Abstract:This article concerns the Lp Minkowski problem for q-capacity. We consider the case p >= 1 and 1 < q < nin the smooth category by a kind of curvature flow, which converges smoothly to the solution of a Monge-Amp & eacute;re type equation. We show the existence of smooth solution to the problem for p >= n. We also provide a proof for the weak solution to the problem when p >= 1, which has been obtained by Zou and Xiong.

Abstract:In his influential work Choquet systematically studied capacities on Boolean algebras in a topological space, and gave a probabilistic interpretation for completely monotone (and completely alternating) capacities. Beyond complete monotonicity we can view a capacity as a marginal condition for probability distribution over the distributive lattice of dual order ideals. In this paper we discuss a combinatorial approach when capacities are defined over a finite lattice, and investigate Fréchet bounds given the marginal condition, probabilistic interpretation of difference operators, and stochastic inequalities with completely monotone capacities.

Abstract:In this letter, we revisit the non-restricted half-duplex Gaussian amplify-and-forward two-way relay channel (AF-TWRC). The inner and outer bounds of its capacity region are derived by evaluating Shannon's inner and outer bounds for general two-way channels. We prove that, in contrast to the case of Gaussian two-way channel (GTWC) where the two bounds coincide thus establishing its capacity region, the two bounds of AF-TWRC do not coincide unless both terminals are noise-free, due to that the intermediate relay node introduces additional power constraint relating to the correlation of channel inputs from both terminals. This indicates that the capacity region of non-restricted Gaussian AF-TWRC, which was previously believed to be already established in a way similar to that of GTWC, still remains open. We further investigate a special case of non-restricted AF-TWRC where the relay is noise-free, and obtain its capacity region based on the tighter dependence balance bound.

Abstract:We consider capacity (fuzzy measure, non-additive probability) on a compactum as a monotone cooperative normed game. Then it is natural to consider probability measures as elements of core of such game. We prove a topological version of the Bondareva-Shapley theorem that non-emptiness of the core is equivalent to balancedness of the capacity. We investigate categorical properties of balanced capacities and give characterizations of some fuzzy integrals of balanced capacities.

Abstract:We consider quantum channels with two senders and one receiver. For an arbitrary such channel, we give multi-letter characterizations of two different two-dimensional capacity regions. The first region is comprised of the rates at which it is possible for one sender to send classical information, while the other sends quantum information. The second region consists of the rates at which each sender can send quantum information. For each region, we give an example of a channel for which the corresponding region has a single-letter description. One of our examples relies on a new result proved here, perhaps of independent interest, stating that the coherent information over any degradable channel is concave in the input density operator. We conclude with connections to other work and a discussion on generalizations where each user simultaneously sends classical and quantum information.

Abstract:In this paper we further develop the ideas from Geometric Function Theory initially introduced in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.13206" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.13206">arXiv:2206.13206</a>], to derive capacity estimate in metastability for arbitrary configurations. The novelty of this paper is twofold. First, the graph theoretical connection enables us to exactly compute the pre-factor in the capacity. Second, we complete the method from [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.13206" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.13206">arXiv:2206.13206</a>] by providing an upper bound using Geometric Function Theory together with Thompson's principle, avoiding explicit constructions of test functions.

Abstract:In the paper, we first investigate some properties of capacity factors of a point-to-point network, then give a new upper bound for the maximal cardinality of capacity factors, which is better than the bound in [3]. Abstract:We consider different notions of capacity related to the parabolic $p$-Laplace equation. Our focus is on a variational notion, which is consistent in the full range $1<p<\infty$. For such a notion we show some basic properties as well as its connection to other notions of capacity presented in the literature, and to a certain parabolic version of the Hausdorff measure. As applications, we use the introduced variational notion of capacity to study polar sets and removability results for supersolutions.

