Abstract:The Baire algebra of a topological space $X$ is the quotient of the algebra of all subsets of $X$ modulo the meager sets. We show that this Boolean algebra can be endowed with a natural closure operator, resulting in a closure algebra which we denote ${\bf Baire}(X)$. We identify the modal logic of such algebras to be the well-known system $\sf S5$, and prove soundness and strong completeness for the cases where $X$ is crowded and either completely metrizable and continuum-sized or locally compact Hausdorff. We also show that every extension of $\sf S5$ is the modal logic of a subalgebra of ${\bf Baire}(X)$, and that soundness and strong completeness also holds in the language with the universal modality.

Abstract:In this paper, closure operators obtained from functions having some properties on bounded lattices are defined. By this way, it is aimed to generalize the notions T and U -closure operators obtained from t-norms and uninorms, respectively. The relationships between the closure operators obtained from functions and their conjugacies (dual functions) are determined. In special cases, the closure operators from implications making closure operators from R-, (S,N)-, QL- implications are determined. Also, the closures of the sets according to the closure operators from implications are studied. The orders obtained from closure operators are introduced, and the properties are discussed.

Abstract:We show that a Baire function on a metric space can be described in terms of its restrictions on specific subsets. Furthermore, it is proved that for a real-valued function on a subset of R , among all points of discontinuity, the non-isolated non-monotone points are crucial to determining whether the function is a Baire function or not.

Abstract:We prove that if $G$ is a totally bounded abelian group \st\ its dual group $\widehat{G}_p$ equipped with the finite-open topology is a Baire group, then every compact subset of $G$ must be finite. This solves an open question by Chasco, Domínguez and Tkachenko. {Among other consequences, we obtain an example of a group that is $g$-dense in its completion but is not $g$-barrelled. This solves a question proposed by Au${\beta}$enhofer and Dikranjan.}

Abstract:We sketch recent interactions between model theory and a roughly 150-year old study of analytic functions involving complex analysis, algebraic topology, and number theory, centered in canonicity of universal covers. Towards this goal we discuss in a systematic and unified way several examples indicating the main ideas of the proofs and the necessary changes in method for different situations: exponential covers, modular and Shimura curves, Shimura and abelian varieties, and coherent families of smooth covers.

Computing the $D$-base and $D$-relation in finite closure systems

Abstract:Implicational bases (IBs) are a common representation of finite closure systems and lattices, along with meet-irreducible elements. They appear in a wide variety of fields ranging from logic and databases to Knowledge Space Theory. Different IBs can represent the same closure system. Therefore, several IBs have been studied, such as the canonical and canonical direct bases. In this paper, we investigate the $D$-base, a refinement of the canonical direct base. It is connected with the $D$-relation, an essential tool in the study of free lattices. The $D$-base demonstrates desirable algorithmic properties, and together with the $D$-relation, it conveys essential properties of the underlying closure system. Hence, computing the $D$-base and the $D$-relation of a closure system from another representation is crucial to enjoy its benefits. However, complexity results for this task are lacking. In this paper, we give algorithms and hardness results for the computation of the $D$-base and $D$-relation. Specifically, we establish the $NP$-completeness of finding the $D$-relation from an arbitrary IB; we give an output-quasi-polynomial time algorithm to compute the $D$-base from meet-irreducible elements; and we obtain a polynomial-delay algorithm computing the $D$-base from an arbitrary IB. These results complete the picture regarding the complexity of identifying the $D$-base and $D$-relation of a closure system.

Abstract:The topological interpretation of modal logics provides descriptive languages and proof systems for reasoning about points of topological spaces. Recent work has been devoted to model checking of spatial logics on discrete spatial structures, such as finite graphs and digital images, with applications in various case studies including medical image analysis. These recent developments required a generalisation step, from topological spaces to closure spaces. In this work we initiate the study of bisimilarity and minimisation algorithms that are consistent with the closure spaces semantics. For this purpose we employ coalgebraic models. We present a coalgebraic definition of bisimilarity for quasi-discrete models, which is adequate with respect to a spatial logic with reachability operators, complemented by a free and open-source minimisation tool for finite models. We also discuss the non-quasi-discrete case, by providing a generalisation of the well-known set-theoretical notion of topo-bisimilarity, and a categorical definition, in the same spirit as the coalgebraic rendition of neighbourhood frames, but employing the covariant power set functor, instead of the contravariant one. We prove its adequacy with respect to infinitary modal logic.

