Abstract:This research collects data by the method of questionnaire urvey,measures the level of the social satisfaction and its eight factors of librarians in China.The article also analyzes the relationship between the objective quality of life and the social satisfaction of librarians,combining with the data of the objective quality of life.Based on one-way ANOVA,effects imposed on each factor of social satisfaction are found more or less from a total value of objective quality of life and its eight factors.

Abstract:The modern social sciences,especially sociology,in their initial stage,were under the great influence of positivism.What John Stuart Mill expounded in the sixth volume of his book System of Logic about the method for studying moral and social sciences laid a solid basis which has helped establish many recent methodologies for the study of social sciences.The paper concludes that Mill's application of positivistic methods to the study of social sciences still has its practical significance.

Abstract:Positivism is a very important meta-theoretical position IR studies, and centered in the discipline in the past half century. The core characteristics of positivist propositions are the objectivity of social research, the consistency of social science and natural science, and empirical testability. In the camp of positivists, there are many different tools, perspectives and approaches. All of these different ways toward science have their advantages, and also trade offs and limitations. It also means that these inner-positivist methods are compatible in the scientific research. In the last few yeas a number of attacks on positivism have constituted a post-positivist camp. Although these positions have their own values in IR research, it's hard for these perspectives to dialogue with positivism because of mutually exclusive assumptions. They will be coexistent in confrontation in the future.

Abstract:Purpose - The statistical method plays an extremely important role in quantitative research studies in library and information science (LIS). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the status of statistical methods used in the field, their application areas and the temporal change patterns during a recent 15-year period. Design/methodology/approach - The research papers in six major scholarly journals from 1999 to 2013 in LIS were examined. Factors including statistical methods, application areas and time period were analyzed using quantitative research methods including content analysis and temporal analysis methods. Findings - The research studies using statistical methods in LIS have increased steadily. Statistical methods were more frequently used to solve problems in the information retrieval area than in other areas, and inferential statistical methods were used more often than predictive statistical methods and other statistical methods. Anomaly analysis on statistical method uses was conducted and four types of anomaly were specified. Originality/value - The findings of this study can help educators, graduates and researchers in the field of LIS better understand the patterns and trends of the applications of statistical methods in this field, depict an overall picture of quantitative research studies in LIS from the perspective of statistical methods and discover the change patterns of statistical method applications in LIS between 1999 and 2013.

Abstract:This paper aims to explore the philosophical theoretical foundations of two basic research paradigms, namely positivism and interpretivism. In the discussion process, literature in the relevant fields including academic papers and books is reviewed and used as support for the analysis. Firstly, the paper explores the differences between the positivist and interpretivist paradigms in terms of ontology and epistemology. The paper then goes on to critically analyze the shortcomings of interpretivism, including nihilism, susceptibility to bias, and neglect of ideological influences. Finally, this paper adopts the credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability theories to support the interpretivist perspective on research methods, i.e., qualitative research methods, from the educational field. This research will help researchers to better understand the differences between positivist and interpretivist paradigms and to choose the applicable research methods according to the research field.

Abstract:Although the systematic review method has, in the past, been applied infrequently in library and information science (LIS) research, its use appears to be increasing. However, the relatively low quantity and poor quality of systematic reviews demonstrate the need for further research in this area. A critical appraisal framework is presented that can be used to guide the conduct and reporting of systematic reviews, at the same time increasing researchers and practitioners' awareness of the importance of such reviews in LIS research. Methods and tools used by scholars who have applied this method are reviewed, and criteria that are essential to achieving high quality systematic review are discussed in depth.

Abstract:The standardization work is demonstrably important for popularizing libraries,helping their improvement in professional skills,extending and deepening their mutual exchanges and cooperation.For the grass-roots libraries,which have the largest number and the minimum scales,and closest facing the broadest masses of people,the needs of standardization are more urgent.In order to scientifically plan the grass-roots libraries' network layout,promote their scientific management and modern operation,and improve their service efficiency,there have been lots of researches and practices in grass-roots libraries' standardization.However,the standardization of our grass-roots libraries is still limited and need to be further promoted based on the inheritance of international experiences of library standardization work,and according to the construction realities of our public culture service system.

Abstract:Purpose The main purpose of this paper is to measure the status and quality of library and information science (LIS) open-access (OA) journals in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). Design/methodology/approach The study selected 86 source journals of LIS in the SSCI as a sample and measured their status of open access. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to analyze 36 OA journals of 86 source journals, especially their production capability, academic influence and network communication ability. Findings The results indicate that OA journals have become an increasingly important part of LIS journals. Production capability, academic influence and network communication ability are important factors affecting the quality of OA journals. These three evaluation indicators of LIS OA journals are high, but many still have room for improvement. Research limitations/implications As the paper is limited by collecting data, the indicators of OA journals’ quality are not all-around. So, they cannot reflect the quality of LIS OA journals. In the selection of the evaluation method, the evaluation results are limited because only one AHP method is used. Practical implications The research on evaluation of OA journals can help library and scientific research personnel use OA journals effectively. Identifying key factors on evaluation can help researchers to construct OA journals better. Social implications The research on OA journals’ quality can also promote the study on OA process in academic circles and promote the communication, development and utilization of academic information. Such research can also enrich the theory of OA, and provide some new perspectives for the study of journals’ evaluation. Originality/value This paper measures the quality of LIS OA journals by analyzing production capability, academic influence and network communication ability. Rather than the traditional research methods, the focus of this study is on the value of the Web as a source of impact indices. It contributes to the scholarly impact measurements of OA journals.

Abstract:【Purpose/significance】This study aims to explore the application situation and collaboration strategy of Mixed Methods Research in LIS, deepen the understanding of the applicable scenarios of MMR, and promote the rationalization and effectiveness of strategy use in research design.【Method/process】An analysis of mixed methods articles published in four representative LIS research journals from 2012 to 2021, revealed the application context and strategies for collaboration of mixed method.【Result/conclusion】There are three situations mixed methods in library and information science research: bridging the technical limitations of single method, ensuring the integrity and continuity of research and strengthening the support of research conclusions. Besides, this study also illustrates six strategies for qualitative and quantitative collaboration: supplementary explanation; construction guidance; test and promotion;quantitative extension; joint guarantee and parallel coordination. Finally, we prospect the trend of MMR.【Innovation/limitation】The research conclusions are helpful for researchers to better understand how to design and apply mixed methods research, improve the quality of LIS research, and enhance the scientificity and rigor of mixed method research. We only choose 4 journals as example, but we will broaden the scope of our study in the future.
