Abstract:Heated by microwave,with ferrous sulfate,a by-product in the production of titanium pigment,as principal raw material and sodium chlorate as oxidizer,liquid polymeric ferric sulfate(PFS) can be synthesized in a few minutes,by adjusting the mole ratio of ferrous ion and sulfate ion.And then,if phosphate ion is added into the liquid,the flocculation agent of polyphosphate ferric sulfate(PPFS) can be synthesized.The optimal systemizing conditions are discussed.Better conditions for depositing lead from waste water,such as acidity,temperature,dosage,concentration and sedimentation time,are discussed and optimized.And it is confirmed that good results can be achieved by using this flocculation agent.

Abstract:Polymeric ferric phosphoric sulfate was prepared by biological oxidation method using a by-product of titanium pigment as principal raw material.The influence of some factors such as initial Fe2+ concentration,pH,temperature and inoculation concentration on growth of bacteria and oxidation of Fe2+ was examined.The results showed that bacteria has the highest activity at the conditions of initial Fe2+ concentration of 8.52 g/L,pH 2,culture temperature of 35 ℃ and inoculation concentration of 10%.Different preparation parameters such as n(PO3-4)/n(Fe)、n(OH-)/n(Fe) which influenced the fractal dimension of polymeric ferric phosphoric sulfate was examined.The fractal dimension of Floc was largest and the flocculation was best when the n(PO3-4)/n(Fe) was 0.05 and the n(OH-)/n(Fe) was 0.4.The flocculation agent applied for disposing experiment simulated wastewater Kaolin solution produced better effects than PFS.

Abstract:Polyferric sulphate(PFS),as a new kind of highly efficient inorganic polymer flocculants,has strong capacities of turbidity removal,decolorization,and the removal of organic pollutants and heavy metal. In recent years it has been widely applied to water treatment. The preparation of PFS is introduced,the preparation technology of PFS made from different raw materials are summarized,their characteristics are analyzed and compared,the optimum preparation method of PFS is given. And,at the same time,the development foreground and research emphasis of modified PFS are looked ahead.

Abstract:A novel inorganic polymer flocculant, poly-ferric sulfate (BPFS) was prepared by oxidation of ferrous sulfate using domestic Thiobacillus ferrooxidans (T·f) under acid condition. The optimal conditions for the preparation were pH value of 1.5, (NH4)2SO4 dosage of 0.5 g/L, initial Fe2+ concentration of 45g/L, inoculum 10%, rotating speed of 120 r/min, reaction time of 5-6 d and reaction temperature of 30 °C. Under the optimal conditions, the BPFS product with pH value of 1.5-2.2, basicity of 17.5%-22.7% and total iron content of 43.87-45.24 g/L was obtained. The application of the BPFS to three wastewaters was carried out, and the removal efficiencies of COD, decolorization and Zn2+ by BPFS can be reached 70%, 90% and 99%, respectively. The result suggests that the BPFS is an excellent flocculant for water treatment.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new approach to synthesize polymeric ferric sulfate (PFS). It was found that the basicity and stability of the synthesized PFS varied with the quantity of sulfuric acid used. The minimum amount of sulfuric acid needed for the synthesis of PFS to insure a residual Fe2+ concentration in the product lower than 0.1 wt% is about 31.0 wt% of the stoichiometric requirement. However, to produce a stable product which can be stored for six months, the amount of sulfuric acid should be 51.7 and 62.0 wt% of the stoichiometric requirement for PFS produced at 55 and 85C, respectively. The structure of PFS depended on the synthesis temperature, as observed through x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. A comparison of the coagulation performance of PFS and ferric sulfate (FS) showed that PFS is, in general, more effective than FS in reducing the turbidity of Kaolinite suspensions for various conditions.

