Abstract:We establish the existence and multiplicity of weak solutions of a problem involving a uniformly convex elliptic operator in divergence form. We find one nontrivial solution by the mountain pass lemma, when the nonlinearity has a (p - 1)-superlinear growth at infinity, and two nontrivial solutions by minimization and mountain pass when the nonlinear term has a (p - 1)-sublinear growth at infinity.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Dirichlet problem for a scalar elliptic equation in a bounded Lipschitz domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb R^3$ with a singular drift of the form $b_0= b-\alpha \frac {x'}{|x'|^2}$ where $x'=(x_1,x_2,0)$, $\alpha \in \mathbb R$ is a parameter and $b$ is a divergence free vector field having essentially the same regularity as the potential part of the drift. Such drifts naturally arise in the theory of axially symmetric solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. For $\alpha <0$ the divergence of such drifts is positive which potentially can ruin the uniqueness of solutions. Nevertheless, for $\alpha<0$ we prove existence and Hölder continuity of a unique weak solution which vanishes on the axis $\Gamma:=\{ ~x\in \mathbb R^3:~|x'|=0~\}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a singular diffusion problem and show, by constructing a counterexample, that the weak solution to the problem is not unique. The proof consists of several steps. First, we prove that there exists a maximal weak solution to the problem. We show that the support of the continuous maximal weak solution cannot decrease in time. Then we cite an example of a nonnegative continuous function with shrinking support that also solves the problem, and therefore the problem possesses at least two weak solutions for some continuous nonnegative initial data.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for a class of fractional superdiffusion equations with initial-boundary conditions. For a multidimensional fractional drift superdiffusion equation, we just consider the simplest case with divergence-free drift velocity $u \in L^{2}(\Omega)$ only depending on the spatial variable x. Finally, exploiting the Schauder fixed point theorem combined with the Arzelà-Ascoli compactness theorem, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions in the standard Banach space $C([0,T]; H_{0}^{1}(\Omega))$ for a class of fractional superdiffusion equations.

Abstract:In this article we study the existence, uniqueness, and integrability of solutions to the Dirichlet problem $-\hbox{div}( M(x) \nabla u ) = -\hbox{div} (E(x) u) + f$ in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $N \ge 3$. We are particularly interested in singular $E$ with $\hbox{div} E \ge 0$. We start by recalling known existence results when $|E| \in L^N$ that do not rely on the sign of $\hbox{div} E $. Then, under the assumption that $\hbox{div} E \ge 0$ distributionally, we extend the existence theory to $|E| \in L^2$. For the uniqueness, we prove a comparison principle in this setting. Lastly, we discuss the particular cases of $E$ singular at one point as $Ax /|x|^2$, or towards the boundary as $\hbox{div} E \sim \hbox{dist}(x, \partial \Omega)^{-2-\alpha}$. In these cases the singularity of $E$ leads to $u$ vanishing to a certain order. In particular, this shows that the Hopf-Oleinik lemma, i.e. $\partial u / \partial n < 0$, fails in the presence of such singular drift terms $E$. Abstract:We study the uniqueness of weak solution in Lloc∞([0,+∞);L2(R1)) for initial value problem of Chern–Simons–Dirac equations. We first derive the equations for the difference between two weak solutions and establish the existence of the solution to initial value problem to its adjoint system. Then we apply Holmgren's method to prove that the weak solution in Lloc∞([0,+∞);L2(R1)) to initial value problem of Chern–Simons–Dirac equations is unique.

Abstract:We prove an existence and uniqueness result for Neumann boundary problem of a parabolic partial differential equation (PDE for short) with a singular nonlinear divergence term which can only be understood in a weak sense. A probabilistic approach is applied by studying the backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs for short) corresponding to the PDEs, the solution of which turns out to be a limit of a sequence of BSDEs constructed by penalization method.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Volume 56, Issue 1, Page 234-253, February 2024. In this paper, we are interested in the following degenerate elliptic Monge–Ampère equation:[math] Under suitable structure conditions on [math], we can show that [math] and the solutions of linearized equation have the same symmetric property as the domain. Moreover, we also achieve some uniqueness results for homogenous nonlinearity [math] ([math]) in general convex domain. Compared to the results in [G. Huang, Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations, 58 (2019), 73], we dispose the "uniformly convex" condition imposed on the domain. With a subtle approximation procedure and variant form of Hopf's lemma, we overcome the technical difficulties caused by the degeneracy of the above equation. What's more, we can also get the uniqueness property for domains whose geometry is close enough to the symmetric convex domain.
