Abstract:This paper studies the definition of diagnosability and the computation method of diagnosability based on information entropy,analyzes the influence of the transformer fault diagnostic precision to transformer fault diagnosability.The result indicates that under the identical diagnostic model,the diagnostic precision needs high,the transformer fault diagnosability is low.And then the paper discusses the approach of improving the transformer fault diagnosability.

Abstract:Based on extension theory and conventional DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis) three-ratio method, this paper proposes an extension theory based power transformer fault diagnosing method. Extension theory tries to solve contradictions and incompatibility problems, its theoretical pillars are matter element theory and extension set theory. This paper first briefly introduces the basic concept of matter element theory, establishes the matter element models for three-ratio method, after briefly discusses extension set theory, detailed analysis is carried out on the extended relation function (ERF) adopted in this paper for transformer fault diagnosis. The detailed diagnosing steps are offered. Simulation proves that the proposed method can overcome the drawbacks of the conventional three-ratio method, such as no matching and failure to diagnose multi-fault. It enhances diagnosing accuracy.

Abstract:Condition diagnose mode is one of the key steps in carrying out electric equipments condition maintenance. Based on the concept and theory of immunity in bioscience and simulation of the eliminating function of immune antibody system to antigen, this paper analyses the relationship between matrix singular value decomposition with the formal model of antigen-antibody combination. Then authors put forward the fault diagnosis of electric equipments using minimum energy antigen-antibody combination. Typical fault diagnosis of dissolved gas in the oil of transformers has proved the effectiveness and feasibility of this method, the method has a promising applicable future in fault diagnosis application. © 2005 IEEE.

Abstract:There exists a complicated mapping relationship between the types of transformer faults and the compositions and concentrations of dissolved gases in transformer oil. A methodology based on multi-objective optimization and case-based reasoning (CBR) is proposed to diagnose transformer faults by analyzing the dissolved gas analysis data. Considering the characteristics of the features used in the transformer diagnosis model, the targeted improvements are made in the preprocessing phase of the features to protect the diversities of samples. The quality of the feature subset is quantified by the internal cross-validation based on the CBR, and the feature subset is optimized by NSGA-II, considering both the classification performance and the size of the feature subset. The effect of the algorithm parameters on the performance is investigated, and the results validate the robustness of the proposed methodology. The proposed methodology is applied to diagnose cases from the IEC TC 10 database, achieving a 100% fault type recognition accuracy and a 92.6% severity evaluation accuracy.

Abstract:The line loss rate of power supply enterprises is an important economic and technical index, which directly reflects the lean level of marketing professional management of power supply enterprises. At present, the confusion of transformer-user archives in transformer area is still widespread, which is a key issue in line loss management in power supply enterprises. As the downlink communication channel, low-voltage power line carrier can realize cross-station reading, which brings great difficulties to the identification of transformer-user relation. Because the data of calculating the line loss rate of the transformer area depends on the electrical information acquisition system, the running state of the electrical information acquisition equipment is also one of the important factors affecting the line loss rate of the transformer area. This paper will focus on the fault diagnosis technology of electrical information acquisition equipment, and use it to carry out the identification of transformer-user transformers.

Abstract:As the information source of relay protection and automation devices, the operation performance of electronic transformer will directly affect the grid. Influenced by environment and electromagnetic radiation, the stability of its output signal becomes the bottleneck of popularization and application for intelligent substation. By means of classifying the fault types of electronic transformer in operation, the different fault types with the piecewise function are simulated and fault signal with wavelet theory analysis is denoised. Then, by means of fault detection and location of the denoised signal with wavelet decomposition, a method of wavelet-neural network for fault diagnosis analysis is deduced which can directly distinguish the drift deviation fault, fixed deviation fault and transformation ratio deviation fault. It will be a prospective significance for improving the operation reliability of the intelligent substation.

Abstract:Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) data are generally used to diagnose a transformer fault. However, the measurement errors in DGA data are inevitable and will affect the accuracy and reliability of the diagnosis results. Nevertheless, so far, only a few efforts have been devoted to addressing this issue. To provide an accurate and stable transformer fault diagnosis system, a feature selection and ensemble learning based methodology is proposed. Firstly, an Overlapping Information Feature Selection (OIFS) method is proposed to select efficient features from the given feature set for classifiers. Secondly, an Intelligent Voting Ensemble Learning (IVEL) method is proposed to generate a diagnosis model based on the feature combination from the OIFS method. The reported test results show that the OIFS method outperforms existing methods in 9 out of 10 tested classifiers. Additionally, the IVEL outperforms three popular ensemble learning methods, including random forest (RF), gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), and LightGBM, in terms of both accuracy and robustness performances. Finally, the proposed methodology (OIFS-IVEL) is applied to diagnose the transformer faults in the IEC TC 10 database, achieving a 100% accuracy in recognizing fault types and a 92.6 % accuracy in evaluating fault severity.