Abstract:For a Hausdorff space $X$, a free involution $\tau:X\to X$ and a Hausdorff space $Y$, we discover a connection between the sectional category of the double covers $q:X\to X/\tau$ and $q^Y:F(Y,2)\to D(Y,2)$ from the ordered configuration space $F(Y,2)$ to its unordered quotient $D(Y,2)=F(Y,2)/\Sigma_2$, and the Borsuk-Ulam property (BUP) for the triple $\left((X,\tau);Y\right)$. Explicitly, we demonstrate that the triple $\left((X,\tau);Y\right)$ satisfies the BUP if the sectional category of $q$ is bigger than the sectional category of $q^Y$. This property connects a standard problem in Borsuk-Ulam theory to current research trends in sectional category. As an application of our results, we show that the index of $(X,\tau)$ coincides with the sectional category of the quotient map $q:X\to X/\tau$ minus 1 for any paracompact space $X$. In addition, we present some new results relating Borsuk-Ulam theory and sectional category.

On the category of (i,j)-Baire Bilocales

Abstract:We define and characterize the notion of (i,j)-Baireness for bilocales. We also give internal properties of (i,j)-Baire bilocales which are not translated from properties of (i,j)-Baireness in bispaces. It turns out (i,j)-Baire bilocales are conservative in bilocales, in the sense that a bitopological space is almost (i,j)-Baire if and only if the bilocale it induces is (i,j)-Baire. Furthermore, in the class of Noetherian bilocales, (i,j)-Baireness of a bilocale coincides with (i,j)-Baireness of its ideal bilocale. We also consider relative versions of (i,j)-Baire where we show that a bilocale is (i,j)-Baire only if the subbilocale induced by the Booleanization is (i,j)-Baire. We use the characterization of (i,j)-Baire bilocales to introduce and characterize (\tau_{i},\tau_{j})-Baireness in the category of topobilocales.

Abstract:A topological space $X$ is Baire if the Baire Category Theorem holds for $X$, i.e., the intersection of any sequence of open dense subsets of $X$ is dense in $X$. One of the interesting problems for the space $B_1(X)$ of all Baire-one real-valued functions is characterization topological space $X$ for which the function space $B_1(X)$ is Baire. In this paper, we solve this problem, namely, we have obtained a characterization when a function space $B_1(X)$ has the Baire property for any Tychonoff space $X$. Also we proved that $B_1(X)$ is Baire for any $\gamma$-space $X$. This answers a question posed recently by T. Banakh and S. Gabriyelyan. We also conclude that, it is consistent there are no uncountable separable metrizable space $X$ such that $B_1(X)$ is countable dense homogeneous.

Abstract:The connection between similarity logic and the theory of closure operators is examined. Indeed one proves that the consequence relation defined in [14] can be obtained by composing two closure operators and that the resulting operator is still a closure operator. Also, we extend any similarity into a similarity which is compatible with the logical equivalence, and we prove that this gives the same consequence relation.

Abstract:The transitive closure of a reflexive, symmetric, analytic relation is an analytic equivalence relation. Does some smaller class contain the transitive closure of every reflexive, symmetric, closed relation? An essentially negative answer is provided here. Every analytic equivalence relation on an arbitrary Polish space is Borel embeddable in the transitive closure of the union of two smooth Borel equivalence relations on that space. In the case of the Baire space, the two smooth relations are closed and the embedding is homeomorphic.

Abstract:There are several ways to convert a closure or interior operation to a different operation that has particular desirable properties. In this paper, we axiomatize 3 ways to do so, drawing on disparate examples from the literature, including tight closure, basically full closure, and various versions of integral closure. In doing so, we explore several such desirable properties, including *hereditary*, *residual*, and *cofunctorial*, and see how they interact with other properties such as the *finitistic* property.

Abstract:The presented paper is a compendium or a kind of précis of relationships between the four classical theorems of mathematical analysis. More precisely, the first aim of this paper is to present the equivalence of the four classical theorems: the Hahn–Banach theorem, the Mazur–Orlicz theorem, the Markov–Kakutani fixed-point theorem and the von Neumann theorem on amenability of Abelian groups. The second purpose is to prove these equivalences in Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory with the axiom of choice replaced by the Boolean prime ideal theorem, from which we can also prove the Hahn–Banach theorem.

Abstract:We study the complexity of closure operators, with applications to machine learning and decision theory. In machine learning, closure operators emerge naturally in data classification and clustering. In decision theory, they can model equivalence of choice menus, and therefore situations with a preference for flexibility. Our contribution is to formulate a notion of complexity of closure operators, which translate into the complexity of a classifier in ML, or of a utility function in decision theory.