Abstract:The problem of computing $\alpha$-capacity for $\alpha>1$ is equivalent to that of computing the correct decoding exponent. Various algorithms for computing them have been proposed, such as Arimoto and Jitsumatsu--Oohama algorithm. In this study, we propose a novel alternating optimization algorithm for computing the $\alpha$-capacity for $\alpha>1$ based on a variational characterization of the Augustin--Csisz{á}r mutual information. A comparison of the convergence performance of these algorithms is demonstrated through numerical examples.

Abstract:The Sibson and Arimoto capacity, which are based on the Sibson and Arimoto mutual information (MI) of order {\alpha}, respectively, are well-known generalizations of the channel capacity C. In this study, we derive novel alternating optimization algorithms for computing these capacities by providing new variational characterizations of the Sibson and Arimoto MI. Moreover, we prove that all iterative algorithms for computing these capacities are equivalent under appropriate conditions imposed on their initial distributions.

Abstract:The notion of the capacity of a polynomial was introduced by Gurvits around 2005, originally to give drastically simplified proofs of the Van der Waerden lower bound for permanents of doubly stochastic matrices and Schrijver's inequality for perfect matchings of regular bipartite graphs. Since this seminal work, the notion of capacity has been utilized to bound various combinatorial quantities and to give polynomial-time algorithms to approximate such quantities (e.g., the number of bases of a matroid). These types of results are often proven by giving bounds on how much a particular differential operator can change the capacity of a given polynomial. In this paper, we unify the theory surrounding such capacity preserving operators by giving tight capacity preservation bounds for all nondegenerate real stability preservers. We then use this theory to give a new proof of a recent result of Csikvári, which settled Friedland's lower matching conjecture.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to characterize the structure of the set $\Theta$ for a continuous ergodic upper probability $\mathbb{V}=\sup_{P\in\Theta}P$ (Theorem \ref {main result}): . $\Theta$ contains a finite number of ergodic probabilities; . Any invariant probability in $\Theta$ is a convex combination of those ergodic ones in $\Theta$; . Any probability in $\Theta$ coincides with an invariant one in $\Theta$ on the invariant $\sigma$-algebra. The last property has already been obtained in \textsl{Cerreia-Vioglio, Maccheroni, and Marinacci} \cite{ergodictheorem}, which firstly studied the ergodicity of such capacities. As an application of the characterization, we prove an ergodicity result (Theorem \ref {improve}), which improves the result in \cite{ergodictheorem} in the sense that the limit of the time mean of $\xi$ is bounded by the upper expectation $\sup_{P\in\Theta}E_P[\xi]$, instead of the Choquet integral. Generally, the former is strictly smaller.

Abstract:We develop a theory of capacities associated with local Muckenhoupt weights. Fundamental properties of local Muckenhoupt weights will be revisited. Weak type boundedness of nonlinear potential and capacitary strong type inequalities associated with such weights will be addressed. The boundedness of the local maximal function on the spaces of Choquet integrals associated with such weighted capacities will be justified as an application of the theory. We also address on the thinness of sets with the Kellogg property as another application.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate some properties on capacity factors, which were proposed to investigate the link failure problem from network coding. A capacity factor (CF) of a network is an edge set, deleting which will cause the maximum flow to decrease while deleting any proper subset will not. Generally, a k-CF is a minimal (not minimum) edge set which will cause the network maximum flow decrease by k. Under point to point acyclic scenario, we characterize all the edges which are contained in some CF, and propose an efficient algorithm to classify. And we show that all edges on some s-t path in an acyclic point-to-point acyclic network are contained in some 2-CF. We also study some other properties of CF of point to point network, and a simple relationship with CF in multicast network. On the other hand, some computational hardness results relating to capacity factors are obtained. We prove that deciding whether there is a capacity factor of a cyclic network with size not less a given number is NP-complete, and the time complexity of calculating the capacity rank is lowered bounded by solving the maximal flow. Besides that, we propose the analogous definition of CF on vertices and show it captures edge capacity factors as a special case.
