based wall insulation material is the lowest.

Abstract:Fly ash based refractory materialsas were prepared using fly ash(from a coal power plant in Anning City) as the main raw material and sludge and industrial alumina the auxiliary materials.viability of their industrial application was analyzed theoretically.The microstructure was analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques.On the basis of meeting the national standard ,we tried to explore the best sintering temperature range.The results show that at sintering temperature of 1300 ℃ and fly ash content of 68%,the incorporation,porosity,water absorption,compressive strength,flexural strength,refractoriness,permanent heating of the product meets the national standard.XRD results indicate that the higher the sintering temperature (1100-1300 ℃),the more and stronger the mullite peaks became.SEM results show that when the sintering temperature is increased from 1100 ℃ to 1300 ℃,the dominant shape of mullite shifted from neddle to columnar.At the temperature of 1300 ℃,dense mullite structure is observed.In comparison,when the sintering temperature is 1400 ℃,less columnar in loose mullite structure is found.

Abstract:Fly ash is waste which severely affected the healthy of people. To utilize it, the mineralogy properties must be studied. By using multielement chemical analysis, the principle chemical composition was analyzed. By using X-ray, electron probe, spectrum analysis testing methods, the cenospheres which are the main component of fly ash surface morphology and the differences of the components were mainly studied. The research indicated that the fly ash is a high quality material which can be used in the engineering construction.

Abstract:The improving influence of fine fly ash on the properties of low-quality cement is investigated.The results show that concrete which meets the design requirement can be easily produced by complex binder material of low-quality cement and fine fly ash.The concrete produced by complex binder material can meet the design compressive strength,and it also has higher splitting tensile strength and higher density.Meanwhile,the late-age performance of concrete produced by complex binder material is significantly improved.

Abstract:Recently, various solid wastes such as sewage sludge, coal fly ash and slag have been recycled into various products such as sintered bricks, ceramics and cement concrete. Application of these recycling approaches is much better and greener than conventional landfills since it can solve the problems of storage of industrial wastes and reduce exploration of natural resources for construction materials to protect the environment. Therefore, in this study, an attempt was made to recycle oil shale fly ash (OSFA), a by-product obtained from the extracting of shale oil in the oil shale industry, into a value-added glass-ceramic material via melting and sintering method. The influence of basicity (CaO/SiO2 ratio) by adding calcium oxide on the performance of glass-ceramics was studied in terms of phase transformation, mechanical properties, chemical resistances and heavy metals leaching tests. Crystallization kinetics results showed that the increase of basicity reduced the activation energies of crystallization but did not change the crystallization mechanism. When increasing the basicity from 0.2 to 0.5, the densification of sintering body was enhanced due to the promotion of viscous flow of glass powders, and therefore the compression strength and bending strength of glass-ceramics were increased. Heavy metals leaching results indicated that the produced OSFA-based glass-ceramics could be taken as non-hazardous materials. The maximum mechanical properties of compression strength of 186 ± 3 MPa, bending strength of 78 ± 6 MPa, good chemical resistances and low heavy metals leaching concentrations showed that it could be used as a substitute material for construction applications. The proposed approach will be one of the potential sustainable solutions in reducing the storage of oil shale fly ash as well as converting it into a value-added product.

Abstract:The utilization of oil shale ash in developing environmentally sustainable filling materials for subterranean mines presents a promising ecological approach, albeit with typically low ash content. In this study, the filling material was prepared by adding oil shale ash and slag. The study examines the physical and mechanical properties of filling materials predominantly composed of oil shale ash slag, sourced from the Baoming open-pit mine in Jimusar, Xinjiang. Comprehensive testing and analysis are conducted to examine the chemical composition, mineral composition, and particle grading of oil shale ash, cement, and fly ash. The research prepared 45 cubic specimens measuring 50 mm × 50 mm × 50 mm and analyzed their mechanical responses under uniaxial compression conditions, employing varying dosages of ash, cementitious materials, and water as critical variables. The results indicate that the primary constituents of oil shale ash are silica (SiO 2 ) and aluminum trioxide (Al 2 O 3 ). When the oil shale ash content ranges from 60 to 70%, with a cement-fly ash ratio of 7:1 and a water content of 11%, the filling material attains its highest average compressive strength of 16.37 MPa at 28 days. Furthermore, increased cement content in the cementitious material correlates with higher compressive strength in the filling material. This research underscores the potential of oil shale ash–based green mining filling materials to restore goaf.
