Abstract:We have developed a Nd:YAP single crystal fiber laser with linearly polarised light output at 1.0795 μm. The laser is 100 μm in diameter and operated with a threshold of 6.65 m W. The slope efficiency is 12.9%.

Abstract:A pulsed laser for laser guide stars with a 100 MHz repetition rate and 1 ns pulse width was achieved by external modulation of a continuous wave (CW) laser with a 70 kHz spectrum width. The laser is amplified first by two fiber pre-amplifiers and then by four solid-state power amplifiers. The laser achieves gains as high as 36 dB in the fiber pre-amplifiers due to the long gain medium length. The output power from the fiber amplifiers is 2.1 W. The laser receives further amplification in the solid-state amplifiers and retains good beam quality by aberration compensation. The final output average power is 102.9 W, and the beam quality factor M-2 is 1.46. The laser reaches high power without spectrum width and pulse width broadening at the 100 MHz repetition rate. The spectrum width of the pulsed laser is less than 0.8 GHz, which is close to the Fourier transform limit. Such a laser with single-frequency, high-repetition, and high-power features along with good beam quality will be valuable for many research areas. (C) 2014 Optical Society of America

Abstract:In this work, we have reported the first Nd:YAG single crystal fiber lasers at 1.1 μm spectral region operating in continuous-wave and passively Q-switched modes. A maximum continuous-wave output power of 34.52 W is achieved and the corresponding slope efficiency with respect to pump power is 39.9 %. Using Cr 4+ :YAG as saturable absorber, a maximum average output power of 10.37 W is obtained during passively Q-switched laser operation. The maximum pulse peak power and single pulse energy reach approximately 103.7 kW and 1.1 mJ, respectively. In terms of diode end pumping geometry, these reported results represent the best achievements of 1.1-μm lasers, which indicate that crystal fiber has great potential in improving laser power and energy.

Abstract:A high efficiency high brightness continuous wave (cw) cryogenic a-cut Nd:YAlO 3 (Nd:YAP) laser is demonstrated with dual wavelengths at 1072 and 1079 nm. By exploring the temperature dependence of the fluorescence and the absorption spectra from the a-cut Nd:YAP crystal, the feasibility of multi-wavelength laser operation is analyzed. At an optimal temperature of ∼180 K, a maximum output power for dual-wavelength operation is reached 2.1 W at an incident pump power of 4.6 W, corresponding to a slope efficiency up to 50 %. The average beam quality factor is measured to be 1.17, indicating a brightness of ∼130 MW/cm 2 ·sr. These results present, to the best of authors knowledge, the highest brightness and slop efficiency for any multi-wavelength Nd:YAP laser. Such brightness multi-wavelength laser source with high beam quality has important applications in scientific research, laser radar and astronomy domains, especially in obtaining terahertz (THz) sources.

Abstract:The parameters of the laser were selected according to the analyzed results obtained through computation. In order to improve the heat radiation of the crystal, a copper semicylindrical spot lighter was used to contact with the crystal. A high efficiency laser-diode side-pumped Nd, YAG laser was demonstrated experimentally under 100 mJ pumping energy and the repetition rate of 50 Hz. The static output of 39.5 mJ was obtained with the optical conversion of 39.5%. The experimental results were analyzed for various laser parameters.

Abstract:Transition spectra in the 4F3/2-4I13/2 transition band of Nd:YVO4 crystal are too weak to form laser oscillation for the small stimulated emission cross section and strong parasitical oscillation, except for the 1342 nm wavelength. By adjusting the loss of the resonant cavity, 1386 nm continuous wave output from fiber coupled laser diode end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser is achieved, which reaches 305 mW with pump power of 4.24 W, and the slope efficiency is 13.9% with the highest output power. Continuous wave outputs of 1342 nm and 1386 nm are also observed in the experiment. The stimulated emission cross section of Nd:YVO4 crystal at the wavelength of 1386 nm is calculated as about (3 ± 1) × 10-19 cm2, according to the pumping threshold energy and experimental data.

Abstract:The continuous-wave and acousto-optical Q-switched pulse laser properties of diode-pumped Nd:YAG crystal operating at 946nm formed with a simple plane–plane cavity have been studied. Extra-cavity single-pass quasi-phase matching (QPM) frequency doubling with periodically poled LiTaO3 (PPLT) as the nonlinear crystal yielded a maximum output power of 66mW at 473nm with an overall optical to optical efficiency of 14.2% from 946 to 473nm. Our result proves that this scheme is of practical value for the construction of a blue all-solid-state laser.

Abstract:We demonstrated a linearly polarized continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser operating at a 1357-nm single-wavelength, by a 808-nm diode as an end-pump source. We chose a Brewster-angle-cut Nd:YAG laser host crystal, due to its two salient features as follow: linearly polarized laser output and single-wavelength oscillation can be easily obtained. In this paper, a continuous-wave all-solid-state single-wavelength laser operating at 1357 nm is demonstrated with a diode-end-pumped Brewster-cut Nd:YAG laser. The laser had a 1.03-W maximum output power under an incident pump power of 15.0 W, a 12.7% slope efficiency, a 6.9% optical-to-optical conversion efficiency, a 0.14-nm spectral linewidth and a 3% power-output stability within 30 min.

Abstract:We demonstrate an all-solid Nd 3+-doped silicate photonic crystal fiber with 13.1 W output power at 1061 nm and 64.5% slope efficiency. We also theoretically investigate and prove the effects of confinement loss and overlap fraction on a double-clad photonic crystal fiber laser. An innovative design is suggested to improve the laser beam quality.