Abstract:A methodology, combining the principal components analysis (PCA) and the artificial neural network (ANN), to diagnose transformer faults based on dissolved gas analysis (DGA) data is proposed. The main features extracted from DGA data by the PCA are used as the input of the ANN to train and test the classifier. The proposed methodology is tested with practical transformer fault data. The test results show that a higher diagnosis accuracy can be achieved by using the main features extracted by the PCA as compared to that by the original features or the optimal feature combinations obtained by feature selection methods.

Abstract:In power grid, operating and maintaining engineers have recorded plenty of operation data and fault or defect texts of distribution transformers, which contain asset health information. However, less information is effectively exploited in devices condition assessment. Aiming at improving the decision-making for condition based maintenance, a practical condition assessment method based on multi-source information fusion for distribution transformers is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an assessment index system based on real time and statistical operation data of transformers is introduced. Secondly, through HMM-based text preprocessing and the machine learning of relativity, the text mining technique realized the key information extraction from transformer's fault and defect elimination record texts for condition assessment. Finally, after synthesizing the subjective initial index weight, equipment's aging and the “Short Board Effect”, the optimized condition assessment model based on multi-source information fusion for distribution transformer is established. An operating transformer example reveals that this model is effective and accurate, comparing with the other available models. It shows that with this method, the transformer's accurate health status and evolution trend could be reflected much more timely and rigorously.

Abstract:In the aspect of transformer fault diagnosis, the relationship between transformer fault and dissolved gas in oil has been particularly described in this paper. Considering the objective fact that transformer fault data is far less than normal data, the balanced processing method of unbalanced data sets in the classification process has been discussed. Considering these factors, all kinds of fault state data similar to the normal state data were selected as sample data, and ensemble learning was used to fault diagnose the transformer. The experimental results show that the method used in this research has an accuracy of 94.5% in fault diagnosis, which is significantly higher than other fault diagnosis methods, verifying the correctness and feasibility of this method.

Abstract:Based on the synthetic analysis of the cause and serious degree of transformer faults, a decision tree method is presented, its identification order is from up to down, and each leaf of the decision tree represents a kind of fault model. The classification machine of different branches of decision tree is composed of different artificial neural network (ANN), thus a system model of combinatorial ANN is constructed, and the multi-resolution identification for transformer faults is achieved. The shortage of the complex configuration and the slow convergence of single ANN is overcome with this method, and the diagnosis accuracy is improved simultaneously. The application results show that this method is valuable for transformer faults diagnosis.

Abstract:Based on fuzzy rough set theory (FRS), the paper is meant to present a new diagnosis system with gas ratios method for transformer incipient fault diagnosis, which not only has the capability of coping with incomplete information inputting and rules reduction just as in conventional rough set theory (RS), but also has the capability of fuzzification of thresholds of continuous values of attributes. Since strict thresholds setting is said to undergo the diagnosis effectiveness, A method of fuzzy subsets extraction from database based on KDD technology is employed to the setting attributes, which improve the power of prevailing IEC/IEEE criteria in fields of strict thresholds setting. Finally, results of testing the proposed diagnosis system on actual dissolved gas records are addressed, which confirmed that rules represented by fuzzy terms and extracted based on FRS allow diagnosis results to be satisfied, and diagnosis system proposed can provide a satisfactory accuracy.

Abstract:An artificial neural network (ANN) based methodology to diagnose transformer faults is proposed. The synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) is used to solve the imbalance in the dataset. The SMOTE is improved by introducing a full cycle of creating synthetic samples from minority class samples for the goals that the over-sampled ratio can be automatically determined and the sample size of each category can be completely consistent. The contents of dissolved gases in transformer oils are treated as the original features. The optimal features combination for ANN is determined by comparing the performances of the ANN when different feature combinations are used. The performances of different activation functions used in the ANN are investigated to give the optimal one. The tested results show the high accuracy (97.92%) of the proposed methodology if the optimum feature combination and activation function are used.

Abstract:The new power system puts forward higher requirements for the reliability of power equipment. Mining the intrinsic information of equipment operation from massive data is the key challenge to determining fault early warning. The transformer fault diagnosis through vibration signal analysis has gained increasing prominence. However, the vibration signals produced by power transformers exhibit complex nonlinear and multivariate fluctuations due to the interaction of electromagnetic and mechanical factors. Unfortunately, the traditional fault diagnosis models lack the capability to capture extensive global fault information, resulting in inadequate performance in fault identification. This paper proposes the enhanced hierarchical multivariate multiscale fuzzy entropy (EHM v MFE) as an effective method for quantifying defect information in multivariate transformer signals to overcome the challenge. Firstly, the enhanced hierarchical decomposition method and time series coarse-graining theory are introduced into multivariate fuzzy entropy to develop EHM v MFE, which can comprehensively reflect the feature information of multivariate signals from the full range of frequencies. Then, EHM v MFE is utilized to extract the features via multivariate vibration signals of the transformer. Finally, the extreme learning machine is conducted to achieve effective identification of abnormal conditions. The proposed method is applied to two categories of transformer fault cases, and the diagnostic indicators are at least higher than 99.70 % and 91.82 %, which indicates a strong advantage in comparison with other popular models. The approach could be flexibly extended to the fault diagnosis of other power equipment, which is a potentially effective tool for improving the reliability of power systems.

