Abstract:The measurement error of capacitor voltage transformers (CVTs) has poor stability under the complex environment of substations. Conventionally, error detection is performed by regularly comparing the output of standard transformers, which lacks real-time performance. Moreover, CVTs are prone to operating in an out-of-tolerance state. Thus, this study first analyzes the basic principle of the CVT measurement error self-detection method based on principal component analysis under the constraints of three-phase symmetrical operating characteristics of a power system. Then, the impact of the signal conversion error of analog-to-digital conversion equipment on the self-detection results of CVT measurement errors in engineering applications is analyzed, and a multi-layer wavelet analysis signal denoising method is proposed to enhance the self-detection ability of CVT measurement errors. Finally, simulations show that the proposed method can identify an error change of 0.1%, meeting the self-detection requirements for the measurement error at 0.2 class.

Abstract:Capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) is the most widely used type of voltage transformer in Shandong power grid. With the continuous expansion of power grid scale, higher requirements are put forward for the insulation performance and operation stability of CVT. At present, the dielectric loss tandelta is generally recognized as an important characteristic parameter to characterize the overall insulation status of CVT, but this traditional detection and evaluation method can not effectively evaluate the insulation status of CVT. To solve this problem, a CVT insulation state evaluation method based on active power loss is proposed in this paper, and the effectiveness of this method is verified by two examples. And this method can be used as a powerful complement to the conventional insulation detection parameter tandelta.

Abstract:Diagnose transformer using vibration method is a new trend which can monitor without shut apparatus down,but this method is still unsatisfied.The vibration signals from the transformer tank are complicated,and it is important to find a model which can reflect the vibration correctly.Aiming at how to simplify the vibration model,a transformer tank vibration model under short-circuit condition was presented.The model was based on how signal generates and how signal transmits.The model was obtained using data set sampled in single phase short-circuit tests.With the fully trained model,the estimated vibration signal at one point was calculated by employing the input current only.In order to validate the model,three phase short-circuit tests were taken.The results show a good agreement between estimated signals and measured signals,the results indicate that it is feasible to use a simplified windings and transmission model.

Abstract:In this paper, a correction method is introduced to make a more accurate calculation of winding eddy-current losses of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter transformer. The assumption that winding eddy-current losses of HVDC converter transformers follow the frequency with the exponent 2 proposed by IEC 61378-2 Std. is thought to be inappropriate and the skin effect should be taken into consideration. The frequency characteristic of winding eddy-current losses is proposed by analysing the distribution of magnetic flux in conductors, in which skin effect is taken into consideration. The correction method with a correction factor is then introduced to correct the assumption. To verify the validity of the correction method, a two-dimension axisymmetric finite element analysis of a HVDC converter transformer is conducted. The geometrical complexity of windings and electrical connection are fully taken into account, it is shown that the correction method shows a significant advantage. Influence of different methods is revealed by applying the actual non-sinusoidal load current and it is shown that the error of correction method is the least. At last, harmonic losses measurements are conducted on three coils to investigate the limits of the correction method.

Abstract:Stray losses in structural parts are calculated separately during determining load losses of HVDC converter transformers, but the calculation method proposed by IEC 61378-2 standard shows significant difference from the experimental results. The nonlinearity, hysteresis losses, and frequency characteristic are thought as the sources of errors in this paper, and then an electromagnetic-circuit coupling FEM analysis is performed to investigate them. It is shown that the frequency characteristic of the stray losses is the major factor that causes the errors, and the material characteristic should be considered. The magnetic and nonmagnetic materials are suggested to be calculated separately.

Abstract:With the widespread application of capacitor voltage transformers (CV'Fs) in relaying, power system control and metering, detecting their measurement error drift has become an important and urgent task. Conventional methods are time-consuming and require the power to be cut, while some novel data-driven methods are impractical given their rigorous preconditions. In this paper, an innovative approach is proposed to detect the measurement error drift of CVTs connected to the same phase. Through principal component analysis, both the ratio error drift and the phase displacement drift of the CVT can be detected on-line. Besides the theoretical analysis, a monitoring system equipped with the proposed approach is installed in a 220kV thermal power plant. The field application indicates it is not only sensitive to the measurement error drift but also good at locating faults.
Application and Error Analysis of the Quadrature Methods in the Voltage Transformer

Abstract:The distribution of the electrical field between the two electrodes under 1 kV DC voltage was simulated with the Ansoft software,and then the voltage value was deduced by the quadrature formula with limited electrical field sensors.To compare the inherent error of different quadrature methods on the voltage measurement,three kinds of the typical quadrature methods were conducted:Gauss,Simpson,and Gauss—Legrendre quadrature.It was revealed that more accurate value could be achieved with the Gaussian quadrature.The relative error of the Gaussian method with three samples was below 0.2% in the condition without outer interference.The additional error caused by outer interference and the misplacement of the electrical field sensors was also given with the further calculation.When the interference was kept away from the quadrature route,the influence could be reduced.From the simulations and the calculations,it was concluded that the Gaussian quadrature could meet the same accuracy with fewer sensors,so it could be more efficient on the high voltage measurement.

