Abstract:The translation and research of Chinese foreign literature have a rich and distinguished history that spans over a century, yielding numerous and substantial achievements. These research outcomes for thoroughly synthesized and scientific analyses can provide authoritative and accurate guidance for foreign literature translation and research, highlighting the significance of the China Foreign Literature Studies Index (CFLSI) database. This article focuses on three issues encountered in database development. 1) An examination of the limitations of existing public network resources based on the unique nature of the foreign literature discipline, thereby establishing the necessity for the creation of a discipline-specific database; 2) An exploration of the composition, functional design, and implementation approaches of the CFLSI database in response to the requirements of foreign literature researchers; 3) The establishment of the database framework and development technology of the system aligned with the data composition and functional design. The creation of the CFLSI database represents an exploration and application to merge digital technology with a comprehensive understanding of the foreign literature discipline.

Abstract:To promote the further work in information literacy assessment in China,the paper studied the articles on the assessment of information literacy from the CNKI from 2000 to 2009.First the paper analyzed the data from published year,publication and the main topics in these articles.Then the paper analyzed the current research work from the aims and scopes of the assessment,assessment indexes,data sources and some special assessment projects.At last the future trends and work suggestions were proposed.

Abstract:A sample of articles from 10 foreign and 3 Chinese core journals in library and information science during 2001-2010 was selected through systematic sampling method.The articles were analyzed and compared in terms of research methodologies using informetric method.The results showed that qualitative methods were overwhelmingly dominant in Chinese articles while quantitative methods were much more used in foreign articles.Some suggestions were proposed for the development of library and information science research in China.

Abstract:Based on the bibliometrics methods,this paper analyzed 2482 papers included in WoS database in the field of LIS(Library and Information Science) in China,from many aspects as amount,authors,areas,organizations,source journals and subjects.The results show that the amount of the papers is on the upward trend and now it is in a stage of rapid development.Relevant foreign researchers such as Ronald Rousseau have established friendly cooperative relationship with Chinese scholars,but the quantity and the scope of cooperation of LIS sector in China has yet to be further enhanced,either in foreign or domestic areas.Knowledge management,information retrieval,scientometrics,digital libraries,university libraries,e-commerce and e-government have become the focus theme of LIS in China.

Abstract:This paper makes a bibliometric analysis of the research papers on branch libraries of universities in China in the past twenty years.Through the analysis of the publishing time,the main contents of the essays,the author of this article draws the outline of the present situation of the researches on the branch libraries,points out that Chinese scholars have laid emphasis merely on theories and qualitative researches,that the library should strengthen the investigation of the statistical analysis and empirical researches,and establish an effective mechanisms for evaluation and assessment,and that all the researches should be comprehensive and penetrative to explore the effective rules and regulations of the operation.

Abstract:The present paper uses algorithms such as the keyword ordered clustering, keyword co-occurrence clustering and literature co-citation analysis to make a bibliometric study of the literature on the digital library in the latest 12 years obtained by searching the Web of Science. It finds that the research on the digital library has gone through three stages of development and elaborates on the characteristics of these stages. Such a bibliometric overview will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the features and trends of the research in this field.

Abstract:This study examines the research productivity, publication quality, and collaboration patterns of researchers from the top-ranked library and information science (LIS) schools in China and the United States using Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus data. In particular, this study investigates the monetary reward policies of the Chinese LIS schools that might influence their researchers’ publishing activities. The results show that most of the top-ranked LIS schools in China offer monetary rewards to their faculty to publish in journals indexed in WoS as first authors. In addition, the findings indicate that the number of WoS papers by researchers working in Chinese LIS schools has increased rapidly and the ratio of this number to that of such papers by their US counterparts has been rising over the past decade. However, we observe no such rising trend in papers that are indexed only in Scopus. Although the Chinese LIS schools have a higher average annual growth rate of WoS publications than US LIS schools, they still lag considerably behind their US counterparts in publication quality, as measured by citations. We also find that Chinese LIS researchers are less likely to be supporting authors on their international collaborative publications than their US counterparts.

Abstract:Using methods of bibliometrics and the software of RefViz,the history and trends of research, features of high-quality publica-tions and research topics were explored based on the 172 publications of 8 doctorate-granting LIS schools and departments collected from the database of Web of Science (SCI-E, SSCI, A&HCI) from aspects of year distribution of publications, source journals, subjects, fun-ding agencies, titles and abstracts. Results showed that the international scientific research of the 8 doctorate-granting LIS schools and de-partments was still at the initial stage, and the research topics of these publications mainly focused on the development of LIS in China.

Abstract:Purpose - The statistical method plays an extremely important role in quantitative research studies in library and information science (LIS). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the status of statistical methods used in the field, their application areas and the temporal change patterns during a recent 15-year period. Design/methodology/approach - The research papers in six major scholarly journals from 1999 to 2013 in LIS were examined. Factors including statistical methods, application areas and time period were analyzed using quantitative research methods including content analysis and temporal analysis methods. Findings - The research studies using statistical methods in LIS have increased steadily. Statistical methods were more frequently used to solve problems in the information retrieval area than in other areas, and inferential statistical methods were used more often than predictive statistical methods and other statistical methods. Anomaly analysis on statistical method uses was conducted and four types of anomaly were specified. Originality/value - The findings of this study can help educators, graduates and researchers in the field of LIS better understand the patterns and trends of the applications of statistical methods in this field, depict an overall picture of quantitative research studies in LIS from the perspective of statistical methods and discover the change patterns of statistical method applications in LIS between 1999 and 2013.
