Abstract:ABSTRACT The operation of efficient , CW , TEM00mode Nd : YAG laser end-pumped by a laser diode has been achieved.The maximum output was 0. 65w. A 51 %slope efficiency and 40. 6 % overall optical efficiency were obtained. Cou-pling optics and laser configuration are described in this paper.1. INTRODUCTIONIt has been well-known that diode-pumped solid-state lasers can present high conversion efficiency , good beam quality , stable operation and easy cooling. All the performances have been demonstrated by employing laser diode toend-pump gain medium. This pump method provides a significantly greater conversion efficiency for single tranversemode operation than that of side pump. It also results in a lower threshold and higher slope efficiency. Currently, the slope efficiency for TEM00 mode device is up to 40 % and the highest reached 60 % for multimode operation2.The work in reference 3 also approached a 60 % slope efficiency for single tranverse mode operation , where the highquality monolethic medium and nonplanar resonator were employed.
