Abstract:After an investigation and analysis, the authors clarify students’ awareness and understanding of general education and their needs for general education. The authors hope that this clarification can help university libraries improve their service capability in general education by providing the exact services needed by students. The paper makes an intensive analysis of the existing problems and various difficulties confronted by university libraries in general education and then puts forward some measures and means to improve this education in the libraries.

Abstract:With the changes in the form of literature and the way of its transmission ,the educational function of library ,as well as the mode ,is undergoing profound and comprehensive transformations . This paper traces the evolution of the educational mode of college libraries in China and argues that the libraries are now in a process of turning from a place w here people cultivate themselves through read‐ing to a tool for guiding literature research and promoting creative education .It can be expected that the library will play an increasingly important role in higher education in China .

Abstract:The library in the institutions of higher learning is the special stack room to collect literature of its own.It is of great significance to show the result of running school,to keep up complete data and to form a characteristic collection.By taking University of Zhejiang Science and Technology(ZUST)as an example,we analyze the existing problems in the library construction of the newly-built institutions of higher learning and define the scope of the library collection.Thus several methods are advanced to strengthen both its direction and initiative to turn the data base resources into the school's special collection resources as well as to grasp the timing node to collect library materials.

With the rapid development of Chinese higher education, the central government educational funds input has entered into the "4%" era, libraries of colleges and universities of China have already had the resources, talents and basic conditions to participate in the construction of public cultural service system. The participation way mainly include: active participation in the resources sharing mechanism guided by the government; provide digital resources sharing service by using information technology; use of local characteristic literature and academic and professional resources to support economic and social development; develop community public culture service activities in various forms.

Abstract:110 years' development of Peking University Library is divided into three periods: start-up and tortuous development in Late Qing and the Republic of China period,expanded and progressive development period from the founding of the People's Republic of China to pre-reforming and opening up,and sustainable development period to catch up with the world advanced universities library after the reform and opening up.Characteristics and achievements of each period are summarized.Finally,the future of academic libraries is redefined and prospected from eight aspects.

Abstract:At the beginning of this article, the author briefly reviewed the development of the branch library system in Peking University, making a full introduction on the strategy, characteristics and development patterns, and laying special attention on the "sixteen word" policy which guided the practice. The author introduced the characteristics and achievements of the branch libraries at PKU in different periods, providing a great deal of examples to show the support given by branch libraries to teaching and research activities on two aspects-resource development and reader services. Finally, the author explored the future development of the branch library system and gave several significant suggestions.

Abstract:With the continuous improvement of China's social and economic level, education, especially college education, has been highly valued by people and has achieved certain results. For the development of colleges and universities, library construction is an important part of it and to a certain extent promotes the stable development of colleges and universities. Judging from the actual development of domestic university libraries, many university libraries have gradually entered the path of socialized service. Due to the profound influence of traditional education mode and test-oriented education concept, many university libraries in China are currently developing socialization. There are some problems that need to be solved in the service work process. The existence of these problems makes many domestic university libraries unable to play their own roles and individual values, and it also seriously affects the rapid development of China's college education. Based on this situation, the author makes an in-depth analysis and discussion on the status quo and optimization strategies of the socialization service of university libraries in China, hoping to provide reference for the social service work of college libraries nationwide.

Abstract:Library and information science education in China is in a period of transition. The changes in the social, economic and technological environment have introduced new requirements for the professional personnel. The growth of the information industry and the expansion of the labor market have motivated schools of library and information science to adjust their objectives, curriculum and knowledge structure in order to meet social needs. This article discusses the changing social environment in the 1990s and the challenges to professional education, and responses from schools. Based on the curriculum of 17 schools of library and information science in China provided at the Second Joint Annual Meeting of Deans held in 1995, the author provides data on required courses, specialized elective courses and non-specialized courses according to the frequency of each course appearing in the curriculum. The objectives are to determine the state-of-the-art structure of the knowledge base and to identify any consensus among teaching institutions. The difficulties and problems in educational reform are discussed and some trends in professional education in China are predicted.

Abstract:Based on a brief review of the history of China's librarianship after the year of 1949,and an analysis of the inadequacy in the social position and the institutional construction of libraries,this paper points out that the independent and closed-up social structure deprives libraries of the driving force of their development.Therefore,an institutional system must be constructed for the development of China's librarianship by taking into account its national conditions and using western library system as a reference,a diversified library system devised and the development of its management,operation and evaluation promoted with proper policies.

Abstract:Based on the concept of global integration, it could provide reference for the public library strategic planning and the accessibility of public cultural services in China to study strategic tasks of national libraries in foreign countries. Strategic plans of 10 national libraries in foreign countries are studied by grounded theory. The qualitative text analysis of strategic tasks shows that the 10 countries generally focus on five aspects: resources construction, service construction, capacity construction, function construction and external environment.The layout of strategic tasks is clearly hierarchical, and the construction of task content is linked. Public libraries in China should take scientific deployment of strategic tasks as the starting point, promote the high-quality development of public libraries and the expansion of the accessibility of public cultural services by adhering to the systematic development of strategic planning task layout, highlighting the core and forward-looking construction of task content, and ensuring the professionalism and comprehensiveness of the implementation of strategic tasks.

Abstract:The analysis of present situation of university libraries in China shows that the literature resources and the readers are all diversified. The urge demand for the libraries includes fast and efficient services and group work. The university libraries are characterized as knowledge carriers, information servers and literature collectors. The libraries should be reformed to provide diversified resources, precise services and easy acquisition of literatures. The reform of university libraries should follow the way from library planning, resources construction to literature sharing. The construction of library houses, literature resources and librarian teams is analyzed. The reform will force the libraries to be specialized in providing literature services. The libraries will continue to function as a typical cultural area in university campus.