Abstract:Dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is one of the most useful methods to detect transformer incipient faults. Among the diverse conventional DGA methods, IEC three-ratio method is widely used, but in many cases this method can not accurately diagnose(such as no matching, multiple faults). This paper proposes a fuzzy three-ratio method; it is considered that the drawbacks of the conventional three-ratio method lie in: when the ratio crosses the coding boundary, codes change sharply, but in reality the boundary should be fuzzied. Based on this assumption, this paper first propose the fuzzy membership functions for codes "zero", "one", "two", then it transfer the conventional logic "AND" and "OR" used in IEC three-ratio method into fuzzy logic and put forward the diagnosing steps of this method. Simulation proves the proposed method can overcome the drawbacks of the conventional three-ratio method that can not diagnose multi-fault and no matching codes for diagnosis, thus, it greatly enhanced diagnosing accuracy

Abstract:Aiming to improve fault diagnosis performance of power transformer, a novel approach based on dissolved gas analysis and information fusion technology is presented in this paper. The diagnosis results obtained by grey relation analysis, fuzzy logic, and back propagation neuron network are employed as basic probability assignments of D-S theory. Then, compatibility ratio is used to solve the possible conflicts among different sub-evidences. Finally, fault diagnosis result is obtained thorough decision-making criterial. The experimental result suggest that the proposed approach has better performance than that of conventional methods, and fault diagnosis accuracy up to 93.18%.

Abstract:A transformer is one of the most important units in power networks and its fault diagnosis is quite significant. Rough set theory is a relatively new soft computing tool to deal with vagueness and uncertainty. It has received much attention of the researchers around the world. Rough set theory has been successfully applied to many areas including pattern recognition, machine learning, decision support, process control and predictive modeling. Due to incompleteness and complexity of fault diagnosis for power transformer, a specific fault diagnostic model based on rough set theory is presented in this paper. After the statistical analysis of the collected fault examples of oil-immersed power transformer and the use of rough set theory to reduce result, diagnosis rules are acquired and they could be used to improve the condition assessment of power transformer. The fault diagnose inference model was built based on the advantage of effectively simple decision rules and easy reality of rough sets. It simplifies the diagnose rules with no affecting the effect of diagnose. The significant advantage of the new method is that it can discriminate the indispensable alarm signals from dispensable ones that would not affect the correctness of the diagnosis results even if they are missing or erroneous.

Abstract:A mechanical vibration fault diagnosis is a key means of ensuring the safe and stable operation of transformers. To achieve an accurate diagnosis of transformer vibration faults, this paper proposes a novel fault diagnosis method based on time-shift multiscale increment entropy (TSMIE) combined with CatBoost. Firstly, inspired by the concept of a time shift, TSMIE was proposed. TSMIE effectively solves the problem of the information loss caused by the coarse-graining process of traditional multiscale entropy. Secondly, the TSMIE of transformer vibration signals under different operating conditions was extracted as fault features. Finally, the features were sent into the CatBoost model for pattern recognition. Compared with different models, the simulation and experimental results showed that the proposed model had a higher diagnostic accuracy and stability, and this provides a new tool for transformer vibration fault diagnoses.

Abstract:In order to diagnose transformer fault efficiently and accurately, a dynamic integrated fault diagnosis method based on Bayesian network is proposed in this paper. First, an integrated fault diagnosis model is established based on the causal relationship among abnormal working conditions, failure modes, and failure symptoms of transformers, aimed at obtaining the most possible failure mode. And then considering the evidence input into the diagnosis model is gradually acquired and the fault diagnosis process in reality is multistep, a dynamic fault diagnosis mechanism is proposed based on the integrated fault diagnosis model. Different from the existing one-step diagnosis mechanism, it includes a multistep evidence-selection process, which gives the most effective diagnostic test to be performed in next step. Therefore, it can reduce unnecessary diagnostic tests and improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosis. Finally, the dynamic integrated fault diagnosis method is applied to actual cases, and the validity of this method is verified.
Partial Discharge Fault Diagnosis in Power Transformers Based on SGMD Approximate Entropy and Optimized BILSTM

Abstract:Partial discharge (PD) fault diagnosis is of great importance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of power transformers. To address the issues of low accuracy in traditional PD fault diagnostic methods, this paper proposes a novel method for the power transformer PD fault diagnosis. It incorporates the approximate entropy (ApEn) of symplectic geometry mode decomposition (SGMD) into the optimized bidirectional long short-term memory (BILSTM) neural network. This method extracts dominant PD features employing SGMD and ApEn. Meanwhile, it improves the diagnostic accuracy with the optimized BILSTM by introducing the golden jackal optimization (GJO). Simulation studies evaluate the performance of FFT, EMD, VMD, and SGMD. The results show that SGMD-ApEn outperforms other methods in extracting dominant PD features. Experimental results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method by comparing different traditional methods. The proposed method improves PD fault recognition accuracy and provides a diagnostic rate of 98.6%, with lower noise sensitivity.
