Abstract:Some new results about the NBU(2) class of life distributions are obtained. Firstly, it is proved that the decreasing with time of the increasing concave ordering of the excess lifetime in a renewal process leads to the NBU(2) property of the interarrival times. Secondly, the NBU(2) class of life distributions is proved to be closed under the formation of series systems. Finally, it is also shown that the NBU(2) class is closed under convolution operation.

Abstract:NBUC class life distributions are dealt with in this paper. Firstly, a lower bound of the reliability function based upon mean and variance (both assumed finite) is presented. It is shown that the bound effectively improves “known bounds” for NBU life distributions. Secondly, a sufficient condition characterized by the excess lifetime at t>0 in a renewal process is obtained. In effect, the decreasing in convex ordering of excess lifetime may result in NBUC interarrivals. Finally, we prove that the NBUC class is preserved under the formation of the parallel system.

Abstract:Non-interactive zero-knowledge (NIZK) proof systems are very useful for statement verification without interaction in cryptography; they entail just one message, called the proof, that convinces the verifier of the truth of the statement without leaking any extra information. Many NIZK proof systems are related to quadratic residuosity languages and follow three main steps. First, the prover and the verifier sample a common reference string (CRS) in some particular form. Second, the prover proves that n is a Blum integer (BL , n = p 1 t 1 · p 2 t 2, where p 1 and p 2 are different primes both congruent to 3 modulo 4, and t 1 and t 2 are odd). Third, various statements (e.g., NQR n , OR n , AND n , T ( k , t ), and 3 SAT) can be proven by the prover based on the properties of BL . In this study, we improve the NIZK proof system for n ∈ BL based on the special distribution of the square roots modulo n and embed this proof in the third step. Moreover, we show that the CRS can be sampled more efficiently using the improved process.
Proof complexity of positive branching programs

Abstract:We investigate the proof complexity of systems based on positive branching programs, i.e. non-deterministic branching programs (NBPs) where, for any 0-transition between two nodes, there is also a 1-transition. Positive NBPs compute monotone Boolean functions, just like negation-free circuits or formulas, but constitute a positive version of (non-uniform) NL, rather than P or NC1, respectively. The proof complexity of NBPs was investigated in previous work by Buss, Das and Knop, using extension variables to represent the dag-structure, over a language of (non-deterministic) decision trees, yielding the system eLNDT. Our system eLNDT+ is obtained by restricting their systems to a positive syntax, similarly to how the 'monotone sequent calculus' MLK is obtained from the usual sequent calculus LK by restricting to negation-free formulas. Our main result is that eLNDT+ polynomially simulates eLNDT over positive sequents. Our proof method is inspired by a similar result for MLK by Atserias, Galesi and Pudlák, that was recently improved to a bona fide polynomial simulation via works of Jeřábek and Buss, Kabanets, Kolokolova and Koucký. Along the way we formalise several properties of counting functions within eLNDT+ by polynomial-size proofs and, as a case study, give explicit polynomial-size poofs of the propositional pigeonhole principle.

Abstract:Recently, Chan and Wang proved numerous congruences satisfied by $$p_{a/b}(n)$$, where $$p_{a/b}(n)$$ denotes the coefficient of $$q^n$$ in the series expansion of $$(q;q)_\infty ^{\frac{a}{b}}$$. Moreover, they presented many conjectures on the congruences for $$p_{a/b}(n)$$. In this paper, we not only prove some conjectures of Chan and Wang, but also discover new congruences for $$p_{a/b}(n)$$ in light of Ramanujan’s modular equations of fifth, seventh and thirteenth orders.

Abstract:For linear non-uniform cellular automata (NUCA) which are global perturbations of CA over an arbitrary universe, we introduce and investigate their dual linear NUCA, which are also endomorphisms over a generally infinite dimensional vector space. Generalizing results for linear CA, we show that dynamical properties namely pre-injectivity, resp. injectivity, resp. stably injectivity, resp. invertibility of a linear NUCA is equivalent to surjectivity, resp. post-surjectivity, resp. stably post-surjectivity, resp. invertibility of the dual linear NUCA. However, while bijectivity is a dual property for linear CA, it is no longer the case for linear NUCA. We prove that for linear NUCA, stable injectivity and stable post-surjectivity are precisely characterized respectively by left invertibility and right invertibility and that a linear NUCA is invertible if and only if it is pre-injective and stably post-surjective. Surprisingly, we show that linear NUCA with finite memory satisfy the shadowing property also known as the pseudo-orbit tracing property. Thus, linear NUCA can be useful for fault-tolerant computation. Applications on the dual surjunctivity are also obtained.