Abstract:A diode-bar side-pumped YAG/Nd:YAG/YAG composite crystal laser is presented. A maximum output power of 18.4 W at 1.064 μm with a slop efficiency of 57% and an optical-optical conversion efficiency of 46% was obtained for a pump power of 40 W. Compared with a side-pumped conventional crystal laser in the same experimental conditions, the side-pumped composite crystal laser improved the optical-to-optical conversion efficiency by 12%. Experimental results indicate that a composite crystal can depress the thermal effects effectively and improve the optical-to-optical conversion efficiency easily in the diode side-pumped lasers. The composite crystal has great potential in high-power diode side-pumped lasers.

Abstract:Many deffercnt diode-pumped single-frequency solid-atate lasers have been demonstrated in recent years. The LD pumped tunable single frequency polarized laser is of greet importance for precision measurements. A LD pumped 1.06μm single frequency Nd:YAG micro-chip laser with 120GHz of tunable frequency range and 0.5 mW of output power has been reported. For some important applications the higher laser power and polarized laser beam are needed. We have reported the LD pumped CW and pulsed micro-chip Nd:YVO4 laser with high polarized output power. Here we report the LD pumped tunable single frequency Nd:YVO4 laser with higher output power and polarized beam.

Abstract:We reported a 26 W linearly polarized single-mode Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber amplifier, working at 80 kHz repetition rate with 4.5 ns duration, corresponding 72 kW peak power. Using a acousto-optic Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser as the seed source, the 26 W average power of 1064 nm laser was obtained at a repetition rate of 80 kHz from a Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber amplifier, with 4.5 ns duration, polarization extinction ratio 11 dB and M 2 < 1.2.

Abstract:We report efficient, diode-pumped, self-frequency doubling (SFD) in the newly developed laser crystal Nd3+:Na3La9O3(BO3)8 (Nd:NLBO). More than 730 mW of fundamental output power at 1072 nm was achieved with a slope efficiency of 16.2%. With incident pump power of 8 W, 29 mW of green cw laser emission at 536 nm was observed with proper phase matching. This initial performance and the good optical properties of the crystalline host are encouraging for the development of a high power diode-pumped SFD visible light laser source.

Abstract:In this paper, we report two crystals Tm:YLF laser pumped by a fiber coupled diode laser with total power of 180 W at 792 nm. When the incident power reached up to 117.0 and 37.3 W of the emission wave-length at 1.91 μm was achieved. Through linear fit, the corresponding slope efficiency of 38.5%, optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 31.9% and the beam quality factor of M 2 ∼ 1.1 were obtained, indicating nearly diffraction limited beam propagation. To our best knowledge, this is the best beam quality among the reported paper results under the similar experiments.

Abstract:A compact, passively Q-switched and mode-locked Nd:YAP laser in oscillator-amplifier configuration was designed and constructed. Operation wavelength switching (between 1.34 and 1.08 mum) was achieved with a three-mirror cavity and mechanical shutter. For Q switching and mode locking of the 1.34-mum Nd:YAP laser transition, a V3+-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) saturable absorber was employed. The optimal performance was found after variation of the resonator length (40 to 100 cm) and of the absorber initial transmission (52% to 89%). The duration of a single pulse in a train was around 1 ns. The saturation intensity of the V3+:YAG absorber was determined to be 10 MW/cm(2). A BDN II polymer thin-film saturable absorber was used for Q switching the 1.08-mum laser transition. After amplification, the maximum output energy reached was 27 mJ (train of mode-locked pulses at 1.34 mum) or 94 mJ (Q-switched pulse at 1.08 mum). The output laser radiation was delivered by means of a hollow glass waveguide coated with cyclic olefin polymer and Ag, with 95% and 80% efficiencies for 1.34 and 1.08 Am, respectively. Abstract:By use of a laser diode as a pump source, a self-Q-switched laser from a Cr,Nd:YAG crystal is demonstrated. The output Q–switched traces are very stable, the threshold pump power is 3.5 W, the pulse duration is 50 ns, and the slope efficiency is as high as 20%. In addition, the pulse width remains constant while the pulse repetition rate varies with pump power.

Abstract:We describe an efficient laser emission from a directly grown Er3+:YAG single-crystal fiber that is resonantly pumped using a continuous-wave (CW) laser diode at 1532 nm. In a longitudinal pumping, it emits 12.5 W at 1645 nm with a slope efficiency of 32%, which is the highest ever reported for a directly grown Er:YAG single-crystal fiber laser. Using an off-axis pumping scheme, CW output powers up to 7.3 W can be reached and in Q-switched operation, the laser produces 2 mJ pulses with a duration of 38 ns at the repetition rate of 1 kHz with an M^{2} factor below 1.8. To our knowledge this is the first directly grown Er3+:YAG single-crystal fiber Q-switched laser. In dual-side pumping scheme a laser emission at 1617 nm is achieved with output powers up to 5.7 W representing the highest output power ever achieved by a diode-pumped Er:YAG laser at this wavelength.

Abstract:Composite Cr4+:YAG --Nd3+:YAG crystal fiber was grown by means of LHPG method. By using a high quality Nd3+:YAG as the seed and a sintered powder rod as the source rod, Cr4+:YAG can be readily grown on a Nd3+:YAG end surface. The grown crystal fiber was processed and laser action was demonstrated. Preliminary results showed that the crystal fiber is well suited to a compact passively Q-switched laser operation. A Q-switched laser output showing a 9 ns pulse duration, a 19 mW average output and a 10 kHz repetition rate was demonstrated.