Abstract:Based on the strong polymeric role of phosphate (PO4-) on the PFS, PO4(3-) was introduced in the ferric sulfate (PFS), and a new type of composite flocculant polymeric phosphate ferric sulfate (PPFS) was developed. The study includes the preparation of PPFS, and erric species distribution in PFSS was investigated by ultraviolet-visible spectrum method, infrared spectrum method and Fe-ferron complexation timed spectrophotometry method. The ultraviolet-visible spectrum showed that the change in the spectral curve of the different pH polymer ferric sulfate flocculants is corresponding to the flocculation morphology. Infrared spectra showed that the -P-O or -P=O vibration exists in the PPFS, certificated the ferric ion in PFS and phosphate caused the reaction, and produced the phosphate ferric polymer; and Fe-ferron complexation timed spectrophotometry showed that the amount of Fe(c) in polymeric phosphate ferric sulfate (PPFS) flocculants was the most in the three species, while the amount of Fe(a) and Fe(b) was small, that is PPFS mainly exists in the form of phosphate ferric polymer.

Abstract:The preparation of solid polymerized ferric sulfate (SPFS) was conducted by using the ferrous sulfate (FeSO4) as raw material and potassium chlorate (KCIO3) as oxidant. The influences of parameters such as the amount of raw materials, reaction temperature, reaction time, drying temperature, vacuum degree for drying process on products were investigated. Experimental results show that the SPFS product with high alkalinity degree and good stability, shape, color and luster can be prepared under following conditions: water weight 25 g, ferrous sulfate 350 g, molar ratio of ferrous sulfate and sulfuric acid 1.0:0.1, reaction temperature 55-60°C, reaction time 90 minutes, drying temperature 55-60°C and vacuum degree 0.09 MPa. The experiments of depositing time displayed that polymerized ferric sulfate is better to be dried right after it is produced. The recommended suitable preparation conditions were obtained based on the result of orthogonal test.

Abstract:Polymeric phosphate ferric sulfate （PPFS）,a new improved coagulation reagent,was prepared by polymeric ferric sulfate （PFS）,Na2HPO4 and NaOH. The degree of iron polymerisation （Fepol） of PPFS was determined by means of the ferron-timed spectroscopy method. Furthermore,the effect of n（P）/n（Fe）,alkalization degree,pH value,and PPFS dosage on the removal rate of eutrophic water turbidity and chl-a and ζ-potential of products were also investigated. The experimental results show that the best n（P）/n（Fe） of flocculation effect in stable product of PFFS is 0.3; the best alkalization degree of flocculation effect is 0.2,while the n（P）/n（Fe） is 0.3. Under the neutral and subalkalic （pH value is 7-8） conditions,PPFS achieves the best processing efficiency. PPFS has more excellent turbidity and higher chlorophyl removal rate by studying treatment eutrophic water in comparison with PFS.

Abstract:A study of the method of using green copperas (FeSO4.7H(2)O), sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4) for inorganic polymer flocculant polyferric silicate sulfate (PFSS) is conducted. The effects of w(SiO2%) in Na2SiO3 solution, n(Fe)/n(Si), silicic acid activated time and pH value on the synthesis of PFSS are investigated. The method of preparing PFSS includes following steps: (i) preparation of polyferric sulfate (PFS); (ii) preparation of polymeric silicic acid; (iii) PFS mixture with polymeric silicic acid at a given condition. According to this study, with 0.3ml/L PFSS for treatment of raw water from the Yangtze River, removal rate of turbidity and permanganate index are up to 95% and 90% respectively. The optimum synthesizing parameters of PFSS are: w(SiO2%)= 2.0%, n(Fe)/n(Si)= 10:1, silicic acid activated time= 10hours.

Abstract:Polyferric sulfate (PFS) is classified two kinds by prepared approaches: (1) alkalization preparation of polyferric sulfate (APFS), (2) oxidation preparation of polyferric sulfate (OPFS). Different properties were discussed about OPFS and APFS, such as basicity (OH/Fe 3+ ), zeta(ζ)-potential, pH. It is concluded that APFS and OPFS with same basicity have different structural feature although they have same compounds and bonds. By comparison with APFS, OPFS and ferric sulfate, OPFS has good charge neutralization capability and exhibits good coagulation performance in turbidity removal for synthetic wastewater. APFS have higher interparticle bridging capability for paper wastewater.