Abstract:Let mu be a probability distribution on the braid group B-n with n >= 3 strands. We observe that for a random walk omega(n,k) of length k on B-n, the probability that the closure (omega(n,k)) over cap is a hyperbolic link in S-3 converges to 1 as k tends to infinity. Moreover, under a mild assumption on mu, we prove the probability that the closure (omega(n,k)) over cap is a hyperbolic knot which has no nontrivial exceptional surgeries is larger than zero for k large enough. The proofs combine several recent deep results.

When the contraction parameter is a hyperbolic algebraic integer, we turn this question of absolute continuity into a question involving the ergodic theory of cocycles over domain exchange transformations.

Abstract:At CRYPTO '94, Cramer, Damgård, and Schoenmakers introduced a general technique for constructing honest-verifier zero-knowledge proofs of partial knowledge (PPK), where a prover Alice wants to prove to a verifier Bob she knows witnesses for claims out of claims without revealing the indices of those claims. Their solution starts from a base honest-verifier zero-knowledge proof of knowledge and requires to run in parallel execution of the base protocol, giving a complexity of , where is the communication complexity of the base protocol. However, modern practical scenarios require communication-efficient zero-knowledge proofs tailored to handle partial knowledge in specific application-dependent formats. In this paper, we propose a technique to compose a large class of -protocols for atomic statements into -protocols for PPK over formulae in conjunctive normal form (CNF) that overlap, in the sense that there is a common subset of literals among all clauses of the formula. In such formulae, the statement is expressed as a conjunction of clauses, each of which consists of a disjunction of literals (i.e., each literal is an atomic statement) and literals are shared among clauses. The prover, for a threshold parameter , proves knowledge of at least witnesses for distinct literals in each clause. At the core of our protocol, there is a new technique to compose -protocols for regular CNF relations (i.e., when ) that exploits the overlap among clauses and that we then generalize to formulae where providing improvements over state-of-the-art constructions.

Abstract:In this paper, we continue the study of John–Nirenberg theorems for BMO/Lipschitz spaces in the noncommutative martingale setting. As conjectured from the classical case, a desired noncommutative "stopping time" argument was discovered to obtain the distribution function inequality form of John–Nirenberg theorem. This not only provides another approach without using duality and interpolation to the results for spaces and , but also allows us to find the desired version of John–Nirenberg inequalities for spaces and . And thus we solve two open questions after (Chen et al. in Atomic decompositions for noncommutative martingales. arXiv: 2001.08775v1, math. OA, 2020; Hong and Mei in J Funct Anal 263:1064–1097, 2012). As an application, we show that Lipschitz space is also the dual space of noncommutative Hardy space defined via symmetric atoms. Finally, our results for as well as the approach seem new even going back to the classical setting.

Abstract:We study the action of the quantum group $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}_n})$ on the equivariant K-theory of affine Laumon spaces. We show that, at any highest weight away from the critical level, this can be identified with the contragredient dual Verma module of $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}_n})$, improving earlier results of Braverman-Finkelberg and Negu{ţ}. The proof uses a variant of stable envelopes first introduce by Maulik-Okounkov in the study of Nakajima quiver varieties.

Abstract:We show that the Bernoulli shift and the trivial action of a finite group $G$ on a UHF-algebra of infinite type are $KK^G$-equivalent and that the Bernoulli shift absorbs the trivial action up to conjugacy. As an application, we compute the $K$-theory of crossed products by approximately inner flips on classifiable $C^*$-algebras.

Abstract:Two new proofs are provided, offering two new perspectives on Godbersen's conjecture. One of the proofs utilizes Helly's theorem to provide a concise and elegant proof of the inequality in Godbersen's conjecture. The other proof utilizes the Brunn-Minkowski inequality to provide a completely new proof of the inclusion $-K\subset nK$ for convex bodies $K$ with centroid at the origin, thereby proving Godbersen's conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper we give upper and lower bounds as well as a heuristic estimate on the number of vertices of the convex closure of the set $$ G_n=\left\{(a,b) : a,b\in \Z, ab \equiv 1 \pmod{n}, 1\leq a,b\leq n-1\right\}. $$ The heuristic is based on an asymptotic formula of Rényi and Sulanke. After describing two algorithms to determine the convex closure, we compare the numeric results with the heuristic estimate. The numeric results do not agree with the heuristic estimate -- there are some interesting peculiarities for which we provide a heuristic explanation. We then describe some numerical work on the convex closure of the graph of random quadratic and cubic polynomials over $\mathbb{Z}_n$. In this case the numeric results are in much closer agreement with the heuristic, which strongly suggests that the the curve $xy=1\pmod{n}$ is ``atypical''.