Abstract:As voltage measuring devices are widely used in the high voltage power system with a primary‐secondary‐fusion structure, electronic voltage transformers are directly connected to the primary conductor and would face much more serious electromagnetic environments than general secondary equipment. As a result, they would still experience failures even when general protection measures are adopted to suppress overvoltages' amplitudes. To address this issue, an innovative method is proposed after analyses are conducted on the resonance between a transformer and an overvoltage. Within this method, an air‐cored coil is installed in a transformer to artificially shift its natural frequency and to dodge the high‐frequency dominant component of a transient overvoltage, avoiding the aforementioned resonance and suppressing the secondary overvoltage. In addition, simulations and laboratory tests are conducted to prove this method's validity.

Simulations on Transient Characteristics of 500 Kv Capacitor Voltage Transformer

Abstract:When faults occur, because the CVT contains some components like capacitors and inductors, the output can not track the input signal's changes and the transient process may last for tens of milliseconds resulting in rapid protection action delay, or even malfunction. Consequently, we established a simulation model in Matlab/Simulink with the actual parameters of the 500 kV capacitor voltage transformer (CVT), and analyzed the transient characteristics in detail based on this model. The simulation analysis shows that the moments of the faults and the circuit parameters can affect CVT's transient process. The simulation results have significant practical value for the design of CVT products and production performance optimization.

Abstract:Capacitive voltage transformer is an important protection and metering equipment in power system, its reliable and stable operation has an important impact on the safety of power grid, therefore, the research and fault analysis of capacitive voltage transformer is of great significance to ensure the safety of power grid. In this article, an investigation and research on a burning accident of 66kV capacitive voltage transformer electromagnetic unit is carried out, through on-site inspection, principle analysis, electrical test and disassembly inspection, the occurrence process of the accident is deduced, and the specific causes of the accident are obtained. Finally, according to the causes of the accident, targeted preventive measures are given to avoid the recurrence of such accidents, which provides an important reference for the construction technology and fault analysis of the same type of capacitive voltage transformer.

Abstract:The insulation performance of equipment in the power system is very important,and overvoltage is one of the main threats that cause insulation damage of the equipment. The use of current transformers can effectively monitor the overvoltage in the power system. In this paper,a kind of high-frequency equivalent circuit modeling method of current transformers for overvoltage sensors based on last-screen current detection is proposed to solve the problem that low-frequency current modeling methods has no way to accurately simulate the intermediate and high-frequency（MHz）components of overvoltage. The method can,on the premise not changing the primary wiring mode of power equipment,achieve accurate modeling of various overvoltage sensors including power frequency overvoltage,operating overvoltage and lightning overvoltage. Firstly,the electromagnetic resonance characteristics of the current transformer at high frequency are analyzed and,on this basis,the RLC high-frequency equivalent circuit containing multiple resonance frequencies is set up. Then,through simulation examples and experimental tests,the accuracy of the proposed model is verified. The proposed equivalent circuit can be used to calculate the magnitude of the overvoltage according to the last screen current of the current transformer,thus effectively assessing the insulation risk and assuring safe operation of the power grid.

Abstract:Uncalibrated capacitive voltage transformers (CVTs) may significantly degrade measurement accuracy, because of the undetected excessive measurement error (ME). In this article, an online detection method is proposed which combines multi-source heterogeneous data composed of CVT measurements, acceptance test errors, and error limits. By measuring the same voltage with multiple CVTs, the monitoring statistics are generated and the statistic thresholds for the excessive ME detection are set according to the acceptance test errors and the error limits. To further ensure accuracy, the monitoring statistics and acceptance test errors for the CVTs surpassing the thresholds are used to estimate the ME. This estimation is then compared with the error limits as a cross-check to the detection result. Simulation shows that the difference between the ME estimated from the proposed method, and the actual ME is less than 0.01 % and the faulty CVT recognition accuracy exceeds 99%.

Abstract:With the increasing voltage levels of power transformers, it is necessary to accurately calculate internal eddy current losses. The oil immersed power transformer SSZ11-180000kVA/220kV is modeled, and its internal electromagnetic fields and the eddy current losses of structure components are calculated by using the finite dement analysis method. The calculated results are compared with the tested results, and the errors between them are within 5%, which validates the accuracy of the calculation. In order to avoid the local overheating problem of internal components of power transformers and ensure the safe operation of power transformers, the magnetic bypasses are proposed to fix near the upper and lower clamping plates to reduce the eddy current losses of transformers in this paper. The numerical calculation results show that the total eddy current losses of the transformer's components can be reduced by 53%. And the suitable structure parameters and the relative position parameters are discussed.

Abstract:With the increase in capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) operation life, CVT impedance changes, and the short-time switching of overhead lines, it is very easy to cause a transient oscillation accident in which a CVT participates, reduce the insulation level of a CVT, and even induce regional power grid oscillation and easily cause capacitor breakdown, after long-term operation with defects. In this paper, the whole power network, including the generator, power grid, and consumer, is modeled, and the theoretical model of the CVT ferro-resonance connected grid is built. The frequency spectrum analysis, and the measurements of resonance bus voltage and line voltage, were carried out to find the design method of a fast saturation damper (FSD) and its voltage–current characteristics that affect the vibration, based on theory and practice; this paper puts forward effective measures to reduce the resonance effect of a CVT in operation, and avoid the oscillation of the line and even the regional power grid system.
