Abstract:We characterize the Wulff shape of an anisotropic norm in terms of solutions to overdetermined problems for the Finsler p-capacity of a convex set Ω ⊂ R N , with 1 < p < N . In particular we show that if the Finsler p-capacitary potential u associated to Ω has two homothetic level sets then Ω is Wulff shape. Moreover, we show that the concavity exponent of u is q = − ( p − 1 ) / ( N − p ) if and only if Ω is Wulff shape.

Abstract:We consider a partially overdetermined problem for the $p$-Laplace equation in a convex cone $\mathcal{C}$ intersected with the exterior of a smooth bounded domain $\overline{\Omega}$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$($n\geq2$). First, we establish the existence, regularity, and asymptotic behavior of a capacitary potential. Then, based on these properties of the potential, we use a $P$-function, the isoperimetric inequality, and the Heintze-Karcher type inequality in a convex cone to obtain a rigidity result under the assumption of orthogonal intersection.

Abstract:We study the semilinear equation $-\Delta_g u + V(\sigma) u = f(u)$ on a Cartan-Hadamard manifold ${\cal M}$ of dimension $N \geq 3$, and we prove the existence of a nontrivial solution under suitable assumptions on the potential function $V \in C({\cal M})$. In particular, the decay of $V$ at infinity is allowed, with some restrictions related to the geometry of ${\cal M}$. We generalize some results proved in $\mathbb{R}^N$ by Alves \emph{et al.}

Abstract:In this paper, we study the well-posedness theory and the scattering asymptotics for the energy-critical, Schrödinger equation with indefinite potential \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{l} i \partial_t u+\Delta u-V(x)u +|u|^{\frac{4}{N-2}}u=0,\ (x, t) \in \mathbb{R}^N \times \mathbb{R}, \\ \left.u\right|_{t=0}=u_0 \in H ^1(\mathbb{R}^N), \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $V(x):\mathbb{R}^N\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is indefinite and satisfies appropriate conditions. Using contraction mapping method and concentration compactness argument, we obtain the well-posedness theory in proper function spaces and scattering asymptotics. Moreover, we get a positive ground state solution which is radially symmetric by using variational methods. This paper extends the results of \cite{KCEMF2006}(Invent. Math) to the potential equation and develops the recent conclusions.

A note on spatially inhomogeneous Cahn-Hilliard energies

Abstract:In 2023, Cristoferi, Fonseca and Ganedi proved that Cahn-Hilliard type energies with spatially inhomogeneous potentials converge to the usual (isotropic and homogeneous) perimeter functional if the length-scale $\delta$ of spatial inhomogeneity in the double-well potential is small compared to the length-scale $\varepsilon$ of phase transitions. We give a simple new proof under a slightly stronger assumption on the regularity of $W$ with respect to the phase parameter. The simplicity of the proof allows us to easily find multiple generalizations in other directions, including stochastic potentials and potentials which may become zero outside the wells ('voids'). The theoretical results are complemented by numerical experiments. Our main message is that, across a wide variety of settings, nothing that looks sufficiently homogeneous at the transition length scale between phases, affects the limiting behavior in the slightest. The notable exception is the setting of potentials with spatially varying potential wells, where a stronger scale separation $\delta \ll \varepsilon^{3/2}$ is needed. Based on the analysis, we further provide a modified Modica-Mortola type energy which does not require such a scale separation. The theoretical analysis is complemented by numerical experiments.

Abstract:We present a quantitative estimate for the radially symmetric configuration concerning a Serrin-type overdetermined problem for the torsional rigidity in a bounded domain $\Omega $, when the equation is known on $\Omega \setminus \overline{\omega}$ only, for some open subset $\omega \Subset \Omega$. The problem has concrete motivations in optimal heating with malfunctioning, laminar flows and beams with small inhomogeneities.

Abstract:A celebrated theorem of Serrin asserts that one overdetermined condition on the boundary is enough to obtain radial symmetry in the so-called one-phase overdetermined torsion problem. It is also known that imposing just one overdetermined condition on the boundary is not enough to obtain radial symmetry in the corresponding multi-phase overdetermined problem. In this paper, we show that, in order to obtain radial symmetry in the two-phase overdetermined torsion problem, two overdetermined conditions are needed. Moreover, it is noteworthy that this pattern does not extend to multi-phase problems with three or more layers, for which we show the existence of non-radial configurations satisfying countably infinitely many overdetermined conditions on the outer boundary.

Abstract:We consider in the plane the problem of reconstructing a domain from the normal derivative of its Green's function with pole at a fixed point in the domain. By means of the theory of conformal mappings, we obtain existence, uniqueness, (non-spherical) symmetry results, and a formula relating the curvature of the boundary of the domain to the normal derivative of its Green's function.

Abstract:We consider the eigenvalue problem $\Delta^{\mathbb{S}^2} \xi + 2 \xi=0 $ in $ \Omega $ and $\xi = 0 $ along $ \partial \Omega $, being $\Omega$ the complement of a disjoint and finite union of smooth and bounded simply connected regions in the two-sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$. Imposing that $|\nabla \xi|$ is locally constant along $\partial \Omega$ and that $\xi$ has infinitely many maximum points, we are able to classify positive solutions as the rotationally symmetric ones. As a consequence, we obtain a characterization of the critical catenoid as the only embedded free boundary minimal annulus in the unit ball whose support function has infinitely many critical points.

Abstract:In this note, we study the singular mean field equation defined on a Riemann surface with a sign-changing potential function. We prove if some singular sources happen to be placed on the zero-level curve of the potential function, a priori estimate can still be obtained. As a consequence of this estimate, existence and multiplicity results can still be obtained based on the topology of the manifold.

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove a rigidity result for a Serrin-type partially overdetermined problem in the half-space, which gives a characterization of capillary spherical caps by the overdetermined problem. Abstract:We prove the Riemannian version of a classical Euclidean result: every level set of the capacitary potential of a starshaped ring is starshaped. In the Riemannian setting, we restrict ourselves to starshaped rings in a warped product of an open interval and the unit sphere. Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the Neumann problem for a class of quasilinear stationary Kirchhoff-type potential systems, which involves general variable exponents elliptic operators with critical growth and real positive parameter.