Abstract:These processes with FeSO4 as an absorbent,NaClO3 as an oxidant and SO2 in flue gases as raw material to synthesize flocculent agent PFS in the packed absorption column were investigated.The oxidation experiment showed that the production of consistent with national standard polymeric ferric sulfate(PFS) under the precondition of high SO2 removal efficiency is feasible.To do the research of the difference between PFS product by self-made and PFS product from industry,choosing chemical fiber wastewater from YiBin in SiChuan province,simulated turbidity wastewater by Kaolinite and wastewater containing phosphor from Wireless Ⅱ factory in LiaoNing province,the coagulation experiment of removing COD,turbidity and PO3-4 was carried out.The demand of wastewater coagulation treatment can be completed by using PFS product by self-made,and coagulation efficiency was better than PFS product from industry in removing COD,turbidity and PO3-4.
Optimization of preparation and application of PPFS by response surface methodology

Abstract:The main influencing factors for the preparation of polymeric ferric phosphoric sulfate(PPFS) were determined separately based on one-factor experiments with removal rate of TP in sewage as the measurable indicator,namely nH2SO4/nFe2+,alkalization degree and nPO3-4/nFe2+.Through Box-Behnken experiment design and response surface analysis(RSA),optimization grouping of these 3 main influencing factors was realized;a quadratic response surface model and optimum level values were obtained.It was found that the optimization grouping of the main influencing factors were as following: the ratio of nH2SO4/nFe2+ was 0.1017,alkalization degree was 12.21% and the ratio of nPO3-4/nFe2+was 0.0560.A regression analysis was utilized to evaluate the fitness of the model,which showed that the predicted TP removal rate of PPFS prepared under optimized conditions was close to the real value and the deviation was only 1.26%.
Properties and Coagulation Behaviour of Polyferric Silicate Sulphate by Different Preparation

Abstract:Polyferric silicate sulphate (PFSS) can be used in wastewater treatment as modified inorganic polymeric coagulant. Polyferric silicate sulphate is prepared through following steps: (1) alkalization of the mixture consisting of ferric sulphate and polysilicate (PFSSa) and (2) oxidation of the mixture consisting of ferrous sulphate and polysilicate (PFSSo). The typical properties (e. g., pH, zeta-potential and morphology) of PFSSa and PFSSo were characterized. The coagulation performances of the two PFSS samples were studied by using synthetic wastewater and paper wastewater. PFSSa exhibits excellent coagulation performance in comparison with PFSSo and polymeric ferric sulphate for turbidity removal. PFSSo have better ratio COD removal than PFSSa for paper wastewater treatment. It is evident that methods of production play a significant role in the structure and property of polyferric silicate sulphate coagulants.

Abstract:ynthetic tests of polyferric sulfate (PFS) is carried out in this paper. The effects of the operation temperature, pressure, dosages of sulfuric acid and catalysts on reaction rate and quality of product are investigated. The results indicate that the effect of temperature on reaction rate is like a parabola with a downward curvature, and the homologous best temperature is about 120 ℃. The reaction rate for synthesis of PFS is directly proportional to the dosage of catalysts and increases progressively with increasing dosage of sulfuric acid as well, but the rate increase will become unremarkable unless the pressure is less than 0.3 MPa. When the molar ratio of sulfuric acid to ferrous ion is in the range of 0.25—0.50, the alkalinity degree of the final product will increase with the decrease of sulfuric acid dosage. Once when the molar ratio is less than 0.25, the alkalinity degree and ferric content will remarkably decrease and a lot of ferric hydroxide precipitates.

Abstract:As one of the most important water treatment agents, polysilicate coagulant, has been playing an important role in coagulation- flocculation, but it is prone to lose stability due to self-polymerization and the forming of silica gel. Therefore, research on the preparation of stable polysilicate coagulant has attract great attention. A new method to prepare a stable polysilicate coagulant (PSPF), was proposed in this paper. Its structure and morphology were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) respectively. Fe species in PSPF was analyzed via Fe-Ferron complexation timed spectrophotometric method. The performance of PSPF was assessed by measuring micro-polluted water treatment efficiency. Primary chemicals, such as ferrous sulfate, sodium silicate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium carbonate, were used. The influence of those parameters affecting the preparation of PSPF, such as nSi/nFe, nP/nFe and nOH/nFe molar ratios were examined. The results showed that nSi/nFe of 1∶4, nP/nFe of 1∶6 and nOH/nFe of 1∶10 under 60 ℃ water bath for 30 min was the optimum condition for preparation. The FTIR spectrum indicated that PSPF was a kind of high molecular polymer, containing new groups (e.g., Si—O—Si and Fe—O—Si), which could increase the molecular weight，molecular chain and coagulation-flocculation efficiency. PSPF presented a cluster appearance similar to a network structure, which was conductive to adsorption-bridging capacity and precipitation sweeping. The increase of Fe(b) and Fe(c) as a result of Si increasing in PSPF improved the polymerization and solidification. The coagulation behaviors of PSPF that were largely affected by the coagulant dosage and pH, indicated that for pH and dosage at 6 and 8 mg·L-1, respectively, the residual turbidity and UV254 removal efficiency could achieve 0.33 NTU and 58.6%, respectively.

