Abstract:Based on the up to date development of the ultrasonic machining (USM) technology, applications and development trends of the ultrasonic machining tool are described. Automatic control including intelligent control and adaptive control, also tools in processing as an attachment and load matching system are trends in ultrasonic machining tool. The latest applications of ultrasonic machining technology in deep hole machining, ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting, ultrasonic grinding, ultrasonic milling and ultrasonic combined machining are summarized, processing accuracy and processing efficiency have got a lot of progress. The development trends and future prospect of the ultrasonic machining technology are expounded. Studying the ultrasonic cutting mechanism, ultrasonic combined machining technology and micro-ultrasonic machining technology are the trends of ultrasonic machining.

Abstract:The principle of the vibration drilling technology is introduced. The domestic and foreign status of the research and development on vibration drilling micro-hole is summarized, and the applying prospect and the existing problems are also analyzed. To solve the problems such as tool wear, machining accuracy, and surface quality of the micro-hole, a new scheme of electric hot vibration compound drilling is presented. Abstract:A new equipment of micro wire electrical discharge machining(MWEDM) was developed.The key technology of MWEDM mainly includes micro energy pulse generator with precise controlled,gap discharge states detection and controlled system,precise servo control system based on piezoelectric ceramics motors driven,constant tension winding system.The experimental research on MWEDM techniques show that utilizing micro wire electrode with diameter in 30 μm,MWEDM can machine micro slot with minimum size of 38 μm wide,and the surface roughness(Ra) is smaller than 0.1 μm,the white layer is no more than 2 μm.Micro slot,micro shaped holes and micro gear on stainless steel can be easy machined.

Abstract:Micro machining by wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) has become prosperous owing to its ability to machine conductive, exotic and high strength and temperature resistive (HSTR) materials with the scope of generating intricate shapes and profiles. In order to achieve the very high accuracy micro machining, one of the key factors is the preparation before actual machining. According to the authors' experiences and studies in micro machining by WEDM, for the first time, this paper introduces the preparation process for WEDM in micro machining. From the gauge setup, wire alignment adjustment, working coordinate setup to calibration method for rotational axis, the preparation process has been studied and introduced in detail, which forms the solid basis for high accuracy micro machining by WEDM. Experimental results show the accurate geometrical features can be fabricated based on the proposed preparation process.

Abstract:This study focuses on the development of the high-end manufacturing equipment industry in China, represented by machine tools. The machine tool referred to herein includes not only the machine tools in traditional definition, such as lathes, milling machines, planers, drilling machines, boring machines, grinders, and gear making machines, but also additive manufacturing equipment and additive-subtractive hybrid manufacturing equipment. This study analyzes the development trends of the machine tool industry in China and the globe, and then studies the problems existing in China’s machine tool industry. Compared with world’s advanced level, China’s machine tool industry still has weaknesses in (1) basic research and key technologies for ultra-precision machine tools, (2) the machining accuracy and efficiency of large-scale machine tools, (3) the reliability and accuracy retention of the whole machine performance, (4) the research and development of common technologies of the advanced additive manufacturing and hybrid manufacturing equipment, and (5) the level of intelligence of high-end machine tools. Furthermore, we propose the key direction of China’s machine tool industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan and the following five to ten years, and put forward some policy measures for the development of machine tool industry in China, including coordinating national science and technology plans with national policy supporting and evaluation systems, and establishing and strengthening the common technology collaborative innovation system for the high-end manufacturing equipment represented by machine tools.
Investigation on a Novel Surface Microstructure Wire Electrode for Improving Machining Efficiency and Surface Quality in WEDM

Abstract:Wire electrode is one of the key factors in determining the machining performance of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM), and developing high-performance wire electrode is an effective method for meeting the ever-increasing requirement of modern manufacturing industries. In this paper, a novel surface microstructure wire electrode (SMWE) is proposed to enhance the performance of WEDM. Experiment data demonstrate that, compared with brass wire electrode and zinc-coated wire electrode, SMWE increases machining efficiency by 23.9–77.8% for Inconel 718 and 14.8–38.6% for Ti6Al4V, and decreases surface roughness by 11–20% for Inconel 718 and 7–10% for Ti6Al4V, respectively. Besides, SMWE can also obtain smoother surface topography, thinner recast layer, and narrower surface cracks. Furthermore, the improvement mechanism of SMWE is revealed from different aspects. It can be found that SMWE can shorten discharge gap breaking downtime, avoid the occurrence of sparks at the same point, and promote more removed debris and heat energy to be brought out. In a word, this proposed SMWE has good popularization value for application in practical industries, and this study provides a new idea for developing high-performance wire electrode.

Abstract:High speed cutting machining is one of the important techniques of advanced manufacture.Net-shape blank machined by high speed machine tools is the development trend in manufacturing.High speed machine tools should have not only high spindle speed and high in-feed speed,but also high spindle and in-feed system acceleration.This paper discusses the concept and advantages of high speed cutting machining.It also studies both the development and application of the techniques of the foreign high speed machine tools and current conditions and development tendency of ours.The key technology and current development conditions required by high speed cutting machining of high speed machine tools,cutting tools and CNC control systems are also analyzed.In conclusion,the paper explores the application field of high speed cutting technology and its future developments in the area of high speed machining.