Abstract:A new kind of flocculant,named polymeric silicate phosphate ferrous sulfate(PSPFS),was synthesized with ferrous sulfate as main material and silicate and phosphate as additives.The influencing factors in the synthesis process of PSPFS were experimentally investigated to determine the optimal preparation conditions as follows.The mass fractions of ferrous sulfate and sodium silicate should be 55% and 15%,respectively,and the mole ratio of ferrous sulfate to hydrogen peroxide should be 1.2∶1.The oxidation temperature is 40 ℃ held for 4 h,and polymerization temperature is 60 ℃ for 2 h.Determined by homogeneous compound the optimal mole ratios of ferric ion to silicate,sulfuric acid and phosphate radical are 5.0∶1,3.2∶1 and 18.0∶1,respectively.The experimental results showed that the flocculant synthesized under the conditions mentioned above is able to remove 94.1% oil from high-viscosity oil petrification wastewater of Liaohe Pertrochemical Corporation.
Preparation and Applications of Inorganic Polymer Flocculant Poly Aluminum Ferric Sulfate

Abstract:In this paper, FeSO4∙7H2O and Al2(SO4)3∙12H2O were taken as the raw material, concentrated nitric acid as a strong oxidant and Na2HPO4 as stabilizer to produce poly aluminum ferric sulfate (PAFS) flocculants. In order to test the coagulation effect, the flocculants was applied to the removal of organic humic acid. The coagulation effect was examined with an emphasis on reaction temperature, Al/Fe molar ratio, P/Fe molar ratio and OH/(Fe + Al) mole ratio. The structure and morphology of PAFS were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR). The results show that the product have the best coagulation effect when the microwave initiation time, reaction temperature, reaction time, Al/Fe molar ratio, P/Fe molar ratio and OH/(Fe + Al) molar ratio are 5 min, 60 ̊C, 2 h, 0.4, 0.2 and 0.4, respectively. Infrared spectrum analysis shows that PAFS containing hydroxyl polymer bridging of iron and aluminum, makes a better coagulation performance. The removal rate of humic acid reachs 81% when the dosage of PAFS is 12.8 mg/L, pH value is 8, rapid stirring speed is 210 rpm, fast mixing time is 3.0 min, the slow stirring speed is 50 rpm and slow stirring time is 12 min. With the concentration of Mn2+, the removal efficiency of humic acid and fulvic acid increased.

Abstract:The mother solution of high purity ferric sulfate can be extracted by water washing, acid leaching, high-temperature aging, water leaching and removing K, Ca and Si elements with high content in sintering dust with sintering dust as raw material. Under the optimal acid leaching scheme, the leaching rate of Fe element can reach 99.8%. Subsequently, the mother solution of high purity ferric sulfate was configured to 100 ml 3 mol L−1 Fe2(SO4)3, and then add 0.1 mol FeSO4.7H2O, mixing reaction 1 h at room temperature, the liquid polyferric sulfate product can be just made. Then the liquid polyferric sulfate can be dried to SPFS product with the 17.4% base degrees at 50 °C. Through the comparison and analysis of TG, DTG and IR test results of purchased SPFS and self-made SPFS, it can be concluded that the self-made SPFS has the similar hydroxyl bridged frame structure with that of purchased SPFS. The experiment of purifying different kinds of simulated dye wastewater with self-made SPFS shows that the optimal pH range of these three dyes is 5–9 in the dye wastewater decolorization experiment and all their chrominance removal rates can reach above 96% at pH = 7.0. In addition, the adsorption isotherm of orange GGL solution is well represented by the Langmuir isotherm model in this experiment.
